My "Bold Grizzly Shares the Road" captures a spring moment from the Alaska Highway.
A golden-brown grizzly moves through tender green shoots and dry stems, fur catching the light and its presence both powerful and composed, anchored by earth tones and textured fur.
Which detail grabs you first — the gaze, the curve of the back, or the way the light skims the fur?

“Permafrost soils are particularly vulnerable to climate change. To assess and improve estimations of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) budgets it is necessary to accurately map soil carbon and nitrogen in the permafrost region. In particular, soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks have been predicted and mapped by many studies from local to pan-Arctic scales. Several studies have been carried out at the Canadian Beaufort Sea coast, though no regional maps of terrestrial carbon stocks based on spatial modelling has been conducted yet. This study combines available field data from the Canadian Yukon coastal plain and uses it to map regional SOC and N stocks using the machine learning algorithm random forest and environmental variables based on remote sensing data. [The authors] developed models using the data for the entire region and separate models for the coastal mainland area and Qikiqtaruk Herschel Island. Each model was used to map SOC and N stocks for its respective area. [They] assessed the performance of the different random forest models by using crossvalidation. [They] further assessed model results using the Area of Applicability (AOA) method and the quantile regression forest approach, comparing the results and discussing their implications within the context of both methods. [They] explore[d] local differences in soil properties and how soil data distribution across the region affects the accuracy of the predictions of SOC and N stocks..."

Hello #Yukon, this is likely the first ever #racketlon tournament in the territory!
August 29&30, singles and doubles, youth and adult, at the Canada Games Centre in #whitehorse
To keep it all in one facility, unfortunately, squash had to be replaced by #pickleball. As usual, there will be #tennis, #tabletennis, and #badminton.Come and play for just $25!

THREE JOURNEYS NORTH TO THE ARCTIC SEA:
Pierre Pambrun Jr. worked at Robert Campbell's Frances Lake post, and also at Pelly Banks. In 1850 or so, the Pelly Banks Post was consumed by a fire which destroyed all their provisions and warm clothes and also left them without ammunition in the middle of winter. It was a disaster in the making.... #Journeys #ThreeJourneysNorth #Yukon #NorthernBC https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/pierre-pambrun-jr./ -
The #Yukon #Government is asking citizens to submit red tape issues. Good! There is an online form, but it is not easy to find:
https://forms2.service.yukon.ca/ca/en/ecdev/red-tape-reduction.html
They ask you to "upload any documentation to support your feedback", but then they restrict that to ".png, .jpeg, .doc, .docx or .pdf" - and only a single file, max 10 MByte.
Can't make that up.

THREE JOURNEYS NORTH TO THE ARCTIC SEA:
In 1839, the HBC men under Robert Campbell made their way up the Liard River to Frances Lake, in #NorthernBC, before moving on to build a new post at Pelly Banks, above the Pelly River in #Yukon Territory. #Journeys #ThreeJourneysNorth https://nancymargueriteanderson.com/liard-4/ -
