  6. What's in my bike bag? Lunch, water, and TWO alternators for a classic VW Beetle. I keep screwing up the installation. According to Cascade it's "Bike everywhere month", so I guess it's fitting.

  10. A cute lady #beetle for #insektenSamstag !
It's a genus I had not seen/known before, Henosepilachna. Species in this genus are phytophagous, unlike the most commonly seen lady beetles. I think they're also a bit cuter.

  14. The dung beetle Onthophagus coenobita in Hedgemead Park in #Bath yesterday. Usually found on herbivore dung, but occasionally on carrion and decaying fungi. Might have flown in from the surrounding countryside. Males (like this one) have a prominent horn arising from the back of the head.

  19. Not a moth, so this one gets a post all on its own.

    Nicrophorus humator
    Sort ådselgraver
    Black Sexton beetle

Caught while mothing in my mum's garden.
For a burying beetle, this one was surprisingly docile.

  22. Scientists uncover #beetle transport system for newly identified towering nematodes phys.org/news/2026-05-scientis paper: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10

"In 2025, #Konstanz scientists looked very closely at rotting fruit in local orchards, and observed what no one had before–hundreds of #worms twisting skyward into self-assembled living towers... #nematodes may be trying to hitchhike on #animals to reach new habitats... Now, they identified the carriers of the original worm towers: two sap-feeding #beetles"

  23. I was looking around the garden and noticed this interesting #Beetle on the #AppleTree. It was about the size of a #Ladybird but #IridescentBlue. I went back inside, changed the the #Lens to a #MacroLens and it was still there and so I was able to #Photograph it.

  24. This 22 spot ladybird (Psyllobora vigintiduopunctata) was dragging a sticky anther around with it. Not a great camouflage.
