It still feels cold for spring here but it’s a week until Easter so I am thinking about a nest of rabbits, part of my terms of venery series of linocuts for collective names for animals.

The collective noun for a group of jellyfish is a “smack”. This amuses me, because I imagine them smacking their tentacles together in some sort of deepsea high five. To be honest, marine biologists speak of ‘blooms’ and we do tend to lump in a bunch of soft-bodies marine creatures into the term jellyfish, all of the gelatinous zooplankton in fact.... but ‘a smack of jellyfish’ is 🧵

This #linocut shows an obstinacy of buffalo in all senses of the words. The collective noun for a group of buffalo is a "obstinacy". Clearly, these are hard-headed beasts. These ones have drawn a line in the sand. I dare you to cross it. Technically, these are American bison (Bison bison), known colloquially in North America as 'buffalo'. Though would one really need multiple rhino before a "crash" would be a good description? Luckily, my crash of rhino are all on paper. These three are all headed for collision. The raven is the official bird of the Yukon, in my print with the official flora, fireweed.

A murder of crows for the #SciArtSeptember prompt scavenger. Four black crows, a murder of them, face away from one another, as if they are denying any knowledge of the suspicious red crow prints in the snow. The word "murder" is in red, of course.

The typography I designed for the words represents their meaning; not only is "murder" in red, it echos an old typewriter font, because it reminds me of hardboiled detective novels. 🧵1/
