Despite me being positive about #ND34, the newest entry for #NancyDrew videogame series, there is a merit in finding how we've got here in the first place and if #HerInteractive is a trustworthy studio.
Right of the gate, we see the drastic difference in how previous, #ND33 game performed after successful 32 inclusions... It's darn #MID, if you ask me. :thisIsFine: So, it was being developed after the big #layoff in Her, where most positions got bestowed on a new crew. Only that it was going hand-in-hand with new CEO's delusion of a #passion mobile project. Add here a camp of the #fanbase which insists on a regular ND release schedule, #hustle culture, and you have a case of rushed development, #crunch and leaving everyone with a subpar ND game. If anything, I guess old crew was spared nerve cells in expense of new blood being under equally subpar direction - lucky to be fired, unlucky to be hired? Oof.

@mxivi It makes no sense to be fatalistic about hosting open source repo somewhere outside the #GitHub. In fact, there are numbers of successful projects that reside on #Codeberg and people pick up quickly.
Anyone can sign up on Codeberg or fellow #Forgejo, #Gitea instances without fuss and silly animations (meant as a patronizing gesture, big no-no), while also disregarding the futile race for some "pretty" centralized activity chart. GitHub isn't the git forge we all deserved anyway: they just made it clearer recently by excluding non-GitHub git commits from the chart. And you still can make a portfolio that points to, surprise-surprise, profiles outside GitHub! Who might have thought that once making account on GH to contribute to your project of choice is no different from making just another on the side?

@itsfoss The thing is I'm not sure how to call those myself. By "buffered" part I mean that #SoundEffect is preloaded into memory, there is a good indication of when the sound starts and it can be replayed on top of itself. It *sounds* like a #soundboard, but all I really need is a #SFX player for arbitrary files, preferrably loaded in a batch.

Hello, @itsfoss! Any recommendation for buffered #SoundEffects player (not soundboard)?
All these "simple" audio players have a crippling delay at the start of every file operation and don't repeat the sound on demand, so I've had a struggle finding one player that would be nice to short #SFX.
Extra points if it can handle multiple files open (keep each #SoundEffect in memory for fast play).

Oooh, #GraphiteEditor has the node graph functionality, which allows you to compose vector objects from the primitives like fill, stroke, transform and live filters in a visual manner!
Node graph interface and filters both give me this nice break-out I needed after LPEs in #Inkscape. Don't get me wrong: that program is THE legend, developers are masters of vectors, and it's purely native Gtk toolkit on which application is built. Right now, their priority is CMYK support, so follow if you're into printing.
I just love to experiment with shiny new software that's #OpenSource, especially one that uses #RustLang and #web to its advantage.
Watch 'em apply circular repeat filter on a mere line to produce this fun sparkle effect. (It is Graphite's official channel, by the way. Wish they were on Mastodon?)

But there are still some things to be done. And if it's a message hidden by the developers that skipped #HerInteractive board, it might be truly interesting! At least, while we can't get more honest response than that. It needs to be decrypted! :blobcatdeficit:
#NancyDrew #MysteryOfTheSevenKeys has received mixed reviews: positive ones claim a big improvement over #MidnightInSalem, negative ones do state how bad everything is going after changes following #ND32 #SeaOfDarkness. So, #outsourcing happens and I don't know what new team even is like anymore. Lack of public playtesting isn't particularly helpful in catering the game to more audiences and without embarassing bugs. :0100:

Vivaldi experiencing, as they put it, "a performance drag" from considering a proper implementation is the probable result of trying to pluck so much stuff in the browser, so they choose a status quo of OBEDIENTLY following Google's version of the Manifest V3 spec. How come they don't take a page from Firefox that keeps both Manifest V2 and V3 that doesn't impede extensions' capabilities as much as Chromium?

Multiple scenes that inhabit the trailer of #ND34 were seemingly made with the game engine. But I overestimated the smoothiness of how camera will move in the game itself, @leroy - at least in the first cutscenes.
Maybe I'm so used to ease-in-and-out timing of things, that I'm weirded out by anything remotely static: same speed, same angle and straight line movement. It just feels robotic. Would be kinda cool to see streets of Prague with camera that uses natural acceleration and slight change in angle. What I mean is gently starting to move it, as it prepares the player, accelerate a bit and stop gently - both position and angle could benefit from this technique, I think.
No objections about letter opening, though. This one was well made!
