It seems like the #TwitterAPI has been turned off for real this time. #Fedifinder doesn't work anymore.

I don't know yet, if I will keep working on it. I don't even have the energy to think about it at the moment.

Wondering if there is something like #fedifinder or #debirdify but for finding #Facebook friends on Mastodon. Or does anyone have any tips for quickly finding FB friends here some other way?

It's just that they suspended #Movetodon and #Debirdify (without giving a reason) but not #Fedifinder (not yet at least).

It didn't at first when I tested it today, but after seeing that the old version (https://fedifinder-v1.glitch.me/) works, I gave it another try and it went through. Down to 538 from 617 accounts. Will have to look into what happened with the rest (deleted?).

For a while now, I've been thinking about why some media accounts on #Mastodon grow rapidly and some don't really. The majority of them are filled automatically, so where's the decisive difference?
It looks like I haven't seen the forest for the trees: By far the most helpful thing seems to be a linking to the account on Mastodon on the Twitter profile. So #Fedifinder and #Debirdify etc. can and as it seems very often do find it. At least until Twitter makes that impossible.

Linking to Mastodon on the own homepage on the other hand doesn't seem to do much.

My small sample suggests that media that link to their Mastodon account on Twitter did accumulate at least 6% of their follower-count, sometimes significantly more than 10%. Without this link, I found a maximum of under 4%.

But there are two notable exceptions. @[email protected] until today did not publicize its Mastodon-handle on Twitter, but has reached 17%, whereas the austrian @[email protected] has the link (and its own instance), but stands at less than 1%.

I think @[email protected] is growing because of the target audience and the fact, that we're from Germany (where #Mastodon is from) – apart from our content of course. I would hope, that our engagement helped too. But I have no explanation for the case of Der Standard. Maybe someone has an idea. And I certainly would like to see other examples.

There's another new alternative to #Movetodon, called #MastodonFlock ! (I haven't tried it yet, but I will later tonight. )

At first glance, it looks like it might combine the best of the other tools, logging into Mastodon to see who you already follow, AND providing a CSV at the end! So it's got some flexibility! 😎

#Movetodon is down right now, but there are 3 other tools!

#Debirdify and #Fedifinder both work well. They scan your Twitter follows, look for any who post their #Mastodon handle in their bio or pinned tweet, and give you a .csv file you can import to follow here. (Make sure you select "merge"!)

Another one is #Twitodon that works slightly differently, but I haven't used it.

I don't have the links on hand, but they should be easy to find!
