Capitolo 418: A House of Cinema

Novembre. Le temperature si abbassano. Plaid, divano, pantofole torna ad essere il tridente ideale del mio schieramento autunnale, periodo florido per quanto riguarda le visioni casalinghe. Tutti i film di questo capitolo infatti li ho visti tra le mura di casa, tranne Bugonia, che invece ho visto in quell’altra “casa” del Cinema Troisi alle 13.30, orario per me comodissimo in quel dato giorno, un’offerta che non propone nessun’altra sala a Roma (e forse in Italia). Come dico sempre: quanto mi sarebbe piaciuto avere il Cinema Troisi nei miei anni da studente, con le sale studio aperte 24 ore su 24 e una programmazione spettacolare che alterna, dalla mattina alla sera, film usciti ora con classici del passato (tutto rigorosamente in versione originale). Quanto mi piace andare al cinema tra quelle mura. Dopo questo endorsement al Troisi, di cui evidentemente non hanno bisogno, passiamo a parlare dei film di questa settimana.

Splash – Una Sirena a Manhattan (1984): Terzo film da regista per Ron Howard, praticamente una sorta di versione romantica di ET, solo che al posto dell’extraterrestre c’è una sirena e al posto del ragazzino adolescente c’è Tom Hanks che vuole andarci a letto. Nel 1984 Daryl Hannah (la sirena) aveva da poco interpretato la replicante in Blade Runner, Tom Hanks invece aveva alle spalle un solo film da protagonista (Bachelor Party, me lo voglio vedere!). In breve: Hanks cade in acqua, viene salvato da una donna bellissima, i due si innamorano, lei però è una sirena (quando entra a contatto con l’acqua le gambe si trasformano in coda di pesce). Ovviamente quando la cosa diventa di dominio pubblico, lei sarà inseguita da militari e scienziati che la vogliono studiare (tra cui inizialmente anche Eugene Levy, il padre di American Pie). Carino, c’è anche un ottimo John Candy (che ha le battute più divertenti), ma al di là del male gaze per una Daryl Hannah mozzafiato non resta molto altro.

A House of Dynamite (2025): Kathryn Bigelow realizza l’incontro ideale tra il Dr Stranamore e WarGames, senza però la spassosa ironia del primo né l’avventura adolescenziale del secondo. Il film si svolge in 19 fatali minuti, dilatati però in due ore per mezzo del cosiddetto effetto Rashomon, che ormai va moltissimo di moda (ovvero raccontare una stessa storia attraverso il punto di vista di diversi personaggi). Un giorno come un altro, una testata nucleare è in viaggio verso gli Stati Uniti da un Paese non chiaramente identificato: in meno di 20 minuti potrebbe raggiungere una città e sterminare dieci milioni di persone. L’emergenza ovviamente è totale, dal Pentagono fino al Presidente sono tutti impegnati a capire come fermare questo missile, come rispondere, come comportarsi. Lo scenario, non così distopico come si può pensare, è spaventoso, e la storia regge, nonostante qualche calo di tono nella parte centrale. Lo trovate su Netflix e, al di là di tutto, è un bel film.

Good Boy (2025): Tra tanti attori cani, finalmente un bravissimo cane attore (forse l’unica cosa davvero bella del film, oltre all’idea alla base). Un uomo, in compagnia del suo bellissimo retriever, si trasferisce nella casa di campagna dove il nonno è morto in circostanze misteriose. Il film è visto esclusivamente attraverso il punto di vista del cane, Indy, l’unico ad avvertire una presenza maligna all’interno della tenuta. La storia è un po’ ripetitiva e neanche particolarmente coinvolgente, ma potrebbe però rivelarsi un’enorme metafora. In effetti, dopo aver letto qualche recensione in giro mi domando: ma solo io ho visto la presenza maligna come appunto una metafora di una malattia terminale? Questo darebbe senso a tutto il carrozzone. A ogni modo, Indy è davvero strepitoso, muori dalla voglia di rassicurarlo e abbracciarlo, il resto invece gira intorno a parecchi cliché. Idea strepitosa, forse un po’ sprecata.

Bugonia (2025): Remake di un film sudcoreano del 2003 (Save The Green Planet! film d’esordio di Jang Joon-hwan), sembra il pane giusto per i denti di Yorgos Lanthimos, uno che con l’assurdo e il grottesco ci mangia a colazione. Emma Stone, una delle donne più potenti del mondo e capo di un colosso farmaceutico, viene rapita da due goffi e idioti cugini, convinti che la donna faccia parte di un piano alieno per distruggere la Terra. Tra torture e conversazioni grottesche, la storia scorre che è un piacere, diverte, non ha tempi morti e gode di due interpretazioni incredibili. Questo per dire che mi è piaciuto, è principalmente un film di intrattenimento dietro al quale c’è una riflessione non banale sul potere e soprattutto sulla società in cui viviamo. Emma Stone è stupenda anche senza capelli e, neanche a dirlo, è come sempre strepitosa, nei piccoli dettagli dell’interpretazione, nelle sfumature del viso, nei gesti. Jesse Plemons è talmente bravo a fare come al solito il pazzo che cominci a pensare che sia davvero questa la sua comfort zone. Non è un film incredibile, ma ha tutte le carte in regola per farti trascorrere un paio d’ore di ottimo cinema. Bello!

Opera (1987): Quando vidi da bambino questo film di Dario Argento, ricordo che rimasi abbastanza terrorizzato da quegli spilli che l’assassino poneva sotto le palpebre della protagonista per obbligarla a vedere i suoi omicidi. Quasi quarant’anni dopo resta una delle trovate più interessanti del film, oltre all’uso dei corvi e a un bellissimo utilizzo della steadycam. Non c’è molto altro, purtroppo, nella storia di questa compagnia d’opera lirica intenta a mettere in scena il Macbeth di Verdi, mentre viene presa di mira da un assassino che sta decimando la crew. Ovviamente con alcuni omicidi sul groppone lo spettacolo va comunque avanti, non sia mai. Nella fiera dell’incongruenza e della scarsa attinenza alla realtà, si salvano davvero solo alcune trovate registiche, che ricordano l’Argento del decennio precedente. Se alcuni film invecchiano male, questo sembra avere tipo 200 anni e, cosa peggiore, sembra scritto da un ragazzino alle prime armi. Lo potete vedere su Prime, se proprio ci tenete.
