I’ve used Mendeley since I was an undergrad, but the bugs have worn me down and I want to switch. I think Zotero looks to be the best place to go next?

Now I just need to overcome the rage (and effort barrier) that I can’t transfer the library structure from Mendeley in one go, thanks for that Elsevier…

There are commercial solutions, of course, (e.g. #Mendeley) and solutions that involve out-of-premise installations like #Zotero (the server code is not OSS right?!) but I try to stay away from them as much as I can. I'd prefer an OSS solution that we can install on our own servers.

I only found https://www.bibsonomy.org/ so far. Is that any good, does anyone have experience with it?

Hello #academicchatter, can someone share their experience with referencing in #Scrivener?

I'm considering using it to write up my dissertation but I've been spoiled by #Mendeley's MS Word plugin and it turns out there is no Scrivener equivalent.

So, I wonder how you go about syncing Scrivener with your reference manager? Is #Zotero's RTF scan (and I hear #Endnote can do something similar) the best option?

The new #Mendeley is so rubbish (I have to log in each time & wait 10 minutes for it to sync all articles before I can do anything) it's made the switch to #zotero
for new research a no-brainer. Anyone else? #loveHE

Goal for today: Work on bibliography and create list of authors, quotes and paragraphs relevant to the research (along with transfering the notes and marked passages that I've worked through so far).

@gubi Thanks for the info. I've just imported from #Mendeley and it looks like everything is there and the #Zotero citing plug-in works too, thanks for helping me escape from #EvilElsevier 😉

@Buxton_Vienna #Zotero imported all my #Mendeley library in few minutes without any problem, and discovered also one retracted item because it is integrated with retraction watch. Starred folder is not imported, so if you want to get it on Zotero just create a "favorites" collection in Mendeley before the import and put there all the starred items to see this collection migrated to Zotero.

@gubi How did this move from #Mendeley to #zotero work for you? I've been using Mendeley since 2012 (so long before it was bought by #elsevier !) but the cloud version and this new Mendeley Cite thing in Word are driving me nuts today. Finally moved from #Mendeley to @zotero as my reference manager 🔖 👌

Mendeley is driving me up the wall today. The firefox extension keeps telling me it is failing to add references to my library, but is actually succeeding half the time, so now I have a bunch of double entries. And the desktop app keeps failing to delete the extra entries and leaving me with weird half deleted entries (that can't be selected or deleted again).

Too far into my thesis to switch to Zotero, but I'm definitely switching as soon as I'm finished.
