I reported the issue on the Codeberg repository and Arne got back to me super quick with:
"Hi, thanks for the details! It's just fixed with c3d37d7f18
The problem was conversations.im was set as secure domain but doesn't support DANE at moment. The update should come very soon." -

Just updated to monocles chat version 2.2.1 on my tablet. Two of my accounts (on quicksy.im) connect fine, but my conversations.im one consistently fails with "TLS negotiation failed".
My settings have not changed.
The same account is able to log in OK on my phone with the same credentials using monocles chat version 2.1.6 so this seems specific to the latest update.

Por la diversidad de instancias no siempre camina todo bien o se entiende cómo funciona de entrada. Aprendemos sobre la marcha, así que la sala es para ayuda mutua e intercambios sobre estos temas.

Today, the next release of monocles chat is finally ready and published, and will be available in stores in the next few days. It is a huge update with three fundamental new features:
Stories, Feeds, and Phone log.
In addition to many other improvements and features such as account sorting and improved message deletion, this update also brings new support for multiple XEPs. Thanks to the standardization of XMPP, it is now possible to interact socially with other XMPP platforms and messengers. The new features bring more functions that are fully compatible with the XMPP web platform @movim Create your stories today or make a post for your contacts in monocles chat or Movim. -

If it's easier, why isn't it as successful and used by the military etc? You seem to have dismissed video calls etc too. You could argue against that functionality for certain use cases, but it's become a core part of secure messaging over time. Maybe they just have different audiences.
I kind of agree on Moxie's reliance on Intel SGX though. Even at its inception it worried me. But it's not part of the core E2EE protocol so could potentially be replaced.

Did you know monocles chat supports pinned messages? You can pin multiple messages, stacked so the most recent appears on top. In the next release you’ll also be able to jump straight to a pinned message’s location in the conversation and also pin images and files.
- Pinned messages stay visible and are easy to find later.

- Save frequently used links, instructions, images or files. -
