  8. @Baa that's a solid essay. I was very disappointed when I found out #Starbound was made by unpaid child labor. It did explain a lot though (like why development just stopped and why a lot of mechanics didn't really go anywhere.).

  9. Was listening to Boards of Canada today while coding, and had a sudden realisation that the Erchius Mining Facility music in Starbound is a *lot* like their track Reach for the Dead.

  15. This video essay is about the rise and fall of Starbound.

It's a 48 minute long, well researched presentation of a man standing next to a whiteboard wearing a firefox t-shirt and fingerless gloves, it's crudely edited, the audio quality is poor, the video quality is poor, and he doesn't have a proper green screen.
I love this video, it's everything the internet should be. Please watch it.
Also fuck Tye, Starbound could have been great, it had everything it needed to be good.

  16. I played #Starbound almost 10 years ago, and to this day, I still have its music stuck in my head. It's amazing how a good soundtrack can permanently embed the memory of playing a game into your brain.

  22. 🛰️ This Day in History – Sept 5, 1977
On this day, NASA launched Voyager 1.
It still sails, bearing our message to the stars.
Here’s a small poem I wrote for it:

    Voyage on, Voyager
    Voyage on, Voyager,
    so far from home.
Your path I do not begrudge—
    you’ve ventured far,
too far for me to follow.
For I would miss my hollow.

  35. CW: #MindOverMagic by #Klei playtest feedback. No spoilers.

I just love this game, and I clocked 24 hours or gameplay in 2 separate settings over 2 days😂 so clearly, I am loving it.

I have loong been waiting for a magic game. I've been following #WitchBrook from the screators of #Starbound, but that isn't going anywhere.

#MindOverMagic drops you into the same gameplay type and loop you could expect with #OxygenNotIncluded, but with less intense systems of physics and more magic Harry Potter style gameplay.

You are tasked with building a magic university. You have your trained mages and need to train students. They can graduate. Which gives you this market of training and sending students away or making them part of your university.

You then need to do dungeon battles to help progress your research tree, and it also has resource farming similar to #ONI.

Honestly, I love the game. I will finish it now, and then once the game is out, I'll buy it after a few updates.

  36. CW: long post with game suggestions

    @ashi

I would suggest #warframe but it could be a bit to hectic / reflex demanding. Also if you want to get into the end game (after like 80h+), you need to dive deeply into the wiki. Some tips: dont go into railjack but focus more onto the normal starchart.

Other suggestions that come to my mind:

    - #stardewvalley relaxing, but you'll propbably find it like #palia to be lacking in activities / a clear "goal" or "next step".

    - #minecraft ; pretty much the allrounder. Base is a bit lacking on activities, but if you're dont mind to dive into mods & modpacks you'll pretty much can get every combination of realaxing / demanding gameplay you want.

    - #terraria and or #starbound ; both incredibly packed games which a ton to discover and to do. terraria tho is a bit more of a wiki game than starbound. With mods you also can tweak quite a lot (atleast in terraria).

    - #factorio relaxing (espc if you play it on easy / no attacks from enemies), but you can sink literally thounds of ours. There is always something to be done. If you like the genre but not so the artstyle, maybe #Satisfactory is more youre style.

    - kingdom: classic / kingdom: new lands ; a uniqe strategy game thats challenging sometimes.

    - for shooters I quite enjoied #thedivision (not 2; havent really played that one). Either you do the story and have a lot to do, or you simply walk through the city, discover places and lore items / collectibles. Only after the story ends its pretty empty imo.

for more jump'n run based gameplay:
    - #iconoclasts a good story that's not too deep or complicated. more of a metroidvania style game.

    - #lunistice a little indie game thats made in the form of older sonic games

    the rpg side:
    - #catquest , a little cute game with a very simple story but you have always something to do imo. Sadly it's a bit short. Theres also #catquest2 with co-op but haven't tested that one.

Hope there's something in the list that might interests you. :3

I can talk more about the one I listed if you want some more infos and might have some more but dont wanna overwhelm you x3333
