  1. #Adblocking is alive and well, despite #Chrome's attempts to make it harder
#Google Chrome's latest revision of its browser extension architecture, known as #ManifestV3 (MV3), was widely expected to make content blocking and #privacy extensions less effective than its predecessor, #ManifestV2 (MV2).
"Our results reveal no statistically significant reduction in ad-blocking or anti-tracking effectiveness for MV3 #adblockers compared to their MV2 counterparts"

  2. @choam if privacy is your concern then you should use @brave. It still supports #ManifestV2, but also comes with a built-in #AdBlocker, and third party cookie blocking. Furthermore it still supports #DoNotTrack which Firefox is phasing out, so technically it's *more* private, and also MUCH faster!

  3. #uBlockOrigin dead for many as #Google purges #ManifestV2 extensions
#Chrome #adblocker stopped working? Time to look elsewhere
#uBlock recommends a move to #Firefox and use of the extension uBlock Origin, a switch to a browser that will support Manifest v2, or downloading a different extension – #uBlockOriginLite, for example.

Do you still trust an #ad company to block ads or not datamine you?

  4. #Google #Chrome disables #uBlock Origin for some in #ManifestV3 rollout
For those unaware, Manifest V3 is Chrome's latest extension specification and is designed to limit extension access to user network requests, block developers from utilizing remote content, and improve overall performance.
If you're affected by Google's #ManifestV2 deprecation, you can switch to Manifest V3-supported extensions, such as the #uBlockOriginLite, which #uBlockOrigin developer has created.

  5. If you're not on a non-#chromium browser like #firefox, #librewolf, etc. yet, it's time to be. #Google is phasing in #ManifestV3 and phasing out #ManifestV2. This is the latest in their long line of #enshittification, and it's only going to get worse while #Chrome has such a massive market share.

  6. It's probably five years old news, but I noticed @wikimedia_sal
has that preview thing. I've had such a headache lately. is that #webmanifest #ManifestV2 or yet another alt #schema ?

  7. @trentskunk Welp, not surprised.

Vivaldi experiencing, as they put it, "a performance drag" from considering a proper implementation is the probable result of trying to pluck so much stuff in the browser, so they choose a status quo of OBEDIENTLY following Google's version of the Manifest V3 spec. How come they don't take a page from Firefox that keeps both Manifest V2 and V3 that doesn't impede extensions' capabilities as much as Chromium?
