Very interesting discussion on Code4Lib mailing list about converting data from #NVIVO format to open format https://lists.clir.org/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind2503&L=CODE4LIB&P=40466 nvivo is a proprietary software commonly used to process qualitative data. It seems you cannot work on these data without paying a licence to nvivo ; in spite of efforts put on Python scripts to make this conversion possible, the lack of an encryption key makes it impossible to reuse nvivo data within an open source alternative such as RQDA https://rqda.r-forge.r-project.org/

About once a year I need to figure out which #NVivo licence we are subscribed to.

As the company does not have a clear version history table on their homepage, this necessitates a visit to their user forum to find the entries w the info I need:
"Mate, v14 comes after v20!" 😉

I wanted to share that I'm running some special online sessions in NVivo training. They are 2 hours, twice a week, and run for 4 weeks. Maximum of 10 people - so small numbers.

The 4 training sessions are recorded and accessible for up to 8 weeks after the course, and the other 4 sessions are basically a Zoom room where everyone comes together and has an opportunity to work on their own data.

The aim is that people can walk away with a clear idea on how to use and apply NVivo for their data analysis.

I just added aTrain to my list of transcription tools - it's a big download, and Windows only (plus Linux), but after a quick trial I'm really impressed. The maxqda.txt output seems to work well with NVivo, too!

Of the 3, #Nvivo is good on navigation but less on visual, #Dedoose is middling at best, but #atlasti is clearly built with #accessibility in mind top to bottom, with sizing on everything easily adjustable, easy keyboard controls and more. Plus they document and share their commitment and progress. #disability https://atlasti.com/legal/atlas-ti-accessibility-and-vapt

Quite funny that #NVivo version numbers went from 12 to 2020 to 14. Even now number 13 still carries superstition (see hotel rooms, seating rows in planes, floors in buildings, street numbers...)

Heads up to #qualitative and #mixedmethods folk: the new version of #nvivo launched this week. Big updates are to paid collaboration add-on (now real-time but still a pricey subscription) and Citavi integration (for reference annotation and outlining). Still missing autocoding and other big features in Mac version. Assuming my upgrade goes smoothly, I'll be teaching our NVivo 101 workshop with v. 14 next month. https://lumivero.com/products/nvivo/
