Redstart update: the fledglings have settled in the shrubs across the garden. It's dense enough so that we could no longer see them, but the non-stop calls of the parents told us something is going on, and we saw them bringing food, so that's a good sign. One was brave enough to explore the garden a bit more :)

One of my buddies tipped me about a location where 5 #juvenile #kestrels were preparing to leave their nest box only a small detour from the polder I went to visit this morning. Some were stretching their wings, a few others where just sitting in the grass. 🪶 #birds #birdphotography #fledglings #falco #tinnunculus #DutchNature #Putten #birdsofprey #falcons #takentoday

One of four young Green Herons we saw at #LakeApopka. Feathered in a mix of downy fledgling and juvenile plumage, they were perched together in a #marsh shrub at the edge of the loop road. @CTGT got a couple great shots of several of them together that I’m sure he will post soon.

This cardinal fledgling it’s not picked the greatest place to land. But I scared it to a better spot than the bush It was originally in which was way too easily accessible by the outdoor cats that wander this area. (it fluttered from here to a Japanese maple tree nearby.)

One reason I feed #birds year round is because I love to watch them bring their #fledglings to the #feeders. Here's a male #redbelliedwoodpecker feeding his baby boy on a tree next to the feeder. And a female #downywoodpecker feeding her baby boy, and then a picture of the baby having a go at the feeder himself. And finally, a female #pileatedwoodpecker who brought her boy and girl to the feeder and fed them on the deck railing. #birding #birdsofmastodon #nature #photography
