  2. @partim the reason it weighs as much is to avoid the construction and use regulations in the USA. Anything over 1.5 tons is regarded as a truck and therefore does not have to undergo crash testing, stability testing or fuel consumption measuring. It costs the manufacturers much less to build as a result, which is why they promote them so strongly 💵
The consumer has no idea they’re buying a chassis truck from the 1950s which will kill them if they crash or roll over #notech

  3. How to Keep Beverages Cool Outside the Refrigerator

    April 25, 2012

"In the industrialized world, we know only of one way to cool beverages: place containers in refrigerators. This practice, which occurs on a massive scale, is utterly dependent on fossil fuels.

"However, people obtained the same result much more #sustainably before the advent of the Industrial Revolution. In hot, dry climates, we used porous earthenware jugs that were not only re-usable, but also kept water cool by taking advantage of natural energy sources.

"The best known example is the Spanish ‘#botijo’, an unglazed ceramic container that cools beverages by evaporation. Similar drinking containers can be found in other Mediterranean countries, as well as in Mexico (where it is known as a ‘#búcaro’) and on the Indian subcontinent (where it is called a ‘#ghara’, ‘#matka’ or ‘#suhari’).

"The ceramic water cooler probably originated in the Indus Valley Civilization, which would make it 5000 years old."

  4. Not expecting comments of stars on this post, but I’m much more alert now because I’m onto my second cuppa of double brew coffee and the world is looking brighter now. I do want to note my rant about eggs. Hey! I have never had trouble getting eggs here in Phoenix even at the worst of the bird flu disruptions. There were times there were a lot less eggs and brands of eggs in the stores here, but never complete outrages. And I never once had to pay more than $5.69 for a dozen. Your experience?#TipOfDay #Recycle #NoTech #Eggs

  5. And now for banal! But practical! And I really need my second cuppa right now. Up at 5 am because holy cow, I fell asleep last night at 7 pm. Yikes. So here’s my #TipOfDay what I do with just a few eggs left. It’s when I really need to make more space in the fridge. I cut down a cardboard egg carton to fit 4 or 6 eggs. It holds the few stray eggs just fine. I imagine Amazon sells an egg holder but this is fine and recycles. 😄 #Recycle #NoTech #Eggs

  6. Neuer #Hollywood #Immobilien Trend: Dumb Home statt Smart Home. „Wir beobachten ein stark gestiegenes Interesse an #Lowtech- und #Notech-Häusern. Käufer suchen nach Häusern, die #Autarkie, Robustheit und Rückzugsmöglichkeiten vom technikbetonten Lebensstil bieten.“

  7. This is one time I would be glad for QT - this by @Snos is too good not to share, but she posted in German & I'm not sure everyone's instance is set up to translate.

This is how Canadians dry their clothes! 🍁 Who needs an electric dryer when you have a moose? 👍

The best part is moose are *mobile*, able to stay in the path of the sun as it moves - or *out* of the path of super-winds that will blow your socks & smalls into the next county. 😄

  8. Dear Lovely Peeps:

An (re?) #Introduction might be in order. I have decided it is time to stop wandering & settle down in a nice sunny garden. 😊

I've been around since 2016, and wherever I am, I try to create a wee gentle eddy of peace & whimsy in my corner of the Fediverse. 😇

I have a #hope-full perspective. Am strongly influenced by #DoctorWho. 😄 Believe in a #SolarPunk / #HopePunk future. Manage to find small good things to celebrate every day. 🎉

    Am interested in #FOSS, #travel, #photography, #sustainability, #accessibility, #reading, #writing, being #outside, #LowTech / #NoTech solutions, and a whole lot more.

    (I have a neuro-spicy brain so 'a whole lot more' really is a LOT! 😄 )

Come in, have a scroll, and maybe breathe a little easier. I hope you enjoy your time here. 💛

  9. #academic and #TTRPG people, may I please ping your networks? I'm scrying for information on groups / programmes where young learners (roughly Grade/Year 3) play #notech #TRPGs for any variety of #learning purposes. The info is part of the initial #Research for my #phd on #ttrpgkids , #metacognition and #language & #literacies development. Informal or formal, all matter.
