  1. It's getting kinda annoying how every time I let Bottles update the runner for the BattleNet launcher, it just breaks the app irreparably and I have to re-create the bottle from scratch.

  6. First defeat on my new Linux-based gaming box, and it's on a game that should be painless.

There's new free DLC for remastered Quake 1 and I decided to finally give it a shot. I could play it on my daily driver (Ryzen 7 5700U), but for some reason it's bit laggy. Gaming box it is then.

Game started without issues. But then I realized the keyboard misbehaves (for example, trying to bind "H" key resulted in binding "NumLock" 😑). Ten minutes later and after changing Proton version I realized the in-game mouse behaves like analog stick so I spent another 30 minutes finding:
    - what's going on (it sees mouse as a controller's stick)
    - how to disable it (read: which file you should change and how)
    - why it suddenly locks up on white screen (that's on me, actually)

And when it finally ran with mouse working as it should, I realized the mouse is even more laggy (and jerky) than on daily driver and... there's no sound.

So, 40 minutes trying to make game working and I eventually raised white flag. I'll play on daily driver instead, thank you very much.

There's one good thing here - learned there's "plocate" tool. Close enough to Voidtools' "Everything" (if you're on Windows and not using it, you should give it a shot).

  11. Son#1 has discovered "No Man's Sky" and after a quick round of research, it seems this game, which I dismissed after initially very bad reviews, has managed to become a rather decent game after several years of continuing upgrades.
He's trying it with a PS4 library version (which seems to have replaced playable demos for us) and I will probably buy it on GOG afterwards. Let's hope it runs well under Linux/Wine/Proton.

  16. Although CS2 is running, it seems to be a bit slower than on Windoze. Nothing quantifiable, just a feeling.

And fiddling with settings and mods has resulted in quite a number of crashes so far.

Could be in the mods, could be in maybe not the latest and greatest Debian packages, could be something else 🤷

But there's autosave, so I haven't lost anything yet. Once everything is up and running, it's stable.

  20. The hernias are a bit less painful, and I sat behind my PC a bit this weekend.

I installed Steam on my Linux workstation, and with no problems whatsoever I could install and run Cities:Skylines2. Yay!

Been a while since I played, I didn't feel like using an EOL Windoze 10 to go online, and there is no way I'm upgrading to 11. Turns out: I don't need Windoze anymore now 😎
