@voj What about #Fosscord (or #spacebarchat with its new name) ? I guess there is two different #foss project that trying to clone #discord UI. But #spacebarchat also trying to make their project compatible with official discord servers. Probably they just doing #reverseengineering

I am working on an #opensource client and API Wrapper for #spacebar (formerly #fosscord), which is an open source 1:1 re-implementation of Discord, and fully API compatible too! The client and API library are both written in #Rust, and the client will feature a beautiful, custom themed, performant GTK4 UI. No browsers or webviews to be found.

@glassbottommeg I noticed that too. And it's convienient that alternatives like #Revolt or #Spacebar (previously #Fosscord) start popping up. Good old #TeamSpeak @teamspeak is also working on a new client. And then there is #Matrix @matrix.

None of these are a replacement (yet) but they all have potential.

There's another one in the FOSS world too, IIRC, and on the deprecated, legacy silo side a lot of discordant discordians, of their own accord, and suffering from discordance (oh, i can be a punster sometimes), have migrated in large waves, en masse, as their **communities** (I refuse to call them servers) moved from discord to "Guilded"

#Guilded is a much more lax, permissive, and welcoming platform and they've made it very attractive fur s lot of so-called 'influencers' and big gaming, streaming, and cosplay communities to jump ship, so to speak.

Other than that, it's the same exact model, with a prettier face, and we all know that's fleeting. There will come a time when, like any other proprietary platform that gets too big for its breeches, Guilded will forget that it's the users that are important, instead of merely a bother.

Anyway, I haven't looked at #FOSScord at all in sbout six months. The project lead of Revolt was actually over there, reluctantly digging their devs out of some problematic issues they were having here and there.

They had a really ambitious roadmap (including some form of federating between instances), an unrealistic timeline to achieving that, and still aren't ready for primetime - I'm rooting for them however 💫

I'm not there much. But enjoy. I've got some mods that take care of bad actors, but without someone there promoting them, why fun m during goes quiet after a while. I'm probably going to get more active there once I get a couple off other priorities out of the way over there next couple of months.

Anyway, it offers some pretty decent looking examples of what you can do, and it's pretty much on par with discord.

There's a lengthy blog buried, but you can find it, where the creator exiplains why he has no plans to incorporate federation, and it's easily self-hosted. I like it a lot, butt there discord look and feel never really impressed me that much in discord, so if you like discord, this should be a shoe in fur you're open source project because it's got all the bells and whistles and even bots, dinner if which can bridge to other networks too, skyhigh I've let my bots fall into a state of disrepair to some degree lolz.

Give it a whirl! It really is nice 👍

I just Completely stopped using it. Killed the process on Android and disabled it from starting up on boot.

I started using #Revolt, and inviting people to my server there before just not visiting #Discord in my browser any longer.

It's part of the #deprecated, #monolithic #legacy_system of privacy disrespecting, #proprietary #data_mining #silos - like #Faceplant, #Twatter, and #InstaSPAM.

That why we came and built this new, DeSoc space called, "The Fediverse" , where decentralization, respect for #privacy (things like your medical records - sold by Meta everyday to anyone), that embraces #FOSS and freedom from being there subjugated chattel - someone's product, to be hung, butchered, packaged, inventoried, and placed on the shelf for sale.

If you actually have ANY real friends there Kat, then they'll make sure not to lose contact with you. Anything important has a Matrix room or Telegram group anyway it seems.

And those who found three look and feel of #Discard appealing have migrated to Guilded and even better, the FOSS based #RevoltChat. There's also #Fosscord, but last i checked it was still very much a work in progress.

Has anyone experience setting op Fosscord?

I got a test instance running here: http://167.235.26.77:3001/ But I can't figure out the "user rights" (https://docs.fosscord.com/api/rights/) but how does one assign rights?!

Default is "0" but no matter what I add, ( 1 - 32 ) it doesnt work 🤔

I think I'm not seeing it, what does the rights levels mean? You can only assign one int to a user right?
