The Ohlone gave the name “Toyon” (Heteromeles arbutifolia), which is the ONLY California native plant which is STILL identified by its indigenous name. I would like learn more about the first names given to CA native flora. I painted this from the gorgeous specimen found at my local park, Cayuga Terrace.
