Preserve a Public Noblogs Site

Public movement history should not disappear because a server, provider or domain does.

If you run a Noblogs site, save two different things:

A WordPress export containing the material needed to rebuild the site.

A static mirror showing the public site as readers actually saw it.

If you administer the site
Open `YOURBLOG.noblogs.org/wp-admin` and sign in.
In the dashboard, select Tools → Export.
Select All content, then press Download Export File.
Rename the downloaded file `blogname-export-YYYY-MM-DD.xml`.

Install the free, open-source program HTTrack.
Open HTTrack and select Next or New Project.
Give the project your blog’s name and choose where the backup should be stored.
Select Add URL, paste the complete public homepage address, then select Next → Finish.

When the download finishes, choose Browse Mirrored Website. Open several posts, archive pages, images and downloadable files to make sure they work.

Put the WordPress XML file and the entire HTTrack project folder inside one clearly dated folder. Keep one copy on your computer and another on a separate drive or trusted location.

The XML export does not preserve the site’s appearance. The HTTrack mirror is not a replacement for the WordPress export. Keep both.

If you are preserving someone else’s public site

For an important individual page:
Open the public page and copy its complete URL.
Go to Internet Archive: Save Page Now.
Paste the URL and press Save Page.
Open the archived result and confirm that it works.

Install the free, open-source SingleFile browser extension.
Return to the original public page, wait for it to finish loading, click the SingleFile icon and save the resulting `.html` file.

For a whole public site, follow the HTTrack instructions above using the public homepage. Do not sign in, enter passwords or attempt to reach private pages.

Record the page title, author or collective, original URL, publication date and the date you saved it. Internet Archive is an additional copy, not your only copy. Submitting a homepage does not guarantee that the Archive captured every linked page.

Finally, test the local backup with Wi-Fi turned off. Open its `index.html`, click through several pages, and make sure images and documents load.
Preserve public material only. Do not bypass logins, collect private data or republish material that could expose people. Respect authorship, context and removal requests.

An export is not a mirror. A mirror is not enough. Keep both. Keep two copies.

If anyone wondered whether #AI & #LLM #bigtech companies were forced to hold #autodafe & #bookburning after stealing all their contents, the existence of fast alternative methods to scan #books as per #internetarchive project below, show that at best the destruction of books is gratuitous, as worst, a deliberate act of #fascism.

I held off the #TechBro future for 10 years (I predicted all of that would happen in 2015-16 way back in the 1980s / 1990s, and have it documented on the #InternetArchive). I couldn't do it alone... It's not looking good, but if we all RISE UP... Maybe...

Et c'est bien dommage car son contenu (en tout cas ce qui a été archivé) semblait très utile pour les membres d'un #CSE

Visiblement c'est une entité nommée #Syndicoop qui maintenait ce site et aussi une app d'info syndicale. Mais il n'y en a plus de trace en ligne. Qqn sait ce qui est arrivé à l'équipe/la personne qui le maintenait ?

Is anyone else having trouble connecting to the #InternetArchive?

Downdetector says it is fine, but the past few days I can't ever connect to it on the web, and it was unreliable for a week or so before that.

Is it just me?

Edit: Wait, it works on my phone when I turn Wifi off. So it *is* just me.

Sitting outside with tethered phone, trying to access #waybackmachine, but systematically rerouted to #Tesco's website. Hackjob? I worked out Tesco mobile is blocking access to the entire #internetarchive by default under the pretext of child #internetsafety, a total #censorship overreach⚠️ ! My parental access will take 24h to be granted, so I still have no mobile access. In the meantime I donated to http://web.archive.org because a world without it is scary. Drop a few 💲💲💲 if you can!

Yesterday I added the page about Juliette to the Web Archive by hand.

Now her story stays there even if the domain goes, or the hosting, or me, or whoever renews it after me.

My son will be able to open it and read it in any of the three languages. The photos got archived too, and that is the part that matters to me most.

It pulls the images, walks through everything and makes a full copy. At least it looks right on mine.

The #InternetArchive is down It does not really make sense to me, that the information channel for downtimes of @internetarchive is on their own infrastructure - and seems to be down, too.

The Internet Archive @internetarchive services are offline. Unfortunately, although they list Mastodon among the platforms for finding the latest information, they don't seem to have posted anything here (they have on Bluesky and on Musk's platform). So here it is:

Transport Tycoon (iOS, 2014) OST (TTD OST remaster)

This is the soundtrack for Transport Tycoon for iOS/Android (2014), a remastered version of the original game, Transport Tycoon Deluxe (1995). The original game was developed by Chris Sawyer for MS-DOS, and had an original jazz/blues soundtrack by John Broomhall.

For the 2014 version of the game, John Broomhall personally remastered the original soundtrack as well.

The tracks in this release were ripped from the iOS release of the game. They were not re-encoded. There is no lossless quality available.

The tracklist has been put in the same order as the original game.
