  1. The sparrowhawk has returned. Appeared yesterday on the bird feeder. The sound of garden birds is in mute mode. They visit but they know this predator is around so they do so as quietly as possible. #GardenBirds #Garden

  2. 67% decline in greenfinches. RSPB advice to stop leaving nuts/hard seeds during the summer months.

  3. In #birdfeedernews today, I'm guessing the Jackdaws have hungry youngsters to feed, they now raid our feeders like kids scrumping apples. Are they going to be the first youngsters to visit this year? #gardenbirds #BTO #birdfeeders #gardenbirdwatch

It appears to me that the most obvious "feeding up" going on at our feeders involves the Jackdaws, they live in tree to our left and I'm certain they see me go out and fill up 🤣 anyway, they are currently collaborating at the suet feeder

  11. It's been lovely and sunny today, and some great tits were hanging around just outside my window tweeting away most of the day.

#tuingelukjes #gardenbirds

  14. Our cat has a hobby - watching the mice at the base of our bird feeder. She's got no interest in the birds, just the mouse family. Occasionally she'll bring one home to play with, until it dies (maybe of boredom or exhaustion?).

I've just moved the bird feeder because I've seen a mouse running up the feeder pole to get to the seed - and I consider that to be cheating.
It's going to confuse Kit the Cat but it can't be helped.

And when these seed feeders are empty I'm not refilling them in line with the RSPB advice, just the fat balls.

  15. Long-tailed tit (Aegithalos caudatus) with nesting material in my garden. Makes its nest from lichen, moss, and hairs. Nice to have in the garden ☺️ @[email protected] @[email protected] #gardenbirds #nature #birds

  16. Every now and then I get around taking photos of birds in my in-law‘s garden. Two weeks ago I managed to catch this eurasian tree sparrow during his short stop-over near a feeder. I was told it‘s too cold and windy to sit outside and wait for birds. But that was exactly my point: The best opportunities arise during early spring or late fall. When it’s still too cold for people to be active in their backyards they aren‘t scaring birds away either!

  17. There was a very handsome pair of house sparrows on top of the empty feeder when I stepped outside to change it for cleaning earlier. The smile it put on my face is still persistently returning. :-)

  18. On #birdfeedernews this week, we are inundated by Siskins! No bad thing and they're squabbling with the Goldfinches, also no bad thing but, eating through a small fortune 😆 #photography #birdphotography #naturephotography #gardenbirds #scotland #perthandKinross

  19. We have a mischief of magpies close by. I see them quite often holding meetings or group therapy on the various rooftops around about and visiting the non hanging bird table.
I still count them off, in my head via the old Magpie them tune.
