  1. Four-spotted orb-weaver (Araneus quadratus) resting in its web among branches. This species is one of the larger orb-weavers found in Europe, with coloration that varies noticeably between individuals. Active mainly in summer and early autumn.

  2. #ArtRepostJuly Day 28: Environment

Kinda a stretch but here's a little game project I made. And when I say "I made" I mean pretty much everything; the models, the rigs, the textures, the animations, the sound effects, the code, the environment for the spider to play in...

  3. Why You Should Never Kill Spiders In Your Home, According To An Entomologist

Getty Images/iStockphoto I know it may be hard to convince you, but let me try: Don’t kill the next spider you see in your home. Why? Because spiders are an important part of nature and our indoor ecosystem – as well as being fellow organisms in their own right. People like to think of their dwellings as safely insulated from the outside world, but many types of spiders can be found inside. Some are accidentally trapped, while others are short-term visitors. Some species even enjoy the […]

  4. 3 screenshots of info about the Desert recluse spider I found this morning. Eeek! FYI I had a week off work after an ER trip for a spider bite in Iowa. Very large necrotic lesion on the top of my foot. Epi-pen now moved to front of cupboard. #Spider #Arachnid #Phoenix #iPhone

  5. EDIT: only one guess made and Eric, you are right! I’m attaching the 3 info screenshots I gathered. I’m horrified! And very allergic to spider bites!

    Oh. My. Gosh!
While rinsing out something in the utility sink outside, I discovered this poor little spider drowned and dead in a small plastic tub I save for cleaning tasks outside. No idea what is is but I knew it was similar but different from a cellar spider, common here in Phoenix. #Spider #Arachnid #Phoenix #iPhone

Any guesses before I reveal what I learned for an ID of it? I was skeptical but son told me to use google images and google lens. Can’t believe the hits immediately were right. Even for a drowned spider upside down and geometrically folded up to a 3D star shape! Don’t use this image for a search like I did—will share later today the 3 screenshots I took of results.

  6. Eight eyes, zero chill. Spotted this fuzzy jumping spider (Salticidae) in Biebrza National Park, Poland, striking the perfect pose on a curled leaf. Nature's tiniest, most curious hunter.

  7. That could have been fun. Happened to check my crisp multipack to see how many were left instead of just sticking my hand in. Saw a spider! Decanted the bugger outside to realise it was a False Widow! Painful snackage averted! 😱🕷 #Spider #Arachnid #Wildlife #Nature

  8. 💁🏻‍♀️ TIL: 🕷️💨 The jungle #huntsman #spider from #Queensland reached 3.59 meters per second, doubling the previous #arachnid speed record.

Researchers at #Imperial College #London measured 162 #species across four #continents to study spider #locomotion. They found that longer legs relative to body size predict greater speed.

  9. Spiders are everywhere, playing their important part in the ecosystem. These two beauties inhabit a habitat that would seem hostile to small easily squashed creatures like these, the river gravels of the streams and rivers that drain from the Cheviot Hills eastward to the North Sea. They survive cattle/people scrunching around in the gravel and floods. They are both Wolf Spiders - hunting their prey. More info in alt text.

  10. Just look at this cute little woolly jumper, maybe a bit hot for them! A Jumping Spider on the bedroom wall, about 4mm long. It has two big eyes looking forward, with another two smaller ones at each side and another pair on top, presumably to watch out for low flying spider eaters. 11. 💁🏻‍♀️ TIL: 🕷️🕸️ Researchers from #Macquarie University discovered a new ballista #spider species in #Queensland’s #CapeYork #rainforest that builds a spring-loaded web snare targeting green tree #ants.

When an ant bites the cone, tension lines fire it into the web at 1,367 m/s² – roughly 140 G – making this the most power-dense biological catapult known. The spider’s use of pheromone-mimicking silk represents a #hunting strategy not seen before in any #arachnid.
