  6. Iška Moor - Iški morost - is a strict nature reserve in the middle of the Ljubljana Marshes landscape park, a home for many rare and endangered birds, butterflies, dragonflies, and plants.

Iška Moor is an amazing place, well worth a visit - but only a kite can see it in all its glory ... ;-)

  11. The Bayou

This is a photo of a quiet waterway in the bayous of Sabine National Wildlife Refuge in Louisiana, USA. A tranquil channel of water reflects the soft blue sky and scattered white clouds above. Tall, dense stands of golden‑brown reeds and grasses rise on both sides of the channel, reaching upward like weathered sentinels. In the far distance, the scene tapers toward a line of trees that marks the edge of the marsh.

My photo gallery features over 1700 carefully selected images. While most are chosen for their visual appeal, a few stand out as novelty shots. Feel free to explore my gallery at:

  12. In the marshes of NE US. I have never seen this bird in these parts. It is ID'd as a Yellow-crowned Night Heron. Can anyone confirm?

  15. #Webinar - #Marsh and #Stream Explorers: A Treasure Hunt to Find Healthy Freshwater #Habitats in #Maine

    Apr 22 2026
    7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

"Curious about what critters live in your local streams and freshwater marshes? Come learn about Maine Marsh and Stream Explorers, a collaborative #CommunityScience project between #MaineAudubon and the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (#MEDEP). This program trains volunteers to survey for #macroinvertebrates, or large #AquaticInsects, in streams and freshwater #marshes statewide. With many macroinvertebrates sensitive to temperature, #pollutants, and other environmental stressors, their presence or absence serve as an important indicator of overall wetland health. This data then becomes an invaluable screening tool for #MaineDEP to prioritize where more-indepth water quality assessments should be conducted.

"In this webinar you’ll learn about what the Marsh and Stream Explorers project has accomplished and its impact on water quality monitoring statewide. We’ll look at our overall results, share our successes, and talk about future goals of the project. If you’re interested in getting outdoors, learning something new, and protecting your local watershed, this community science project is for you! Come learn more about how you can get involved. In-person field training for survey techniques to follow."

Honor World Wetlands Day with a Charleston marsh cleanup

    by Claudia Landis
Wed, January 28, 2026 at 10:28 AM EST

#CharlestonSC (WCBD) – "A #marsh cleanup event is planned on World Wetlands Day in Downtown Charleston.

"The #CharlestonWaterkeeper, #KeepCharlestonBeautiful, and #TheMarshProject are hosting a cleanup near Waterfront Park in Downtown Charleston and are seeking volunteers.

"Volunteers will pick up litter from one of the city’s beloved marsh fronts. Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes and comfortable clothing that can get dirty.

"Spaces are limited, so interested volunteers are encouraged to sign up here.

"Feb. 2 is World Wetlands Day, a fitting moment for Charleston Waterkeeper to celebrate, as about 40% of Charleston is considered a wetland ecosystem, the group says on a recent Facebook post.

"The group also says marshes are vital. They provide #habitat, stabilize #shorelines, and protect us from #StormSurges. Cleanups help keep these #ecosystems resilient and protect all residents."
