I think my problem is that I might actually be more cynical than the people loudly complaining about it, although the lack of consistency is kind of annoying.

Stop posting directly on #Twitter / #BirdSite. Let's stipulate it's somehow a meaningful pipeline to the #American people. I don't think so, but whatever. Make a post on @[email protected] then use the "share" feature & post that to Twitter with some good hashtags. Stop enriching #ElonMusk. For fuck's sake

Well, it finally happened. Twitter has suspended my account, likely because in November 2022 I changed the display name of my account to "[email protected]." I haven't used it since, except to login every once in a while to keep the account from being reused by bots. Oh the irony in that the account was suspended for: "Violating our rules against inauthentic behaviors."

Well that was fun.
For those who didn't see the shenanigans on #birdsite - turns out my router was garbage. You know, the one the ISP said was _required_ to use their network? It was trash and killing my connection.
Pulled it and ran from the ONT straight to my Eero and had network just fine. But all of my NUCs are hardwired ... so needed a new TP-Link router in front of my 1GB switch before I could get k8s back online.
So glad to have things live again.

Projects, companies, or YouTube channels that still link to a "Twitter" account are doing their users and the internet a gross disservice.
Twitter is gone. It no longer exists. There is X, a fascist propaganda and GenAI revenge porn site, that happened to buy Twitter's database before shutting it down. But that's not Twitter.
Giving X any karma or nostalgia because Musk bought Twitter's user database before destroying it is foolhardy and dangerous, and irresponsible.

When I abandoned the #BirdSite, I went with here, of course, and #BlueSky - mostly for work.
However, as I find people finding their feet on BlueSky, I also highlight #Mastodon and Mastodon.ie in particular.
People seem to appreciate it. If #Mastodaoine are on other platforms, similar direction might be appreciated. -
Remember, these clowns didn’t test this feature properly nor stop it once they saw what it was doing.
It was only AFTER threats of blocking / fines that they have “mostly” disabled it.Utterly fucking gross.
Anyone who uses X or Grok is flagging they’re fine with all this.

@jillymackay I am trying to get to #veted2023 for my first #VetEd conference, but I live in Vienna and my flight (via Amsterdam) has been cancelled! Now rebooked via Paris (very short transfer!) and hope to make it to #Edinburgh later today! Hope to see you there.....(new to mastodon, #birdsite with same handle but trying to post more here from now on!)

@therobburgessshow I keep it at Mastodon because Mastodon is good for why I joined Twitter in the first place: following the tech crowds.
#CounterSocial: seems a lot emptier than Mastodon and their Desktop UI look like several mobile feeds side by side. It's hard to look at.
#Tribel: I don't hear enough about them.
#Spoutible: I like the guy behind it Chris Bouzy. When I went on, it was empty but, I have heard before there is too much gatekeeping and it is like a hivemind in the same vein as Truth Social.
#PostNews: I don't hear a lot about that one but, I heard it had become primarily a news aggregator ran by bots. I just heard that and never tried to get on it.
#Blackplanet: It definitely isn't what it used to be and, there is limited engagement on posts.
All in all, I appreciate how many social media sites were built in response to Elon's takeover of #birdsite but, there can only be but so many to have engagement.

(2) Unfortunately, the #Mastodon instance I'm on does not have that specific emoji for the #birdsite verified checkmark and ended up deciding to go with the green checkmark instead for now. I have also noticed a couple accounts on here showing they were verified by fedified.com along with a few links on them. Even though I have figured out the links and added links to my #birdsite and #tribel accounts, I went into Fedified and logged in there.

I'm still in both places & everyone I follow isn't here yet. I'm excited to meet new people but not by giving up on the old. So my plan is to stay in both places until I'm satisfied important tweeps are here. I only follow 5000 pple on #birdsite.
I'm just saying be helpful. The newness & #friendliness is what makes this place nice. Let's keep it that way.

Hot take: Elon knows exactly what the heck he is doing. The intent has always been to destroy the potentially anyi-capitalist and liberatory power of twitter in the hands of the left. The move to purchase and destroy certain aspects of the site see through this lens makes more sense and as a power grab to defend his own interests: removing resistance to his capitalist ass and breaking apart movements that inevitably will target him and other like him.
