Fina i tot, són bastant perillosos.

#EssentialOils to Avoid Using Around Your Dog

    By Organic Aromas
    December 24, 2023

    - Exercise caution when using essential oils around pets to avoid toxicity and health risks.

    - Certain essential oils such as tea tree oil, cinnamon, citrus oils, wintergreen and sweet birch are harmful to dogs and should be avoided.

    - Consult a veterinarian before use for safe practices with alternative non-toxic remedies available.

"Certain essential oils can pose risks to dogs, causing skin irritation, respiratory issues, and even toxicity if ingested or applied topically. Used improperly, some essential oils may cause changes in behavior, adverse central nervous system effects, and respiratory difficulties. Being cautious and knowledgeable about the potential hazards linked to essential oils for your dog is necessary.

Dr. Janet Roark, a veterinarian, emphasizes the importance of safety guidelines when using essential oils around pets. Cats, for example, are significantly more sensitive to the effects of essential oils than dogs, including rosemary essential oil. The same caution should be exercised when using essential oils around dogs, as they can also experience negative effects."

DIY Natural Essential Oil Tick Repellent

    By Erika in Essential Oils

"Ticks can be a real issue when you’re enjoying the great outdoors. But why rely on chemical-filled repellents when you can make a natural alternative at home? In this post, I’ll show you how to create your own natural tick repellent spray as well as a handy roll-on that fits easily in your pocket.

Essential Oil Tick Repellent Spray Ingredients

This simple DIY combines all 4 powerhouse oils for an ultra-effective spray! Here’s what you’ll need:

    - 4 oz (or larger) spray bottle
    - apple cider vinegar
    - water (distilled, filtered, or spring water is best)
    - geranium essential oil
    - cedarwood essential oil
    - citronella essential oil
    - lemongrass essential oil

You can also make a roll-on bottle. You’ll need 10ml glass roller bottles for that.

You may have noticed that this recipe does not recommend a carrier oil, like fractionated coconut oil like many other essential oil recipes do. I wanted to be able to spray this on my children’s clothes, socks, shoes, etc., without worrying about oil stains.

How to Make a Natural Tick Repellent Spray

First, fill your spray bottle about 1/3 of the way with apple cider vinegar. You don’t have to measure or be exact. Apple cider vinegar may help keep mosquitoes away too so that is an added benefit!

I recommend using 30-40 drops total of essential oils for a 4oz spray bottle. This amount has worked well to keep the ticks away for my family.

Add 10 drops each geranium, cedarwood, citronella, and lemongrass essential oils.
adding drops of best essential oils for tick repellent

Fill the rest of the bottle with water. That’s it!"

ASPCA List of Toxic #EssentialOils for Cats You Should Avoid

    Author Becky Murray

    Posted Aug 20, 2025

Excerpt: "If you're a cat owner who loves aromatherapy, be aware that some essential oils can be toxic to your feline friends. The ASPCA has a list of oils to avoid, and it's essential to check it out.

Peppermint oil is one of the oils on the list, and it can cause vomiting and diarrhea in cats if ingested.

Some oils, like tea tree oil, can cause more severe symptoms, including tremors, seizures, and even liver failure in cats.

Eucalyptus oil is another oil to steer clear of, as it can cause respiratory problems and other issues in cats.

Other common toxic essential oils to cats and dogs include cinnamon, citrus, clove, peppermint, sweet birch, thyme, and YlangYlang.

If your pet comes into contact with any of these oils, immediately contact your vet, the ASPCA Poison Control Center, or visit the nearest veterinary emergency hospital.

Some essential oils that are particularly toxic to cats include:

Lavender oil (especially toxic to cats)
Oregano oil (especially toxic to cats)
    Pine oil
    Sweet Birch oil
    Tea Tree oil
    Thyme oil
    Wintergreen oil
    Ylang Ylang oil

Remember, even if an essential oil is natural, it's not inherently safe for your cat. Always keep essential oils out of reach of your pets and consult with your veterinarian if you're unsure about the safety of any product."

  7. How Do I Start? Resources for New Witches: A Step-by-Step Guide

Welcome, curious soul, to the path of witchcraft! If you’re feeling drawn to the ancient wisdom, the power of nature, and the magic within, you’ve come to the right place. The journey into witchcraft is deeply personal and incredibly rewarding. Here at Pagan Essentials, we’re thrilled to offer you a starting point. Let’s dive in!

Step 1: Embrace Curiosity and Research

The very first step on any magical path is to simply explore. There’s no single “right” way to be a witch, and the vastness of traditions and practices can be exciting!

    • Read, Read, Read: Immerse yourself in different perspectives. Start with general introductions to witchcraft, then delve into specific traditions that pique your interest, such as Wicca, Traditional Witchcraft, Green Witchcraft, or Chaos Magic.
    • Listen and Learn: Podcasts, documentaries, and reputable online articles can be excellent resources.
    • Keep a Journal: As you explore, jot down your thoughts, feelings, and any concepts that resonate with you. This will become an invaluable tool on your journey.

    Recommended Books for Beginners:

    • ”Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner” by Scott Cunningham (a classic, though focused on Wicca)
    • ”Psychic Witch: A Metaphysical Guide to Meditation, Magick & Manifestation” by Mat Auryn
    • ”Protection & Reversal Magick” by Jason Miller
    • ”The Inner Temple of Witchcraft” by Christopher Penczak (comprehensive and great for structured learning)

Step 2: Foundational Practices – Grounding & Meditation

Before you cast a single spell or invoke a deity, mastering grounding and meditation is crucial. These practices will help you center yourself, manage your energy, and connect with your inner wisdom.

    • Grounding: Think of grounding as rooting yourself to the Earth, like a tree. It helps dissipate excess energy, brings you into the present moment, and provides stability. There are many techniques, but a simple one is to visualize roots extending from the soles of your feet deep into the Earth, drawing up its calm, stable energy.
    • Meditation: This isn’t about emptying your mind, but rather observing your thoughts without judgment and focusing your awareness. Start with just 5-10 minutes a day, focusing on your breath. Meditation enhances intuition, concentration, and psychic abilities – all vital for magical work.

Step 3: Ethical Considerations – The Witch’s Code

Magic is powerful, and with great power comes great responsibility. Before engaging in any spell work, it’s essential to consider the ethical implications.

    • The Threefold Law/Rule of Return: Many traditions adhere to the idea that whatever energy you send out (positive or negative) will return to you threefold. While not universally adopted, it’s a valuable reminder to act with intention and integrity.
    • Do No Harm: This is a fundamental principle for many witches. Consider the potential impact of your actions on yourself, others, and the environment.
    • Consent: Never attempt to influence someone’s free will without their explicit consent. This includes love spells, mind manipulation, or any form of coercive magic.
    • Personal Responsibility: You are accountable for your magic. Take time to reflect on your intentions and the potential consequences of your workings.

Step 4: Basic Supplies (Optional, But Helpful!)

You don’t need anything to be a witch – your most potent tools are your mind and spirit. However, certain items can enhance your practice and create a sacred atmosphere.

    • Journal/Book of Shadows: A place to record your spells, rituals, dreams, and magical insights.
    • Candles: Different colors correspond to different intentions (e.g., white for purity, green for prosperity, red for passion).
    • Incense/Herbs: For cleansing, offering, or setting the mood. Sage, palo santo, and frankincense are popular choices.
    • Salt: A powerful purifier and protector.
    • Wand or Athame: (Optional) These are tools to direct energy, not for cutting. A simple stick found in nature can serve as a powerful wand!
    • Altar Space: A dedicated area, no matter how small, to honor your practice. It can hold your tools, natural items, and representations of what you hold sacred.
    • Crystals: Each crystal carries unique energetic properties. Start with clear quartz, amethyst, or rose quartz for general purposes.

    ____________________________

    ⭐ The Ritual ⭐

     🌈 Casting the Circle:

If you typically cast a circle, do so now, invoking the elements and guardians.

     🌈 Invocation:

Light your candles and incense. Stand before your altar and say:

“Ostara, Goddess of Dawn and Spring, we welcome your light. The Earth awakens, and so do we. We gather here, at the point of perfect balance, to honor the return of life and the blooming of potential.”

     🌈 Honoring the Equinox:

Take a moment to feel the balance of light and dark. Close your eyes and visualize the sun rising, bringing warmth and vitality to the Earth. Say:

“Day and night are equal, a moment of perfect harmony. We honor the balance within and without, the dance of light and shadow, and the promise of growth.”

🌈 Planting the Seeds of Intention:

Take the pot of soil and the seeds. As you hold the seeds, visualize your intentions for the coming season. What do you wish to cultivate in your life? Speak your intentions aloud, infusing the seeds with your energy.

“These seeds represent the potential within me. I plant them with intention, nurturing my dreams and aspirations. May they grow strong and vibrant, bringing forth the fruits of my labor.”

Plant the seeds in the soil.

🌈 Blessing the Seeds and Water:

Hold the bowl of spring water over the planted seeds. Say:

“Water of life, nourish these seeds of intention. May they be blessed with growth, vitality, and abundance.”

Sprinkle the water over the soil.

     🌈 Meditation and Visualization:

Sit or stand comfortably. Close your eyes and visualize your intentions taking root and flourishing. See them growing into vibrant manifestations of your desires. Feel the warmth of the sun and the gentle breeze of spring.

     🌈 Offering to Ostara:

Offer a small gift to Ostara, such as flowers, a decorated egg, or a poem. Say:

“Ostara, we thank you for the gifts of spring. We offer our gratitude and respect, and we celebrate the renewal of life.”

     🌈 Grounding:

Take a few deep breaths, grounding yourself in the present moment. Feel the connection to the Earth and the energy of spring.

     🌈 Releasing the Circle:

If you cast a circle, release it now, thanking the elements and guardians.

     🌈 Closing:

Extinguish the candles and incense. Place the pot of seeds in a sunny location and water them regularly, nurturing your intentions as they grow.

    🌈 Reflection:

After the ritual, take some time to journal about your experience. Reflect on your intentions and how you plan to nurture them throughout the spring and summer. This ritual is a powerful way to connect with the energies of Ostara and to embrace the potential for growth within yourself. May your spring be filled with joy, abundance, and renewal.

    Blessed Be!
