I started forging a cooper's driver today. I got the eye punched and drifted, the working end forged out, the struck end forged and shaped, and some rough filing on it.
Next time I'm there, I'll do some more filing to get the ears symmetrical, and I'll need to flatten the working end and start filing in a groove because it'll be too difficult when it's hardened. I need to harden and temper it too. I can likely get all that done next time in addition to hanging a handle.

While doing the final drift, the handle of the last hammer I made broke. I guess it decided that it was no longer needed.

I finished the hammer today. All I did was a final drift (making the eye better shaped), put my stamp on it, some light filing to take the corners off, and hardened and tempered it. I hung the handle, blackened it, and oiled it.

I did basically everything except hardening and tempering a new hammer today. The hole I punched was super clean- I was happy about that. In the photo, you can see the steel with the hole punched. Next to it is the small bit of steel lost from punching. To the right of it is the punch I made last year that I used today.
If I don't go finish it tomorrow, I'll go next Wednesday and can take some photos of the finished hammer.

I made a little test piece for what I'm calling a "wine glass stake". The plan is to drive it into the ground and put a stemmed wine glass on top. I'm happy with how it turned out. I eyeballed it, so I was happy when I got it home and a wine glass fit perfectly.

i ended up ordering two different sized handles that both might fit the smaller hammer. i can use the other one for either another small-to-medium sized straight pein hammer, some other top tool like a slitting chisel or flatter, or something fun like an experimental cooper's driver.
-
i went to an architectural salvage/reuse place over the weekend. there were a bunch of tools including a few of what appear to be blacksmith made punches and chisels.
i picked up two reasonably priced ball pein hammers. the larger is in ok condition, but the smaller one's ball pein needs to be dressed- it's pretty marred up, but not so much that it's not easily repairable with a file or grinder.
you can see on the larger one that its handle has been hit a few times. i'll probably order a new handle and use this one until it breaks or i get tired of the varnished handle. the smaller one probably needs a new handle too, but i'm not sure which handle to get for it. i'll have to do some digging to find a suitable handle.

One of the latest stream drawings I did! I really enjoyed painting her, and explaining the theory behind painting metal and red hot items!

Some omega symbols I made in forging, I think they turned out well considering I mangled 3 peices before getting it right

I have been thinking about things I can make to sell lately. I am thinking I might focus on 2 things: axes and chests. Axes are fun and I like making them. For chests, I can make different style wooden chests and make all of the hardware in the smithy. Blacksmithing hinges, hasps, nails, and even locks would make them cool, custom pieces. I have no idea if there's a market for either, but I guess I can't know until I try.
