Buying stuff from #jetpens has become … a problem? A delight? A necessary part of my work?

It may take a few more months of regular orders to find out.

About two years ago, I picked up a cheap #Fuliwen 015 #fountainpen in "Noble Golden" for the gimmicky fidget spinner cap. There was some sort of issue with the nib or feed because I could never get any ink out of it without furious tapping. The normal first line fixes (thorough cleaning, resetting the nib, flossing the tines, etc) didn't help at all. Since it was so cheap, I even experimented with trying to file the ink channel in the feed with the thinnest guitar nut file I could find. Still no luck. Since it was such a cheap pen, wasn't working, and had been irreversibly altered with questionable skill, I wasn't willing to sell it to offload it. I considered it garbage but I kept it all this time for some reason (novelty? goofiness?).

Then last month, I was putting in an order with #JetPens and decided to throw on a medium nib to replace the fine one on my Kaweco AC Sport. When my order came in, I went to swap the #Kaweco nibs and discovered that I had already, at some point, done so and had seemingly just forgotten to update my records. Oops.

An idea began to take shape. What if I took this new spare medium Kaweco nib I had and installed it on that old useless Fuliwen 015 I had somewhere? Maybe that would be the solution to the pen's dysfunctions. It wasn't a fit but, again, this was a cheap pen that I already considered trash... so I went to town with my rotary tool to widen the inside of the section. Eventually, I ground out enough material to get the Kaweco nib assembly to fit into the pen very tightly.

I installed a short cartridge I had lying around. The pen wrote great and kept writing and writing. It still wrote great the next day. I left it capped for five days and it still started up just fine. After thirteen additional days of non-use, it is still functioning great. I guess it has a pretty good seal despite its cheap, tacky appearance.

Anyway, that's my story about how I spent 2x the price of a pen on a new nib unit and "fixed" it. I now consider it a great little Frankenpen['s monster]. My only functional complaint is that it takes about four and a quarter turns to uncap it.

JetPens has Diamine Forever inks in stock and they're the first I've seen with a good comparison swatch (attached, be sure to click to embiggen and see them all). Also lots of water resistance test results, which look great.

Cherry Red and Tiger Lily are close but Cherry Red leans pink-ish while Tiger Lily leans Orange-ish.

Still not sure which I might want, but at least this will make deciding easier.

Last week I ordered a #FountainPen from #JetPens in California and opted for the cheapest shipping which was #USPS. Now I'm being entertained by watching the tracking number as the parcel travels around the country, apparently unsure where it should go.

I live in Indiana, and it went from California, to New Jersey, to Indiana, and is now in Pennsylvania. Can't wait to see where it goes next.

I have done a lot of half-pan filling over the years and used so many different pens to mark them, and these Pilot Twin Markers are the BEST. They’re so nice. They have an alcohol and oil-based ink and they mark anything. They have two tips, and the smaller one is perfect for teeny writing like on these leetle pans. I buy mine at jetpens.com.

W00t! I was able to order my cat #Hobonichi #HON book from #Jetpens. I did it from my phone because we were out on a walk and weren’t back home yet. 😆

Another beginner #FountainPen question: I've got a Pilot Metropolitan (or will once my #jetpens order finally gets here). Can one easily switch between ink cartridges once they've been started (say, to switch colors/inks), or will the cartridge just make a mess everywhere and dry out if you uninstall it before it's empty? Thanks!

Sometime today a little package arrives from #JetPens that contains 6 or 7 ink cartridges for my new pen. The inks are all purple. 💜 My exciting plans for the evening involve sitting with this pile 'o pen cartridges, loading each one and trying them out on different paper and deciding which purple ink is The Best, while also watching Star Trek TNG (on Season 4 now). I could make some cocoa too! Oh wow. Cocoa, Picard, and discovering the perfect purple ink cartridge! WHAT A NIGHT!

Seriously just the idea that I can go to a well-organized website with an intuitive interface and search for pen refills as specific as blue or purple or turquoise ink, ballpoint, tip size .5 or .7mm, conical, oil-based ink……it’s just…..the most wonderful and pen-nerdiest thing and it makes me so goofily happy, thank you everyone at JetPens for giving me such joy.

Hoo hoo my fellow stationary/journal nerds, I just spotted Jennifer Garner using the passport sized Traveler's notebook on the show The Last Thing He Told Me. I've never seen one on a TV show before. She had it set up right, too!

I rarely shared these little goofy things I nerd out on before I got to Mastodon. No one is ever interested. But I'm hoping there's at least one other Traveler's notebook fan on Mastodon somewhere.

I finally got my #JetPens order, including an A6 #Hobonichi #notebook and I really didn't realize how small A6 size is! I'm...not sure what I'll do with it, but I'll figure something out. I'm glad I didn't switch to that size for my regular journal; I think it'd be too small. Right now I'm enjoying journaling in my A5 Hobonichi notebook.

Also, every day I'm sad we don't have a #JetPens equivalent in Europe. I love them but the shipping values are tragic
