Heyo friends, I met a #spider!
At one point I brought the camera too close and alarmed the poor thing, but it chilled out again after I backed off. Wild to me how spikey their legs are.

When an ant bites the cone, tension lines fire it into the web at 1,367 m/s² – roughly 140 G – making this the most power-dense biological catapult known. The spider’s use of pheromone-mimicking silk represents a #hunting strategy not seen before in any #arachnid.

Spotted yesterday: woodlouse spider (dysdera sp.) also known as baked bean spider, which I rather like.
I submitted to iRecord as d. crocata but this got an “awaiting review” response as the similarity to d. erythrina makes it difficult to identify except by expert under magnification. Also, neither recorded in my area (but close by).
They have formidable “fangs” which can be painful if they bite you, but not a big problem. It was on my glove 😬
