Ooo!!! I got something for you!! Spacebar.chat is a fucking great open source re-implimintation of Discord that works really well already! I talked to the devs and they're opposed to AI as well so no issues there. I think I suggested it for Starlight's No-AI list, it just hasn't been added yet.
I've been trying so hard to get more people over there, it kicks ass.

A rapid #keyboard test revealed all keys work fine, except for #spacebar.
These are just #mechanicalswitches, so I could probably replace it with a modern #gatheron blue, but then I'd see if the key stem is compatible (it seems not). -

Now that I finally have some time over the next year, i'm replacing my wasdkeyboard with a custom built keyboard from the ground up. Came across this absolutely fascinating rundown on keyboards, but specifically the biggest key of them all, the SPACEBAR and how stabilizing it led a machinist down the rabbit hole, which I'm seemingly now looking out of.

How to localize #postmarketos on #pinephone ?
Especially the app to send SMS is not useable.
You need a contact first. OK, that's fine.
I enter a new one without countrycode, e. g. 071120062007 but in #spacebar it will show up as +1071120062007 or +49071120062007 depending on the locale setting. I live in Switzerland and sending a SMS with the wrong or the right country code does not work.
I am happy that #postmarketos uses the 4G VoLTE mode my provider requires but without the possibility to send SMS it is useless.
Has somebody solved this issue or are all #pinephone users in the US ? -

Spacebar chat with its mastodon / matrix like approach seems like another future strong alternative to Discord. However right now it’s main available app is very incomplete. And there appears to be few instances. I’m also unclear how instances can interact. For now I’m sticking with Revolt chat no matter how unstable it can be.

@yelly I hear a lot of people use #Matrix. There's also #Revolt, #Guilded, #Element, and probably more.
I found something called #Spacebar a while ago which is apparently compatible with Discord, so you can still talk to people who haven't switched to something else. But I haven't looked at it too much yet.

Fedi folks: what's the deal with the #Discord -like #Revolt ?
It seems to allow you to run your own locally-hosted servers so all of your data isn't being piped stright to the usual overlords. Is it all it's cracked up to be?
Our own hosted Mumble and Jitsi servers are pretty creaky these days and we'd be looking for something secure, locally-hosted, private and with native Linux as well as Windows client and server software. A Discord-lite without total violation of privacy.
What about #Spacebar ? I know nothing about that one other than having seen it mentioned in the Discord-replacement category.

@lori i guess there's #slack but thats more business oriented. you could go back to / try #TeamSpeak or #Mumble.
my problem is everyone else is on #discord so its just too convenient to move from. however i did just find something called #spacebar which is apparently compatible with discord. sounds interesting, ill have to do more research on it

@glassbottommeg I noticed that too. And it's convienient that alternatives like #Revolt or #Spacebar (previously #Fosscord) start popping up. Good old #TeamSpeak @teamspeak is also working on a new client. And then there is #Matrix @matrix.
None of these are a replacement (yet) but they all have potential.
