Got a bunch of games installed, and sorted out the VKB HOTAS + head tracking setup as needed. The only game I haven't been able to get working yet is STALKER 2, which freezes on new game load screen. Tried many things. Otherwise, pretty happy with #Nobara #Linux

Ouff, having a bad time with #Nobara. I didn't love it last time, but it worked fine for a couple of years. This time something is very wrong, and I can't even install anything. And the first thing I see, after one failed boot attempt, is that it will stop supporting my GPU very soon, which was the whole reason I chose to try this distro again! :(

Normaler Weise nutzen wir Linux Fedora Workstation und sind sehr zufrieden. Leider muss man hier immer noch einiges nachträglich installieren - treibermäßig.
Nun testen wir mal Nobara - einen Ableger von Fedora. Da ist schon sehr viel implementiert und ich bin zur Zeit sehr angenehm überrascht.
Alles läuft reibungslos - gerade Videoschnitt mit #Kdenlive, aber auch #Inkscape, #DigiKam, etc..
Wir testen weiter :)

In progress on upgrading the Stream Laptop to #Nobara #Linux tonight. install process was pretty smooth. Love some of the features on the welcome screen. Currently working through software installs and configs might even get in a short test stream if everything goes smoothly...

I think #Debian does not like my main pc. After several attempts to install Debian 13, I think it's time to move on.

Based on previous experience, I think I will head back to #Nobara. Hopefully the #Gnome issues I had previously have been ironed out.

Ok, etter en lang dag med #Nobara :nobara: Linux igår og Datter 1.0 brukt det hele dagen idag, så liker jeg helt klart denne distroen bedre enn #Bazzite :bazzite:

Samtidig så kjenner jeg litt på at distroen føles veldig som et litt uferdig hobbyprosjekt og har fortsatt lyst til å teste å sette opp #Fedora :fedora: og tune det selv for #LinuxGaming.

...men så fikk jeg idag øyene opp for Pop!_OS...

Update to my #linux journey. After enjoying #Bazzite, but failing to solve HDR in games, and realizing the devs are quite antagonistic to Nvidia (mixed feelings here), I tried:

#nobara First update broke the system irrevocably.

#aeon Dev believes security chain is important, so impossible to install to external SSD or dual boot, so can't try it despite it looking like everything I want.

#CachyOS So much faff and needlessly technical setup (and I am a technical person)

Nå har Datter 1.0 og jeg lært oss å installere StarDew Valley Mods på #Nobara :nobara: Linux. Var egentlig ikke noe vanskeligere enn på Windows.

Egentlig enklere, man må bare ikke være redd for å åpne terminalen og kjøre et par enkle kommandoer istedet for å gå igjennom en GUI basert installer med masse valg.

#Bazzite klikket helt for meg igår, alt ble skrivebeskyttet og feilmedlingen haglet. Etter å ha strevd nesten to timer uten å løse problemet installerte jeg istedet :nobara: #Nobara Linux med GNOME.

Så langt virker det lovende, litt mer "hjemme" for en som er vant med Fedora.

So that's #Bazzite re-installed, but not without issue or a great deal of hassle for some reason this time.

Eventually got it installed and bootable, after trying to install #Nobara and seeing its installer crashing every time...

So Bazzite is on, Wow is re-installed, so we'll see how that goes over the weekend.

Bazaar, the flatpak store is having some issues opening though. Although the workaround of new window seems to work...

also hey posting this on my nobara install. Finally dual booting linux again. slowly trying to make norbara my daily driver I'm just going through moving as much as I can over.

Also also using vivadi as firefox has shat the bed, though I might try floorp and waterfox in the near. I want to try orion more but that's only on apple OSes right now.

Some more OS #shenanigans today: Did an update on the #Bazzite mini pc and it #borked the system. Once logged in the system would freeze.

After some attempts to troubleshoot I installed #PikaOS instead. For all intents and purposes, it runs and looks the same just with a different base.

And on the main pc front if I cannot fix the issues with glitchy gnome apps on #Nobara, I will be moving to another distro soonish.

So far the temps and the sounds have been much lower that the #ITX set up. #mATX seems to be the sweet spot between function and size.

All the parts assembled well and #Nobara Linux took care of the software/firmware.

Now the big question is: should I keep the PC on top of my desk or under the desk?

I've switched more than a year ago and I am so happy with it!

If you want steam to just work out of the box with all games, I recommend #nobara .That even gets it done with all Nvidia drivers etc.

Since I have been playing with #GnomeOS, I went back to my main distro (#Nobara) to change things up a bit on my desktop (aka tweak the top bar and dock).

I think I am gonna stay with a light themed desktop for awhile. In addition, I am trying to see if I can comfortably get away with a minimal doc; maybe eventually move to no dock. In my head, the idea of mono tasking seems like a noble effort.

Anywho, here is a quick screen grab of my Nobara Gnome DE setup along with the cursory #fastfetch info displayed like the good ol #Neofetch layout.

Well, I have managed to sort out the #plasmashell crashing after an update for #nobara 42, but I have decided that for all the great stuff it offers...it's kinda heavyweight.
So, as much as I love distrohopping, I am more of the user type, so I am going to my trusted distribution, which is #linuxmint ..yeah, #noob stuff, but I value stability and easy of work over the latest thingy.
Also, I would love to do some #ricing ...but do I really have time for this? :)

Because French courts ruled that the roads used by drivers are physically located in France, and therefore subject to French law. So what about YouTube? Isn’t it made of “tubes” too... literal, physical tubes... like undersea cables and fiber optics stretching across the Atlantic? I don’t want to sound cynical, but at some point, those tubes pass through France too. And still, that’s not enough. Our content, disputes, and takedowns are judged under laws written an ocean away.

And this is where the trap closes. Whether or not the platforms promote freedom and open source (Mastodon, Odysee, BitChute, Ghost.io, Vimeo, Twitch, YouTube), all of them without exception state in their terms of service that disputes must be resolved in foreign jurisdictions. It doesn’t matter that they advocate for user privacy or net neutrality. Their U.S. legal base is enough to activate the DMCA... a law that assumes you’re guilty before you’ve even had the chance to defend yourself. The result is inevitable: there is only one viable solution for those who wish to preserve their rights and survive this digital chaos... Work exclusively with providers based in France or Europe. That’s the only way to remain under a legal framework we understand, recognize, and can actually enforce.

What might seem like a paranoid fantasy is now our operational doctrine. We spent weeks looking for a sustainable solution. GoDaddy has now been replaced by a two-part setup: OVH for domain names, and o2switch for hosting. Why? Because despite OVH’s weak customer service, their DNS is reliable. And o2switch is a rare gem... a French company, bound by French law, with real human support, and no interest in exploiting your data. Their model is simple, fair, and unlimited. While competitors charge for every byte as if it were gold, o2switch provides powerful tools, solid infrastructure, and a win-win philosophy. Even better: their WordPress support is widely praised by the community. Thanks to this change, we can now host our own videos previously uploaded to YouTube, using WordPress plugins with secure players. The so-called alternatives to YouTube, even those advocating for openness, are all U.S.-based. o2switch is a rare find... a real asset for digital sovereignty, allowing us to continue existing without sacrificing our values or sinking deeper into debt.

Twitch has been replaced by Owncast, hosted on Hetzner Cloud (Germany) for just €3.79/month, with simple installation. Private streaming isn’t supported, but public indexing through their directory could even boost our reach. Captivate is replaced by Podlove, a WordPress plugin, which lets us centralize content and simplify navigation. ChatGPT is replaced by Le Chat Mistral, the only AI neither American nor Asian. Windows is phased out in favor of Nobara Linux, backed by a strong open-source community and compatible with nearly all modern games. Kdenlive replaces paid video editing software. Logitech peripherals are supported. Elgato is out... replaced by Loupedeck, a better fit for Linux with hardware-level controls. Emails remain with Tutanota, an EU-based provider committed to privacy. A few exceptions remain... Hear-me.social (a Mastodon instance) and RadioBoss Cloud... based in Eastern Europe. Social media now plays only a teaser role. The real content, the heart of the experience, lives with us... on our own infrastructure, in our own digital home.

Why does this all matter? Because if your website is hosted on servers physically located in France, your opponents must use French law to come after you. No more DMCA. No more California courtrooms. If a U.S. company wants to take down your content or claim ownership, they’ll have to go through French courts, under French law, with all the procedural safeguards that entails. In short, this technical migration is a legal survival strategy. A way to reclaim our infrastructure, our freedom of speech, and our digital future. As long as your platform is hosted in the U.S., you are at their mercy. But by bringing our data home to France, we regain our sovereignty.

Seit ungefähr dem Ende des 1.Quartal im Jahr 2024 bin ich fort von Windows 10 und hin zu Linux gewechselt, da mich Windows 10 zunehmen extrem genervt hatte mit den beständigen Updates für irgendwelche neue „Schnüffeleien“ getarnt als unscheinbare Anwendungen im Hintergrund welche nur bedingt sowie mit Aufwand deaktiviert werden konnten.

Goddamit. I thought that for once, or maaaybe twice, in the 19 years I've been running Linux, that this one time an upgrade from one version to the next had gone fine. Things looked good. Then now there's very obvious graphical glitches in Gnome Settings and Nautilus. Ugh. Guess I'll have to do a clean install yet again. This must be my biggest annoyance with Linux right now, I think.
