  2. Everyone praising Manifest V3 as a security upgrade is missing the point. It's designed to cripple ad-blockers and hand more control to Google over what runs in your browser, eroding real user privacy. A move for their business, not for you. #chrome #ManifestV3 #privacy

    And yeah yeah, I use Brave & Mullvad and (fill the blank) on various platforms, but Google is segregated to its own browser for everything, everywhere. My pref.

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ladybird

    I think this will be interesting to you if you saw that firefox is adding AI features into firefox and threatened to remove manifest v2 in order to bring in more revenue (something that chrome removed which disabled a lot of ad blockers) [1]

    Librewolf also exists and I've heard from several people its a very good replacement for firefox but it still relies on mozilla existing to maintain the costly web engine

    edit: looks like the head dev of ladybird touts white replacement and had a tantrum about someone replacing the word "he" with gender neutral pronouns somewhere in the project [2]

    pick your poison maybe we should just simplify web standards to perhaps make them easy to maintain again, maybe we should revert to a much older version of html, maybe Gemini (the protocol not the large lying machine) is the answer [3] lets make website crafting fun again

  21. We talk a lot about "privacy based browsers," but we need more talk about Engine Diversity.

    Using a chromium-based browser even a de-Googled one like ungoogled chromium or Vivaldi still cements Google's control over web standards.

    If Firefox (gecko) dies, the web effectively becomes a proprietary app platform owned by an ad company.
    I stick with Firefox not because it's always faster (it isn't), but because it's the only vote I have left against a monoculture.

    Are you riding the gecko train for ideological reasons or has it actually become the better daily driver for you?

    And since I've apparently hit the news, I've prepared three canned responses for the most frequent objections. In particular, if you're OK with this change because “XML sucks”, YOU ARE #MissingThePoint

  33. How I adblock:
    ## Advertisements and Screen Readers

    Lots of the time, ads are just a garbled unlabeled mess, and they can lead to unfortunate accessibility issues.
    For example, on iOS, some articles have silent ad embeds (like videos) that make VoiceOver count down endlessly. Because of things like that, I adblock everywhere.

    I focused my uBlock Origin config on general screen reader issues such as ads, tracking, disabling YouTube Shorts, and making Twitch tabs use less CPU.

    I use this all the time and don’t run into issues myself, so that’s why I’m sharing it.
    If you want to support something later, I’ll include how to whitelist.

    Highly recommended:
    Use [NextDNS](nextdns.io/?from=773mk4ah) **and** uBlock Origin.
    This way, you can use any browser you want with the configuration.
    (Control D is an option, but it’s less accessible, so I’m not covering it here.)
    This post assumes you already know how to use uBlock Origin.

    ## The Best Web Browser?

    In my opinion as a power user, there is **no best web browser** and no best browser engine.
    Here’s what I use or recommend:

    * **Brave** (adblocking turned off)
    * **Firefox**
    * **Librewolf**
    * **Ungoogled Chromium**

    I’d stay away from other mainstream browsers, but if you must use them, use them.
    I’m just sharing my best practices from experience, not gospel.

    > **Note:**
    > You may have to use uBlock Origin Lite if you use Chrome soon, once Manifest V3 rolls out.
    > That’s why I avoid mainstream browsers entirely.

    ## Configuring NextDNS

    [Sign up for NextDNS](nextdns.io/?from=773mk4ah), then enable these subscriptions on the Privacy page:

    * NextDNS Ads & Trackers Blocklist
    * hBlock
    * anti-AD
    * HaGeZi – Multi PRO
    * OISD

    **Under Native Tracking Protection, enable:**

    * Windows (All versions)
    * Apple (iOS, macOS, tvOS)
    * Samsung (Phones, Tablets, Smart TVs)
    * Amazon Alexa (Alexa-enabled devices)

    For a detailed NextDNS guide, check:
    [github.com/yokoffing/NextDNS-C

    ## My uBlock Origin Config

    [Here is my uBlock Origin configuration (OneDrive link)](1drv.ms/t/c/37d17987e3514f7f/E).
    Right-click and save as to download the file.
    Then in uBlock Origin, open the dashboard and restore from the file you downloaded.

    I will try to update this whenever I can.

    If you’re using **uBlock Origin Lite**, open the extension settings and check the categories you want to block.
    There are no importable settings for Lite.

    ## Whitelisting

    You can whitelist in NextDNS by [going to this page](my.nextdns.io/525211/allowlist) and entering the domains or subdomains you want to allow.

    For uBlock Origin, open the dashboard, go to the Trusted Sites button, and enter your domains or subdomains to whitelist.

    At this point, you should have an ad-free experience across the web!
    If you have any suggestions for subscriptions, let me know in the comments.
