@Bumblefish I'm 60 and looking for a PhD. Since I came from a family with no one to pass on the "tricks" of academia, I could still use advice, esp when it comes to different academic systems in different countries.
I think one of the problems about being an older student is that people assume you know things already and you have trouble getting mentoring. #GradSchool #AcademicChatter #Ageism

On old Twitter, there used to be a pretty vocal and thriving community of academics in various disciplines, as well as people who were learning from them and current grad students when it comes to applying for grad school & prep programs.
Things seem more silent here (with the exception of EECS and physics, perhaps).

The postbac I am mentoring has thus far applied to a 18 PhD programs (a reasonable precaution right now), 13 of which have fees for a total cost of $1,001 (AVG = 77±20, max=105, min=30). I know the numbers because, as part of the position, I committed to paying these fees out of unrestricted funds. It's a good thing, too, because as a 1st gen student, this many applications would be totally unaffordable.

A little good news for your scrolly-scroll.
I just turned in my final project for #GradSchool at #PurdueGlobal. Which means I'm all done except for the shouting. I have sufficient points to #graduate with my #MSIT, however the grade lands.I also feel like an incredible weight has been lifted off my shoulders that I've been bearing for 2 years! Wow!

It was hot today—almost 37 degrees! Definitely felt it while out and about. Had lunch at one of my favorite spots, then checked out some op shops for a handbag, but they were all too small.
Had to make a vet appointment for Meesa’s vaccinations next week and double-check her microchip since one of the companies storing that data shut down. Thankfully, we’re not affected.
Also looked over some of my uni course material in preparation for next week when it officially starts. Picked up lamb, chicken, potato salad, and Greek salad for dinner for the next two nights. Now I’m exhausted and ready to relax.
