Happy birthday to Gerardus Mercator (1512-1594) renown Flemish cartographer.
What made Mercator a great #cartographer, was in fact his abilities as a #mathematician -and like those of us scientists who feel compelled also to create art he was wasn’t hindered by his immense ability as an engraver. Today is also International Crow and Raven Appreciation Day and I for one, appreciate the corvids. They are extraordinarily intelligent birds! Here is my murder of crows, part of my #termsOfVenery series of collective nouns for animals series of prints.
The raven is the official bird of the Yukon, in my print with the official flora, fireweed.

Next in my Canadian 🇨🇦 province linocuts is Nova Scotia, with its provincial bird, the Osprey and its flower, the mayflower. The block was inked ‘à la poupée’ (with different colours, green, pinks, yellow and gray-brown, in different areas) and printed by hand on lovely Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper.
The mayflower (Epigaea repens) is also known as trailing arbutus has been a symbol of the province since🧵

Back in the 90s, I knew someone whose stepfather owned 850 acres outside of Napa. The property included the ruins of Napa Soda Springs, a Victorian-era resort.
I saw that he recently sold the property to Restoration Hardware.
