Did a nice 3.5km in the arboretum this afternoon and saw kōwhai trees from New Zealand, Queensland bottle trees, and what might be African lovegrass but I’m hoping is really kangaroo grass. If anyone can identify this for me, I’d be most grateful.
Oh, and there was a kite festival going on, which we stayed well away from because crowds :blobcatfearful:

The Cellon Live Oak
"The Cellon Live Oak is a Florida Co-Champion Live Oak named for its former owner, Ralph W. Cellon. The oak's circumference is 30 feet, it is 85 feet tall and its crown spread is 160 feet."
It has an 80 foot horizontal "spider" trunk that lays on the ground creating a natural pergola. There's even a picnic table amidst the branches! (not shown) In the past dozen years or so this amazing limb was cracked (over my shoulder to the left in photo) and is now supported by large poles. Amazingly after such an injury it remains very much alive! 🙂

Can't figure out how you guys photo an oak tree, this one is 15 feet in girth and if I stand back to get the whole tree in the picture, it doesn't look like such a much so what's the secret? We have a tree of 39 feet girth in our area... so it's a problem I'd like to solve!
