The ONLY important number is #Debian-#PopCon. Of course 🙂
Last year, when I checked, there were 1053 installations of Matrix clients (most of them nheko) and 3124 of #Jabber clients (top 3: #Gajim, #Psi, and #Dino).
Also, 119 Matrix server installs (synapse) and 904 #XMPP servers (most were #prosody, then #ejabberd).

I see in your profile, that you are interested in #Jabber and #Meshtastic and #NNTP. Are you aware of any attempts to combine either #XMPP with Meshtastic (more likely?) or XMPP with NNTP (very unlikely?). Maybe you know some online resources on the topic?
I'm curious about #serverless XMPP and used to use it many years ago (#Gajim by @gajim with #Avahi). Nowadays @Goffi seems to push it on the agenda again, with #Libervia:

Zwar schon an die Meisten User allerdings gibt es den einen oder anderen, der den Schlüssel für diese Gruppe nicht empfangen hat. Ну ладно, в #Gajim еще можно поковыряться и сделать подобие папок, в которые раскидать чаты по аккаунтам (нет, не те папки, которые сохраняются на сервере, но хотя бы как-то).
А в #Conversations как быть? Там же просто вообще все чаты, личные и групповые, просто свалены в одну кучу, и если у тебя один и тот же контакт добавлен в два твоих аккаунта — выглядит абсолютно одинаково 🤯

The top process on my idle system is #gajim
Constant 5% CPU load. Even browsers take less.
RSS: 258M. Yes, two hundreds fifty eight mega fucking bytes!
Five users. The only active is robot that receives monitoring messages. Another twos are my own smartphones. The remaining couple live users are unreachable thanks to shitty mobile clients.
I no longer have any desire to fix anything.
#xmpp is useless for me and I have to say goodbye.
