Just heard Microsoft is making the Win11 taskbar movable.

It took them nigh FIVE YEARS and (I'm not exaggerating) I moved Win10>Linux a year ago as they had publicly "identified" the ask when the OS had been in beta, and hadn't implemented it by early 2025. This was the proof to me that the canary was dead.

Yeah, there were copilot and ads, but without using the OS I couldn't imagine how it affected usability.

Not going back, though.

Well, if you would like to avoid #operatingsystem (OS) #enshittification, I really recommend getting in touch to your local #FOSS community and run #Linux on your machine.

It's almost perfectly shit-free, you can update the whole OS as well as all(!) applications with one command any time YOU decide, it runs much faster (yes, even many Windows apps including most #games if you can invest some efforts here), doesn't require you to switch hardware after a couple of years, doesn't suck out any personal data of you, and doesn't force #AI slob onto you.

Not to mention the huge difference in #security.

My first exposure to a computer was #XP. Kept using it until the 6th grade.

Skipped #Vista since my PC couldn't handle it.

Got my first laptop in 7th grade, #Win7. Loved it.

When #Win8 came out, I started to see the OS I loved turn to shit. 8.1 was only a mild improvement.

10th grade, dualbooted #Win10 with #Ubuntu until Year-4 of Uni.

When #Win11 came out and I decided to fully commit to #Linux.

Tho I'm happy I jumped ship early on before this crap, can't help but mourn my childhood #OS.

I wish that the #AI hype hadn't eaten all the computer components. I was bemoaning the cost of #hardware the other day. MAN do I wish I could get a high quality SSD for old prices. #Win11 is so much worse that #Win10. Right now my taskbar is not clickable. I can see it. I can hover. I click and get nothing. I have to use keyboard shortcuts. What?!?! In 2026, I can't even get my taskbar to work right???

Mein Vater hatn Laptop da läuft noch #win10 drauf. Nun wünscht er sich von mir, dass ich den auf #win11 upgrade. Das kann ich mit meinem Gewissen aber nicht vereinbaren.
Habt ihr gute Argumente um ihn zu überzeugen, dass es keine gute Idee ist und ich lieber #linux installieren sollte? Er ist jetzt nicht unbedingt ein technisches Embryo aber wirklich viel Wissen hat er in dem Bereich nicht.
