As I wanted to contact Matto I've added my #jabber account to my mastodon profile and installed the #cheogram Android client.
Although #deltachat ils a cool idea it doesn't seem to be used by anyone. -

Other (interoperable!) XMPP clients, such as Cheogram, allow for moderation of individual messages in groups, though the disappeared messages may not disappear from all clients that have already received them. -

you can self-host #chatmail or #xmpp server for those chat apps, and thereby self-host the app running inside them.
#deltachat allows pinning apps to your launcher on #android.

Am I doing something wrong, or if somebody is in a XMPP group chat while not having any encrypted devices Cheogram (and possibly Conversations as well) won't allow you to send OMEMO encrypted messages to the entire group, since you won't be able to get past the Trust OMEMO Fingerprints screen?

@ity #webxdc is a shared spec and joint impelemntation with eg #cheogram and #monocles ... It has nothing to do with proton. Webxdc apps are shared in a chat and run inside the messenger. Proton does not have a messenger. Webxdc apps work on all platforms that #webxdc messengers are released for, including @deltatouch , an Ubuntu based phone. DeltaTouch runs all webxdc apps including the realtime p2p ones. @lk108 is doing an incredible job :)

Hey #fedifriends for my personal business rather than buy another phone and another sim I decided to try out #jmpchat and I was really impressed.
I got a phone number, it works through their app: #cheogram, I messed up at the beginning but you can reach them through the same app I fixed everything in minutes.
It receive and make calls out of the box through #xmpp their service is based on #opensource software.
I must thanks Noa of #aksnoa show cause I heard about it on his podcast, and he was right.
You get a second number for $5 monthly, it uses your carrier data and nowadays all the majorities of the plan offer unlimited data, it is more convenient than a real second line.
Even though my new number is not ringing yet, I'd like the idea that you can turn off the service at your please.
The only limitation, but I consider a feature, is you cannot use that number with other famous messagging apps because they require a real sim number, hower cheogram is well integrated into #android and if I am able to convince my prospect customers to get an xmpp account we could do more like videoconferencing etc...

Domanda delle 21:40 qualcuno usa giornalmente il protocollo #xmpp ? Che client usate? Per android vedo che fanno un po tutti abbastanza pena forse si salva #monocles, come funzionano le integrazioni come chiamate video chiamate sticker ecc.. Su che server vi siete registrati e perchè? (Ho un account #disroot ma non riesco a collegarlo su altre app ho un vecchio collegameto solo su #cheogram ma se provo a fare il login su altre app non va 🤔) continua....

@samuel yes! You mean emoji reactions right? #Conversations (the "flagship' Android client so to speak) added support for them recently
#Quicksy as well as downstream clients like #Cheogram and #Monocles should be having it too (I believe Monocles actually implemented support before Conversations did)

@rysiek @kkarhan @agturcz An awful lot of people say they've used #XMPP "a while back". But they're often unaware of the best of XMPP, and have an unfairly negative view of it.

@Samsy @arbocenc #XMPP can run bridges (called "Transports" or "Gateways" in XMPP terms) since the early ages. And nowadays, there are modern ones with tight integrations: #Slidge being a flagship (including a #Matrix gateway), and I'm myself working on ActivityPub gateway and soon a email one with #Libervia. #Cheogram is also working on SMTP gateway. And #Biboumi is the flagship #IRC gateway.
