  1. #GoogleDocs added a new "feature": the text cursor now keeps blinking even while you move it by keyboard (e.g. arrow keys). That means, half of the time you cannot see where you currently are. Grrr.

  6. Setback after setback, testing and more testing. I've about had my fill of #Android text editors.

Part of me will miss version history and commenting on #GoogleDocs, the latter less used than the former.

But #ProtonDocs is still pretty much still beta - with a bug that makes the app confused about where the cursor goes - but also it needs to be always offline before it's truly usable.

I've landed on #OpenNote - again - mostly because it can do automatic backups to my #Jottacloud drive.

  7. Published my first script on GitHub!

Another educator and I used #ChatGPT and #GoogleGemini to create an #AppScript to translate #GoogleForms.

Translating forms is an important need for #k12 #education. Unfortunately, it is currently missing from #Google Forms. (Translation is only in #GoogleDocs at the moment.)

Paste the script in the script editor; save; run; give permission.

Script WILL overwrite original Form! Make a copy.

    The script is at:

  8. LaCrOs on chromeOS - multiple chrome profiles -

"I have been using the LaCrOs version of Chrome for more than a year, and I was devastated when I read Robby’s post about Google shutting down the LaCrOs experiment in the near future. “Devastated” might seem like a bit of an overstatement, but let me explain.

    Don’t take away my profiles!
The most valuable feature of LaCrOs was the ability to create multiple Chrome profiles. To those of you who use a Mac or PC as your primary device, [chrome profiles have always been available.]"

For some reason, chrome profiles were not available on chromeOS until the lacros flag was made available in 2022. this greatly increases the utility of chromebook by allowing users to seamlessly switch between chrome profiles as can be done on windows and mac.

  9. As a #researcher, whenever I can't use a service hosted by my #university, I use #framasoft tools:
    - Framadate, not #doodle
    - Framagroupes, not #GoogleGroups for email lists
    - Framatalk, not #Zoom
    - Framateam, not #Slack
    - Framaforms, not #GoogleForms
    - Framapad rather than #GoogleDocs (if I don't need formatting, fortunately I have uni-hosted #onlyOffice + a #CNRS hosted #overleaf too, #plmLatex)
    - Framagit for #git, not #github/ #gitlab
