  1. A big shout-out to Lesvos Shoe and Bag Repairs at the main Wellington railway station. I have walked past there for years and never had a need to go inside. But I had a tricky repair of my wind jacket so I thought I would give them a try. They fixed it OK but their shop/workshop was a joy to behold. They must have been in the same location for decades and it shows. Old-fashioned sounds a bit patronising but the shop/workshop was how shops used to be: quirky, crowded, idiosyncratic but everything in its own place and a system that just works. Most of the four of five workers there looked like they have been there as long as the shop itself. It was like a step back in time and felt very refreshing to be honest.

(I checked the companies register and there was Lesvos Shoe and Bag Repairs registered in 1965 but is no longer. Time sounds about right though!)

  6. I outed my usually inner grumpy old man this morning and told off a schoolboy on the train for having his bag on the seat beside him. As usual these days the trains are very crowded and people were standing. I felt a bit bad for him afterwards, but I can't abide those that 'seat hog' this way.

  11. Weird convergence of circumstances means that catching the fast train beyond my stop and coming back on another train meant I arrived before the train that I’d originally missed. #TrainLife

  30. Made it from Europepark to Freiburg, where it was snowing. Hope to make it to Zurich tonight via Basel. Then Milano in the morning for a much needed cup of Italian coffee. #trainlife

  35. Another crowded journey on a reduced capacity train while more and more take the train. At least I got a seat. And arrived at work to find toilets are out in our building. If not resolved by 10, the building with close and we will head home. In the meantime, we must either 'make do' or use public toilets nearby. Luckily I made it to the Library, 'just in time' as they say.

    Weather is lovely again though.🙃

  40. Good on the Wellington College boys who gave up their seats this morning at the polite request of the train driver. The train was packed due to the decreased capacity (😠) and for some strange reasons more people are catching the train these days ( :ablobthinkingfast:). The driver was very droll and witty, apologised for the cramped conditions, but said our days could only get better from here on in. (😂 )
Concerningly none of us were masked, something I will personally need to change. Lovely autumn day today, but Metlink, witty drivers aside, can go get in the bin. ( :trashfire: )

#TrainLife #CrossBorderRail
