Tinkering with some #VR gaming and was able to get it working with my #Debian mini PC by just pulling an updated version of mesa from the stable backports repo. But, it didn't work on #ChimeraOS, which hasn't seen an update since last June. So I've converted the new #gaming PC to #Bazzite and streaming VR games wirelessly to my Meta Quest 2 headset with the Steam Link app seems to work fine. It's a little flaky at times, but seems to work best in desktop mode.

The build list for the #gaming PC I just built for myself the other day, and what I paid for it at #Microcenter. A lot cheaper than I thought, though still considerably more expensive than the last system I built. The last time I built a system AMD still used PGA CPUs instead of LGA. It has done great though with #ChimeraOS and will make an excellent 1080p living room gaming machine, 🙂

Built my own #SteamMachine with #ChimeraOS today. More expensive than the last time I built a #gaming PC, but not too bad since #Microcenter had bundles with the 7800X3D, motherboard and 32GB of RAM for like $500.
I may have to move it or do some modifications to our entertainment center, depends on how thermals act under a gaming load.

Over Christmas I started looking into the emulator options available in #ChimeraOS and they work really well.
Managed to play Burnout 3: Takedown with the #PS2 emulator. IMHO the best installment of the #Burnout series. -

Pues bien, el creador de ChimeraOS ha desarrollado una nueva distribución de Linux llamada Kazeta. Está enfocada a comportarse como si fuera una consola de los 90. La idea es tener tus copias de juegos en tarjetas microsd y jugar directamente.

- Finally I'm trying #ChimeraOS. I've used it before and liked it. I do really appreciate the fact that its installer is just "We're going on this drive, are you sure?" and that's it. The graphical hiccup when switching in and out of desktop mode is gone and perhaps it's because Gnome doesn't do HDR (yet), but desktop mode looks fine even if HDR was enabled in gaming mode.
So it looks like I'll be sticking with ChimeraOS. Bazzite seems cool,, but it's just not for me I guess.

Looking to make a mini PC I have into a steam console. Any opinions on whether I should use #Bazzite or #ChimeraOS for it? I'm because I almost exclusively watch my Jellyfin server I'm also trying to replace my AppleTV with this box. I'd love to hear in the replies if you have particular reasons you'd choose one over the other.

Damn, I wasn't aware just how usable "raw" #SteamOS is these days when installed on a regular desktop (with the usual recommended hardware setup you'd expect with #Linux ofc i.e. #AMD GPU, etc.).
#LTT tested installing, again, "raw" SteamOS (so.. not #HoloISO, #ChimeraOS, or #Bazzite) on one such desktop PC and tried #gaming on it and even perusing the #KDE Plasma desktop mode and honestly, with very little hitches - the few of which are mostly expected hitches since SteamOS is still primarily designed for the #SteamDeck and the Steam Deck alone.
Fingers crossed SteamOS will be released to more devices soon this year, likely starting with more handhelds from other vendors and maybe to the general desktop a year or more later. As much as a lot of people are demanding #Valve to go fuck all and rush their distro out to the general public, they seriously have no idea what they're wishing for.

Well, going to flash my mini chimara os machine with bazzite. Chimera does work well but I wanna see if Bazzite will work a little better....and not force a full reboot on wake. We shall see. 🤞🏻

Si bien Steam Deck no ha sido el primer ordenador de videojuegos portátil, si que podemos decir que ha sido el que los ha popularizado y eso ha hecho que marcas como Lenovo o Asus saquen los suyos.
Desgraciadamente, estos últimos vienen con Windows y no con Linux.
Si has adquirido la nueva Asus Rog Ally X y quieres ponerle Linux tenemos buenas noticias. Recientemente se publicó ChimeraOS 46-2 que incluye soporte completo para este hardware.

I decided to go with the ultra minimal setup with no built in desktop environment so I'll be building one up from scratch. Gonna start by experimenting with Niri and seeing how far I can get with it

Interesting. Hopefully this gives a little kick to #Valve to speed things up in getting #SteamOS... everywhere. Though I don't blame them or think they're purposefully "locking" SteamOS in longer than they need to, they simply actually just need to cos #SteamDeck users would know how SteamOS, as great as it is, comes with a lot of bugs and quirks Valve is struggling to iron out 2 years after its launch - and that's while it's still dedicated to the Steam Deck. Its complexity would be upped tenfold when it starts to be adapted to the general desktop and other handhelds.
Just look at other SteamOS like distros, like #HoloISO, #ChimeraOS and #Bazzite. As great as they are too, and while it's nice that thanks to them we get to have a feel of SteamOS on a lot of desktops besides just the Steam Deck, it'd be a lie to say the experience at the moment isn't a buggy mess that have things, sometimes really important ones, break every update or two. They genuinely need the time to cook.
