Found a need to mute an entire hashtag tonight, but wasn't entirely clear how. In Moshidon, it's trivial.

The guide covers lots of topics including:
-Setting the interface language

-Filtering the Home timeline by language
-Filtering search results by language
-Setting your posting language and why it's important
-Why languages aren't detected automatically

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I think that being an organisation or otherwise non-personal account shouldn't absolve you from the common decencies of using alt-text, content warnings and following other general community etiquette.
I don't care whether you're a news agency, feed, project, creator, celebrity, club, company, or other organisation, I think you should still follow the local netiquette and put effort into each individual post on here.
But for some reason, operators of non-personal accounts seem to think that all these rules and norms don't apply to them.
And more bafflingly, a lot of people for some reason also give them a pass for it, as if it was 'understandable' that organisations can't do alt-text or content warnings. There's a PR employee logging into those accounts, or at least someone who set up a script to auto-post to the account. They can do these things, but choose not to.
I mean, I'm happy when organisations choose to be on the Fediverse instead of commercial social media. But I would rather not have them on here than have them treat this place as just another channel to copy-paste their generic content to.
I don't understand why people seem to be so understanding and accommodating of accounts like news agencies not putting content warnings on triggering news as if it was impossible.
My favourite newspaper is on here but it still posts news about, say, violence against queer people, without any kind of tag or warning. But that seems to be the norm and everyone gives them a pass.
I sometimes feel like some of you genuinely think that accessibility features like alt-text or content warnings are little silly nice-to-haves, while "serious, official" business is of course somehow naturally excluded from it, because that's "actually important".

If you're ever unsure about something related to your server, you can contact the admins who run it. They are real human beings who will respond personally 🙂
Every Mastodon server has an "About" page on its website which lists that server's admin account *and* also their public email address. This means you can always contact the admins even if your account isn't working.
This guide explains more and answers lots of questions about it:

@moira @skinnylatte Thanks for the reminder, this is another quirk of the fediverse in need of a fix.
I imagine there are a lot of similar posts where this placeholder appears, most without a (your) reminder, so unless one knows to do that, the placeholder message is all they see.

(My provider tells me that there is a bug and they can't do anything about it)
In the meantime I'm downloading all my toots with mastodon.py and searching locally to find stuff. Not ideal :(
