  1. I just released my most technically complex iOS / Mac app : PanicVault - it was quite a journey to build a cross device password manager, a full website, a Google Chrome extension whilst doing the formalities associated with releasing an app using cryptography. Have a look here: panicvault.org

  2. @funvill I usually go with #keypass and especially keypassXC (better UI IMO). I sync it with some #syncthing to get updates between phone/pc/server and I'm good to go.

  3. There was a bug in the #signet client where it didn't check the size of #password entries when importing from #keypass databases. If they were too big, the import process would freeze.

Today that has been fixed in the #code and the patch will be included in the next release.

No security impact, but it was a usability issue.

  4. APROPOS OF NOTHING
am annoyed with the war of software packaging attrition #Ubuntu & #RedHat have with their snaps and flatpaks.

am, yet again, running all over the web to find an unabandoned PPA because i cannot properly run software that was developed as a .deb but now the only maintained version is encased in docker-like #Linux fuckery.

    #Zotero is now the latest of a growing list: #LibreOffice, #Firefox, #GIMP, #Inkscape, #Calibre, #Keypass, #Geany, #Freetube.

    WTF.

  5. Finally got all of my non-google off of Google Authenticator & set up on

I had been putting it off out of fear that it was going to be painful & cumbersome.

For the websites/apps that I am using, I was pleasantly surprised that most of them seem to have their shit together (e.g. etc.)

I can check one thing off of my todo list this week! Thanks for playing nice with your UI/UX

  6. Slowly moving away from Big Tech.

    Done 2 years ago

Migrated all laptops / desktops to from

    Done in the last year

    from
    from
    from
    from LastPass
    from GoogleDocs/Drive
    from Dropbox
    from

    Ongoing
from (this one will take a while)

    Still Stuck with

Have you made a switch or are you planning to?

  7. @summeremacs I can't recommend #Strongbox ( strongboxsafe.com/ ) enough. While not directly #FOSS, Strongbox uses the #Keypass database format and is therefore 1:1 compatible with #KeypassXC and other Keypass apps.
For me, any app that doesn't sync the database itself in its lock-in cloud is a definite value-add.

  8. Those moving from #lastpass should consider getting a password manager which is free and open source, cross platform, allows for self hosting, has 2 factor authentication (preferably supporting a hardware key) and which hasn't been involved in countless breaches over the last decade like #lastpass. A good solution would be #keypass or #keypassxc or derivatives.

  9. @utzer
