  1. Old account Jan 25, 2023

Just used (twitodon.com/) and (movetodon.org/) to find some of the people I follow on Twitter. They work in different ways, so I recommend both.

  2. Are there any functioning tools out there that are paying for #TwitterAPI access so that they can continue to offer great tools like #fedifinder #movetodon #Twitodon #debirdify etc used to be able to offer? i.e. helping to find your #Twitter #X contacts on #Mastodon?

  3. Goedemorgen

Dus: wees vooral welkom.

  4. As we're in the midst of another migration wave and this times sites reliant on the #twitter #API like #movetodon and #debirdify no longer work, remember it's massively more important than ever to boost posts and hashtag everything, stumbling across people you followed on the bird site is going to be harder than ever for new arrivals.

  5. @nomatic @FediFinder I don't see how that violates GDPR. I can maybe see an anti-trust angle, but I don't really know anything about law.

Personally I'd be surprised if there were a law that mandates free (or cheap) API access for third parties.

Banning #Movetodon and #Debirdify without explanation and without responding to inquiries was an unfair move from Twitter for sure (although probably not illegal), but since Twitter has been announcing that they would shut down all API access for everyone anyway I think it would be hard to pursue that angle anyway.

  6. Charles Gaba posted about this friend finding tool on Twitter

"HEY EVERYONE LOOKING TO MOVE TO MASTODON *OR* SPOUTIBLE:

I know tools like #Debirdify & #Movetodon are gone now thanks to Musk, but scafaria has come up w/a new tool which helps you find Twitter users who have accounts on both Mastodon & #Spout!

    whosum.com/

WhoSum is a Chrome extension which scrapes your follower/following lists (or anyone's, really) & stores an archive of accounts with Mastodon accounts in their bios/profiles...but it also lets you search for accounts w/URLs w/*any* phrase"

  7. @charlesgaba @scafaria Just FYI the API access isn't gone yet. #Fedifinder still works.

It's just that they suspended #Movetodon and #Debirdify (without giving a reason) but not #Fedifinder (not yet at least).

  8. 📣 OK, this is fantastic! @scafaria & his team have come up with an excellent replacement for the now-defunct @debirdify & #MoveToDon tools!

  9. At the moment, #Movetodon is not working properly. Movetodon needs to use the API of Twitter and Twitter has blocked our access to the API, mentioning it would “violate Twitter Rules and policies.”

  10. Here on the #Fediverse we don't have algorithms, but there are tools that can perform functions that are similar.

For example suggesting people to follow. This is a website that looks at who your friends follow to show you people you might be interested in.

  11. PSA for people who have not completed their #TwitterMigration: #movetodon has not been working for a while, but #debirdify still is. Find the accounts you used to follow on Twitter with debirdify.pruvisto.org/

  12. @kirt @[email protected] @feditips @[email protected] AFAIK #debirdify works (at least for me), no global API changes were deployed so far. Only #movetodon was likely singled out and suspended: mastodon.social/@Tibor/1098009

  14. On February 9, Twitter will cut its free API access. Last chance to use the migration tools below or similar services to find Mastodon handles. Revoke access for connected apps in your settings afterwards.

    #Debirdify: debirdify.pruvisto.org
    #Fedifinder: fedifinder.glitch.me
    #Twitodon: twitodon.com
    #MastodonFlock: mastodon-flock.vercel.app
    #Movetodon (blocked): movetodon.org

Screenshot).

  16. I just now finally got around to migrating my #follows, #followers, and #lists from #Twitter to #Mastodon. It was super easy, and the feeling of #liberation is palpable.

I used #Debirdify (debirdify.pruvisto.org/), and I highly recommend it. You simply login on Debirdify with your #birdsite account, select which lists of people you want to migrate, export them as one or more #CSV files, and then import those files in your Mastodon preferences under "Import and export."

Note: The #API that Debirdify uses to export your data for you will be shut off on Thursday, February 9th, and #SpaceKaren might cut it off even sooner than that if he feels like it, so if you've been #procrastinating on this (like I was), get on it immediately!

  18. @Tibor
The irony that "Twitter Rules and policies" have clearly been adjusted so that #Movetodon now violates them, I don't think has been lost on anyone.

I have never used Movetodon, but I recognise its value to anyone who wants to support a free and federated network. Thank you for your hard work.
