  1. Japan should kick out US Military Bases!

    Japan has long tolerated crimes committed by American soldiers, stationed in Okinawa. Over the decades, American soldiers have committed a series of heinous crimes in Okinawa, including murder, rape of children and women, robberies and assaults. This is a recurring pattern, that the US military is unable to stop, despite their repeated apologies. Even though the US government may promise to put an end to these crimes against Japanese people, the fact is, that it cannot. US soldiers are posted in Okinawa on rotation, and every new batch comes with the same criminal risks.

    Japan should not accept these horrible crimes against Japanese citizens, as a known and acceptable cost of doing business with the USA. The USA is no longer a superpower, but an empire in decline. Japan doesn't have any real financial or political incentives for aligning with this very violent and dysfunctional nation, where the crime rate is high, and children are shot in schools all the time.

    Japan is at a crucial juncture and needs to make a decisive break with this abusive partner. Standing up to a bully is not easy, and it is advisable to form a broad coalition of many nations, that are collectively willing to throw American military bases out of their land.

    PM Takaichi would do well to heed the outraged cries of the Japanese people, and lead this initiative against the USA.

  2. Math.random() is not a key generator. Everyone knows this. And yet — when a widely deployed SM2 library seeded its key material at module load, that's effectively what happened. Except worse: in Node.js, the randomness pool was never even filled.

    This is the story of CVE-2026-73567, a vulnerability I reported and got credited for after independent reproduction by the maintainer, and what it teaches us about the whole class of weak-entropy key compromises.

    The discovery

    While auditing key-generation paths in SM2 (the Chinese national elliptic-curve standard, mandatory in regulated industries there), I noticed something odd in the dependency chain: a big-number library harvested entropy from Math.random() — the non-cryptographic, browser-grade PRNG — at module initialization, and used it to seed its internal state. That state then fed private-key generation.

    The publicly discussed impact assumed ~128 Math.random() calls at startup. When I built an instrumented Node victim and counted, the real number was zero. V8 defers Math.random()'s pool initialization in a way that left the seeding path reading predictable values — the effective root cause was a clock-only seed, and the advisory's root cause was corrected accordingly.

    The consequence: given roughly a millisecond-scale time window, private keys were recoverable by enumeration. Sub-second. On an ordinary laptop.

    And it didn't stop at static keys. The same RNG stream also fed signing nonces and ephemeral encryption keys. That means a key used only for signing was equally recoverable, and ciphertext from affected versions could be decrypted without the key.

    What happened next

    • The maintainer independently reproduced my findings, corrected the advisory's root-cause description, expanded the impact statement (nonces, ephemerals), and shipped a fix requiring caller-supplied CSPRNG.
    • My credit line — "Guigui Wang (Correctover)" — is now part of the public advisory.
    • Versions before the fix remain vulnerable forever. Every key generated by an unpatched build in a predictable-time window should be considered compromised.

    This is a class, not an incident

    One library got caught. But weak entropy is a systematic failure mode across the key-management stack:

    • V8's PRNG (Math.random(), xorshift128+ / MWC1616 eras) can be fully state-recovered from a handful of consecutive outputs — meaning any JS wallet or signing code that ever touches non-CSPRNG randomness is one observation away from compromise.
    • Historical events (Randstorm-class bugs, 2014-era wallet RNG flaws) show the same pattern repeating across ecosystems.
    • Cross-address clustering: weak-RNG victims often reuse exposed material across chains and address types, turning one bad key into a trail of them.
    • The SM2 ecosystem is structurally exposed here: guomi compliance pushes SM2 into places where the surrounding JS/Node key hygiene was never designed for it.

    If your product generates keys, signs, or encrypts — in JavaScript especially — the question isn't whether your crypto is strong. It's whether your entropy path is.

    What we do about it

    At Correctover we recover keys from weak entropy — to prove the exposure before someone malicious does, and to build evidence that holds up:

    • Black-box weak-entropy health checks on key generation and signing paths
    • Real recovery demonstrations in isolated environments, with signed, timestamped evidence receipts (Ed25519 + RFC 3161) — findings a court or auditor can verify without trusting us
    • Coordinated disclosure done right: the advisory process above is our reference case

    If you build wallets, custody, or exchange infrastructure and want your entropy path audited against this exact attack class, reach out: [email protected].

    Guigui Wang is the credited reporter of CVE-2026-73567 (GHSA-vh45-f885-3848). Correctover builds runtime verification and evidence infrastructure — receipts over promises.#security #cryptography #blockchain #web3 #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community

–sn–

  4. In practice, a PDF's page size often determines whether it prints cleanly, archives correctly, or embeds smoothly in another system. A report designed for A3 may need to be reduced to A4 for distribution, or scanned pages may need to be standardized to a custom size. Adjusting pages one by one is slow and error-prone; a Python script is a more reliable way to handle the job in batch.

    Free Spire.PDF for Python is a lightweight, capable tool for this task. It has a small footprint and a straightforward API, which makes it well-suited to page-level restructuring. Below, we cover several common ways to change PDF page size with it, from the underlying idea to working code.

    Prerequisites

    Install it with pip:

    pip install spire.pdf.free

    The free version limits the number of pages per document (usually to 10 or fewer), so it is best suited to small jobs and proofs of concept.

    Core Idea: Why You Can't Just "Change the Size"

    PDF page size (MediaBox) is technically an editable property, but changing it in place will throw off text and images that were laid out for the old dimensions. Content may become misaligned or even clipped. A more reliable approach is to rebuild each page:

    1. Load the original document and create a page template for each page, capturing a snapshot of all its content.
    2. Create a new document with blank pages at the target size.
    3. Draw the template onto the new page, using drawing coordinates and a scaling layout to fit the content.
    4. Save the new document and release resources.

    Free Spire.PDF's PdfPageBase.CreateTemplate() and PdfTemplate.Draw() are designed for exactly this workflow. The same logic works whether the target size is larger, smaller, or has a different aspect ratio.

    Scenario 1: Change to Standard Paper Sizes (A3, B4, Letter, etc.)

    Free Spire.PDF includes enums for common standard paper sizes, such as PdfPageSize.A3(), PdfPageSize.B4(), and PdfPageSize.Letter(). The following code converts every page of a PDF to B4:

    from spire.pdf.common import *
    from spire.pdf import *

    input_file = "source.pdf"
    output_file = "resized_b4.pdf"

    original_pdf = PdfDocument()
    original_pdf.LoadFromFile(input_file)

    new_pdf = PdfDocument()

    for i in range(original_pdf.Pages.Count):
    page = original_pdf.Pages.get_Item(i)

    # Create a new B4-sized page with zero margins to avoid extra whitespace
    new_page = new_pdf.Pages.Add(PdfPageSize.B4(), PdfMargins(0.0))

    # Key: set the text layout to OnePage so the original content is scaled
    # as a whole to fit the new page
    layout = PdfTextLayout()
    layout.Layout = PdfLayoutType.OnePage

    template = page.CreateTemplate()
    template.Draw(new_page, PointF.Empty(), layout)

    new_pdf.SaveToFile(output_file)
    new_pdf.Close()
    original_pdf.Close()

    The important setting here is PdfLayoutType.OnePage. Without it, content is drawn at its original scale, and anything beyond the new page bounds is clipped rather than automatically scaled. With it, the template is scaled to fit the available area of the new page, keeping the content fully visible.

    Scenario 2: Custom Sizes (Millimeters, Inches, or Any Other Unit)

    Real-world targets are rarely standard paper sizes. A print job might call for 200 mm × 280 mm, or a system might require pages to be 6 × 9 inches. Free Spire.PDF uses points (1 point = 1/72 inch). Use PdfUnitConvertor to convert physical units to points, then create a SizeF:

    from spire.pdf.common import *
    from spire.pdf import *

    input_file = "source.pdf"
    output_file = "custom_size.pdf"

    # Target size: 200 mm × 280 mm
    converter = PdfUnitConvertor()
    width_pt = converter.ConvertUnits(200, PdfGraphicsUnit.Millimeter, PdfGraphicsUnit.Point)
    height_pt = converter.ConvertUnits(280, PdfGraphicsUnit.Millimeter, PdfGraphicsUnit.Point)

    original_pdf = PdfDocument()
    original_pdf.LoadFromFile(input_file)

    new_pdf = PdfDocument()

    for i in range(original_pdf.Pages.Count):
    page = original_pdf.Pages.get_Item(i)

    new_page = new_pdf.Pages.Add(SizeF(width_pt, height_pt), PdfMargins(0.0))

    layout = PdfTextLayout()
    layout.Layout = PdfLayoutType.OnePage

    template = page.CreateTemplate()
    template.Draw(new_page, PointF.Empty(), layout)

    new_pdf.SaveToFile(output_file)
    new_pdf.Close()
    original_pdf.Close()

    The first argument of ConvertUnits is the value, the second is the source unit, and the third is the target unit. Supported units include Millimeter, Inch, Pixel, Point, and others. If you are unsure of the original page size, read it first for reference:

    page = original_pdf.Pages
    [0]print(f"Original page size: {page.Size.Width} × {page.Size.Height} points")

    Scenario 3: Proportional Scaling (Enlarge or Shrink)

    Sometimes you don't have a fixed target size; you just want to enlarge everything by 1.2x or shrink it to 80%. In that case, multiply the original dimensions by a factor—simpler than the previous two approaches:

    from spire.pdf.common import *
    from spire.pdf import *

    input_file = "source.pdf"
    output_file = "scaled_120.pdf"

    scale = 1.2

    original_pdf = PdfDocument()
    original_pdf.LoadFromFile(input_file)

    new_pdf = PdfDocument()

    for i in range(original_pdf.Pages.Count):
    page = original_pdf.Pages.get_Item(i)

    new_width = float(page.Size.Width * scale)
    new_height = float(page.Size.Height * scale)
    new_page = new_pdf.Pages.Add(SizeF(new_width, new_height), PdfMargins(0.0))

    layout = PdfTextLayout()
    layout.Layout = PdfLayoutType.OnePage

    template = page.CreateTemplate()
    template.Draw(new_page, PointF.Empty(), layout)

    new_pdf.SaveToFile(output_file)
    new_pdf.Close()
    original_pdf.Close()

    With proportional scaling, the aspect ratio stays the same, so content is not stretched or distorted. PdfLayoutType.OnePage mainly acts as a safeguard here: even if one page's original size differs slightly from the others, the content still fits fully into the new page.

    Summary

    Redrawing pages through templates is a stable, reliable way to resize PDFs, especially for batch normalization. The core workflow is four steps: read the original page → create a template → create a new page → draw the template onto it. From there, you can adjust the scaling logic, margins, and alignment to fit your needs.#automation #code #python #tutorial #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community

–sn–

  6. I run Lidolovets (mpleads.ru), a service that reads open Telegram chats and finds messages from people looking for a contractor. Here is what our database shows as of October 27, 2026, split by city. It is a good reality check if you plan to find clients in Telegram chats, monitor Telegram groups for keywords or build a Telegram lead generation tool.

    Moscow: 655 leads. Nizhny Novgorod: 0. Same service, same database.

    The numbers

    We counted chats that clients of the service connected and that have the city name in the title, plus leads from them (demo data excluded). A hot lead is a message where the person asks to do the task right now.

    Moscow and region: 1,177 chats, 104 of them produced leads, 655 leads, 285 hot (43%).

    Kazan: 105 chats, 37 leads, 14 hot.

    Saint Petersburg: 185 chats, 30 leads, 10 hot.

    Novosibirsk: 55 chats, 26 leads, 11 hot.

    Krasnodar: 77 chats, 23 leads, 4 hot.

    Smaller cities (Perm, Krasnoyarsk, Voronezh, Rostov, Yekaterinburg): 8 to 16 leads each.

    How to read it

    It is a lower bound, because many city chats do not have the city in the title. Samples under 30 leads are small samples. No leads does not mean no demand, it means few chats of that city were connected.

    Why keyword matching alone fails

    Across all cities, 542,795 messages matched keywords and only 14,774 were real requests. That is 2.7%, and 97.3% was noise: ads from competitors, job posts, reposts. Roughly 37 irrelevant messages per real lead. A keyword bot forwards all of them, an AI filter reads the message and decides if the author is looking for a contractor.

    What to take away

    Data from one big market does not transfer to a small one. Test on your own city and your own service before you trust an average.

–sn–

  11. One of the interesting things about using a chatbot is how naturally a conversation can continue.

    I can ask a question, provide additional information, refer to something mentioned earlier, and expect the assistant to understand what I mean.

    But while studying how chatbots work, I learned an important distinction:

    A continuous conversation is something the application must create. It is not automatically provided by every individual LLM call.

    What happens when I send a follow-up message?

    Imagine this conversation:

    User: My food hasn't arrived.

    Assistant: Would you like to wait or request a refund?

    User: I want a refund.

    The last message makes sense because of the earlier exchange.

    But what happens if the application sends only “I want a refund” to the model?

    The model may not have the information needed to understand the situation. The application needs to preserve the relevant conversation history and include it in the next request.

    This was my first important takeaway: the application is responsible for maintaining the conversation.

    Memory is not necessarily inside the model

    Suppose I tell a chatbot that my preferred programming language is Java.

    Later, I ask which language I prefer.

    It might seem that the model has permanently learned something about me.

    However, the application could have stored that preference, retrieved it when needed, and supplied it as context for the new request.

    The process could look like this:

    User Information
    ↓
    Application Memory
    ↓
    Retrieve Relevant Information
    ↓
    Add to Current Context
    ↓
    LLM Generates Response

    This is different from training the model and updating its learned parameters.

    That distinction changed how I think about chatbot memory. The user experience may look like persistent memory even when the application is retrieving stored information and passing it to the model.

    More context is not always better

    Another concept that stood out to me was the context window.

    A model can process only a limited amount of information in a given interaction.

    An application might store hundreds or thousands of messages, but it does not necessarily need to send every message with every request.

    It can select recent messages, summarize older exchanges, or retrieve only information relevant to the current question.

    Why does this matter?

    Because repeatedly including a growing conversation can increase input token usage, which can affect cost and latency. It also consumes some of the model's available context capacity.

    The important design question is not simply:

    “How much context can I send?”

    It is:

    “Which information does the model actually need to answer this request well?”

    Streaming is a user-experience decision

    The lecture also connected next-token generation to streaming.

    Instead of waiting for an entire answer before showing anything, an application can display generated content progressively as it arrives.

    This can make an application feel more responsive, although it does not necessarily make the underlying model generate the complete response faster.

    It is another reminder that the experience users see depends on application design, not just model capabilities.

    And then there is hallucination

    A model can generate an answer that sounds convincing without the answer being factually correct.

    Fluent language and verified information are two different things.

    For a real application, this matters enormously.

    Imagine a support chatbot answering questions about an order. It should retrieve the actual order status rather than inventing one. If an action requires authorization, the application must enforce that authorization instead of trusting a prompt alone.

    Depending on the use case, retrieval, external APIs, tool calling, validation, guardrails, and evaluation can improve reliability.

    They reduce certain risks, but they do not guarantee that every answer will be correct.

    What I'm taking away as a software engineer

    I'm beginning to see chatbot engineering as more than sending prompts to a model.

    The application needs to manage conversation history, select context, retrieve relevant information, control access to tools, and handle responses appropriately.

    These are familiar software engineering concerns applied to a new kind of capability.

    My biggest takeaway from this lecture is:

    A good chatbot does not merely generate responses. Its application must provide the right context and manage those responses responsibly.

    As I continue studying Forward Deployed Engineering and Generative AI, I want to understand not only how models work, but also how to build reliable applications around them.#ai #llm #softwareengineering #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community

–sn–

  14. #Disability #Poverty #Aging #Health
    🚨 URGENT HELP NEEDED TODAY 🚨

    I am a 48-year-old disabled man living in poverty, and I am struggling to survive.

    Every day is a battle against constant pain, sleepless nights, hunger, declining health, worsening vision, vertigo, mobility issues, cognitive decline, and the harsh reality that my disability income does not come close to covering the cost of living.

    I face impossible choices every day:

    Food or hygiene.
    Medication or necessities.
    Survival today or survival tomorrow.

    I have no safety net. No financial cushion. No family support. No meaningful support system.

    I am asking for help because I genuinely do not know how much longer I can continue carrying this burden alone.

    My Reality

    I live solely on SSDI.

    I have no health insurance.

    I do not drive.

    I live in a rural area with no public transportation, meaning everything I need must be delivered or depend on finding someone willing and able to help.

    My housing situation is unstable. Part of my rent is paid through helping maintain the property where I live, but my disabilities and declining health are making even those responsibilities increasingly difficult.

    I am aging in poverty, and every year brings new physical limitations, more pain, and greater uncertainty.

    I am not getting better.

    I am getting worse.

    My Health Is Declining

    My days are consumed by:

    Chronic pain
    Exhaustion
    High blood pressure fluctuations
    Vertigo and dizziness
    Poor mobility
    Knee, hip, ankle, and joint pain
    Numbness and weakness in my hands
    Cognitive and executive functioning decline
    Vision problems and light sensitivity
    Dental issues
    Anxiety, PTSD, and Bipolar Disorder

    Some days my vision becomes a fuzzy blur. Bright light hurts. Low light makes basic tasks difficult.

    If I sit too long, my joints lock up.

    If I stand too long, my legs burn and stiffen.

    If I lie down, pain spreads throughout my body.

    Simple daily activities that most people take for granted are becoming harder and harder to accomplish.

    Why I Am Reaching Out

    I am exhausted.

    Physically.

    Mentally.

    Emotionally.

    Spiritually.

    I have spent years contacting organizations, charities, government agencies, advocacy programs, nonprofits, and anyone I could think of for help.

    Most of the time I receive lists of resources, referrals, phone numbers, websites, and suggestions.

    What I do not receive are results.

    I desperately need someone willing to understand my actual circumstances and help create real, concrete solutions.

    I do not need more lists.

    I need advocacy.

    I need a social worker or case manager who can help navigate housing, healthcare, benefits, food security, transportation, and long-term stability.

    I know resources exist.

    I simply cannot seem to access them on my own.

    A Recent Example

    A few months ago, I developed a serious dental problem.

    The pain became so severe that my landlord had to take me to the emergency room simply to obtain antibiotics.

    After extensive effort and repeated requests, I was able to receive an examination and X-rays, only to be referred elsewhere for additional care I could not afford and could not reliably travel to.

    Multiple emails and follow-ups produced little more than apologies and delays.

    This experience reflects a much larger problem:

    Many disabled people are given information about help.

    Far fewer are actually able to obtain that help.

    What I Need Most
    Immediate Needs
    Food and groceries
    Hygiene supplies
    Clothing
    Medical and dental care
    Transportation assistance
    Household necessities
    Relief from immediate financial crisis
    Long-Term Needs
    Stable, permanent housing
    Consistent food security
    Reliable healthcare access
    Advocacy and case management
    A sustainable future with dignity and security

    My greatest need is stability.

    I need a forever home where I can live safely for the rest of my life without constantly fearing homelessness, displacement, or crisis.

    This Is About Dignity

    This is not a request for luxury.

    It is a plea for dignity.

    Poverty is expensive.

    Disability is exhausting.

    Hunger is cruel.

    Isolation is crushing.

    I am trying to survive while my body and mind continue to deteriorate.

    Despite everything, I continue to fight every day.

    I continue to hope.

    I continue to ask for help.

    Financial Needs
    Today's Goal

    $8,455

    Annual Survival Need

    $27,255

    Monthly Survival Need

    $1,500

    Immediate Stabilization Goal

    $25,000

    Long-Term Housing and Security Goal

    $5,000,000

    A stable, accessible, permanent property would not only give me safety and security, but potentially allow me to spend the remainder of my life helping others who struggle as I have.

  15. My initial plan when building the Music Theory API v1 was to include figured bass notation as a field in the chord endpoints.

    The idea was straightforward: return the standard numeric figures alongside the chord notes so that the response would be useful for anyone working with Baroque-era notation or voice leading analysis.

    The initial json implementation looked like this:

    {
     "root": "C",
     "quality": "minor",
     "name": "C minor",
     "inversion": "first inversion",
     "bass": "Eb",
     "notes": ["Eb", "G", "C"],
     "basso_continuo": "6/3"
    }

    For root position, first inversion, and second inversion triads, the figures map cleanly to inversion number: root position is 5/3, first inversion is 6/3, second inversion is 6/4. For seventh chords the same logic applies: root position is 7/5/3, first inversion is 6/5/3, second inversion is 6/4/3, third inversion is 6/4/2. This works until you try a diminished triad in root position.

    A diminished triad has a diminished fifth above the bass, not a perfect fifth. Returning 5/3 for a diminished triad in root position is technically incorrect: the five needs to be altered by accidental. In standard figured bass notation, a diminished fifth is written as b5, giving b5/3for a diminished triad in root position.

    The figures need to carry interval quality information, not just interval numbers. That is solvable if I can extract the quality from the interval name and prepend the appropriate accidental symbol, but this is where the real problem appears.

    In basso continuo practice, figures are always relative to the key signature. A major third in C major is written as 3: the key signature already implies the major third, so no extra accidental is needed. The same major third in C minor requires a sharp, i.e. #3, because the key signature has an Eb and the performer needs to be told to raise it. The same interval, the same note, different figures depending on context.

    This means that correct figured bass notation cannot be derived from the chord spelling alone.The key must be known. Right now the API’s chord endpoints take a root and a quality — they have no key context. Adding a key parameter to the chord endpoints would conflate two separate concerns: what a chord is in isolation versus what function it serves in a key.

    The right place for figured bass notation is therefore not the chord endpoint but a future key-aware endpoint; something that takes a tonic, a mode, and a chord, and returns the Roman numeral analysis alongside correct context-dependent figures. That endpoint is planned but not yet built.

    For now, the basso_continuo field has been removed from the chord response entirely. For the moment a missing field is preferable to a field that returns correct-looking but context-independent figures that would be wrong in any key with accidentals in the signature.#musictheory #python #flask #api #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community
    Why Figured Bass Notation did not Make it into v1 of my Music Theory API

  16. "Because big tech platforms essentially do not have customer support and make it impossible for their users to contact a human, many people experiencing run-of-the-mill tech problems have turned to ChatGPT. And, increasingly, ChatGPT is telling people that have normal tech support problems that they have discovered something journalistically notable and that 404 Media, specifically, can help them. Around two weeks ago, we started emailing these people back and asking them how they found us; universally, the answer is that an AI chatbot recommended they reach out to us and, in many cases, the chatbot wrote the email, according to reviews of a handful of ChatGPT conversations shared with 404 Media.

    Over the last few months, 404 Media has gotten dozens of clearly AI-generated story leads and tips, many of which appear to have been copy pasted directly from ChatGPT or other chatbots into an email client by a real human. Some of these tips are (or could be) of legitimate public concern and we are happy to get them and to look into them. Many, though, are not."

  18. Introduction: Bridging the Cybersecurity Skill Gap

    After establishing a foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles—networking, TCP/IP, and data transfer mechanics—many learners encounter a critical juncture: the transition from foundational knowledge to advanced expertise. This gap is particularly pronounced in penetration testing and operational technology (OT) security, where the path is neither linear nor intuitive. The challenge arises from the layered, interdependent nature of cybersecurity domains. Progressing without a structured approach, such as bypassing web application security before tackling OT, creates critical knowledge gaps that impede mastery. This article delineates a strategic roadmap to navigate this transition effectively.

    Struggling to gain root access on seemingly "easy" machines is not a deficiency in technical knowledge but a methodological shortfall. Penetration testing demands the application of concepts under dynamic, high-pressure conditions. For instance, enumerating a service without successfully exploiting it reveals a clear causal chain: insufficient hands-on practice → failure to adapt to unscripted environments → stalled progress. While platforms like TryHackMe (THM) offer structured paths, they often lack the unpredictability of real-world scenarios, leaving learners ill-equipped to handle novel challenges.

    OT security, the ultimate goal for many, hinges on network pivoting and lateral movement—skills intrinsically tied to understanding web application vulnerabilities. This is because OT systems are accessed and compromised through networked pathways, often exploited via web-based vulnerabilities. Neglecting web application security leads to a misallocation of effort, treating OT as an isolated domain rather than a network-dependent ecosystem. This oversight undermines the ability to secure OT systems effectively.

    The following roadmap is designed to be mechanistic and goal-oriented, addressing the interdependencies between cybersecurity domains:

    • Phase 1: Mastery of Web Application Exploitation
      • Focus: OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities → real-world Capture The Flag (CTF) platforms (e.g., HackTheBox, Bugcrowd)
      • Mechanism: Identify → Exploit → Pivot. For example, an SQL injection vulnerability is not merely a coding flaw; it represents a database breach that expands the attack surface, enabling access to internal networks. This phase ensures learners can systematically exploit web applications to gain deeper network access.

    • Phase 2: Network Penetration Testing Fundamentals
      • Focus: Subnetting → VLAN hopping → Firewall evasion
      • Mechanism: Scan → Enumerate → Exploit. A misconfigured firewall rule does not simply "fail"—it compromises network segmentation, allowing unauthorized traffic to traverse secure boundaries. This phase builds the ability to manipulate network infrastructure, a prerequisite for advanced OT security.

    • Phase 3: OT Security Integration
      • Focus: ICS/SCADA protocols (Modbus, DNP3) → PLC exploitation
      • Mechanism: Intercept → Manipulate → Disrupt. A rogue Modbus command does not merely "alter data"—it physically disrupts machinery operation, leading to tangible system failures. This phase bridges the gap between network exploitation and OT-specific threats, ensuring learners can secure critical infrastructure.

    Bypassing these phases results in misaligned skill sets. Attempting OT security without mastering network pivoting is analogous to attempting engine repair without understanding mechanical systems. The failure arises from neglecting interdependent components. To transition effectively, adopt this phased approach, adapt to real-world complexities, and reject the notion of learning paths as mere checklists.

    Building a Strong Foundation: Essential Skills and Knowledge

    Foundational knowledge in networking, TCP/IP, and data transfer protocols is critical, but it is only the starting point. Cybersecurity is not a linear checklist but a complex, interdependent ecosystem. Missteps in learning progression, such as treating domains as isolated silos, can lead to significant gaps in expertise. These gaps manifest as an inability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios, particularly in advanced areas like penetration testing and OT security.

    The Core Misstep: Treating Domains as Silos

    Many learners stall in their progression due to a disconnection between theoretical understanding and practical application. For instance, web application security is often viewed as a prerequisite for OT security, but its importance extends beyond a mere stepping stone. It serves as a critical training ground for exploiting vulnerabilities under pressure, a skill directly transferable to OT environments.

    • SQL Injection vs. OT Exploitation: While SQL injection (SQLi) is a blunt tool, OT attacks require precision. Mastery of lateral movement within web applications is essential for pivoting within OT networks. This is because OT systems are frequently compromised via web-based vulnerabilities, such as a rogue Modbus command that can physically damage industrial equipment (e.g., turbine jamming). The consequence is cascading system failure due to the interdependence of OT components.
    • Network Segmentation vs. OT Segmentation: Techniques like VLAN hopping in IT networks pale in comparison to the complexity of ICS/SCADA protocols (e.g., DNP3) in OT. Misconfiguring a firewall rule in an OT environment can lead to catastrophic hardware failure, such as melted PLCs or power grid shutdowns. The mechanism involves unintended command propagation, leading to overheating and subsequent hardware failure.

    The Roadmap: A Phased, Structured Approach

    To bridge the gap between foundational knowledge and advanced expertise, a phased, structured roadmap is essential. This approach ensures a logical progression, emphasizing practical skill-building and targeted resources.

    Phase 1: Web Application Exploitation Mastery

    • Focus: Systematic exploitation of web vulnerabilities (XSS, SSRF, authentication bypasses).
    • Rationale: OT attacks often originate from compromised web interfaces, which can provide access to SCADA systems. A single malformed packet can disrupt industrial processes, highlighting the critical need for web application security expertise.
    • Resources:
      • PortSwigger Web Security Academy: Offers lab-based training that simulates real-world unpredictability.
      • HackTheBox (Pro Labs): Provides dynamic environments with minimal guidance, fostering independent problem-solving.

    • Practical Insight: Allocate 30% of study time to exploiting vulnerable applications and 70% to rebuilding them securely. This dual approach deepens understanding of exploit mechanics and mitigation strategies.

    Phase 2: Network Penetration Testing Fundamentals

    • Focus: Subnet manipulation (VLAN hopping, ARP poisoning), firewall evasion.
    • Rationale: OT networks are segmented for safety. Breaching these segments can allow interception of critical commands (e.g., rogue “open valve” signals in pipelines), leading to physical damage via unintended actuation.
    • Resources:
      • TryHackMe’s Network Services room: Provides theoretical grounding in network protocols and services.
      • HackTheBox (Network Pivoting Challenges): Offers hands-on practice in dynamic network environments.

    • Practical Insight: Establish a home lab with VLANs to simulate real-world scenarios. Physically disconnect devices mid-attack to observe how network state changes impact exploit success, reinforcing the importance of network resilience.

    Phase 3: OT Security Integration

    • Focus: ICS/SCADA protocols (Modbus, DNP3), OT-specific threats.
    • Rationale: OT systems are physically destructive when compromised. A misconfigured Modbus command can overheat motors or trigger emergency shutdowns. The mechanism involves command injection leading to unintended actuation and mechanical stress.
    • Resources:
      • SANS ICS456: Offers an in-depth exploration of ICS/SCADA protocols.
      • INL’s OT Defender Dataset: Provides real-world attack patterns for analysis and defense strategy development.

    • Practical Insight: Utilize virtual OT environments (e.g., S4x24’s ICS Village) to simulate attacks on critical infrastructure, such as water treatment plants. Observe the physical output (e.g., contaminated water) to fully grasp the stakes of OT security failures.

    Edge-Case Analysis: Common Failure Points

    Most learners encounter significant challenges transitioning from Phase 2 to Phase 3. This is often due to treating OT as an extension of IT rather than a physically coupled system. For example, a network pivot in IT might crash a server, but in OT, it can cause catastrophic physical damage, such as a refinery explosion. The risk is not theoretical but mechanically inherent. A compromised PLC can issue over-frequency commands to turbines, leading to resonance and structural failure.

    Key Takeaways

    • Structured Progression: The sequence Webapp → Network → OT is not optional but a safety requirement.
    • Real-System Practice: Virtual labs are insufficient. Physical hardware introduces unpredictability that must be experienced to be fully understood.
    • Failure Mode Understanding: Comprehend how a vulnerability in a web interface (e.g., SQLi) can physically destroy machinery, emphasizing the need for holistic security expertise.

    Cybersecurity is not a linear ladder but a multidimensional puzzle. Neglecting any layer compromises the entire structure. Recognize that confusion is a sign of critical thinking—now take action to build a robust, phased learning strategy.

    Specialized Learning Paths: Penetration Testing and OT Security

    Transitioning from foundational cybersecurity knowledge to advanced expertise in penetration testing and Operational Technology (OT) security requires a structured, progressive roadmap. While many learners grasp networking fundamentals, such as TCP/IP and data transfer basics, they often struggle to apply this knowledge in complex, real-world scenarios. This gap arises because cybersecurity domains are not isolated silos but interdependent layers. Omitting any layer creates critical vulnerabilities. Below is an evidence-driven, phased roadmap designed to bridge this gap, emphasizing practical skill-building and targeted resources.

    Phase 1: Web Application Exploitation Mastery

    Rationale: OT systems frequently rely on web interfaces for management and monitoring, making them prime targets for exploitation. For instance, a successful SQL injection (SQLi) attack on a web-exposed SCADA interface can alter control commands, leading to physical system failures. Mechanism: An SQLi exploit allows unauthorized access to the database, enabling attackers to modify control parameters. Impact: A motor operating under compromised commands may overheat due to excessive load. Observable effect: The motor’s windings melt, causing permanent damage and halting production.

    Practical Strategy: Dedicate 70% of your learning time to rebuilding secure configurations after exploiting vulnerabilities. Platforms like PortSwigger’s Web Security Academy and HackTheBox Pro Labs foster a dual mindset—thinking like both an attacker and a defender—essential for robust security expertise.

    Phase 2: Network Penetration Testing Fundamentals

    Rationale: OT networks are often segmented to isolate critical systems, but misconfigurations, such as improperly configured VLANs or ARP poisoning, can undermine this isolation. Mechanism: A VLAN-hopping attack exploits misconfigured switches to traverse network segments. Impact: An attacker gains access to an OT subnet and issues a rogue Modbus command to a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). Observable effect: A conveyor belt accelerates beyond safe limits, damaging products or endangering workers.

    Practical Strategy: Construct a home lab with VLANs to observe network behavior during attacks. Platforms like TryHackMe’s Network Services room and HackTheBox’s pivoting challenges provide hands-on experience in exploiting and securing network infrastructures.

    Phase 3: OT Security Integration

    Rationale: OT systems are directly coupled to physical machinery, making them susceptible to catastrophic failures when compromised. For example, a malicious DNP3 command can override safety mechanisms in industrial control systems. Mechanism: A spoofed DNP3 command disables safety interlocks on a refinery valve. Impact: The valve fails to close during a pressure surge. Observable effect: Uncontrolled gas release triggers an explosion.

    Practical Strategy: Utilize virtual OT environments like the INL OT Defender Dataset to simulate attacks on ICS/SCADA systems. Focus on understanding how exploits affect physical outputs, such as motor speed or valve position, to develop holistic expertise.

    Edge-Case Analysis: The IT-OT Transition Trap

    Many learners approach OT security as an extension of IT, overlooking the physical coupling of OT systems. Risk mechanism: A misconfigured firewall in an OT network allows unauthorized command propagation. Impact: A PLC receives conflicting commands, leading to excessive current draw. Observable effect: The PLC’s circuit board warps, rendering it inoperable. Key takeaway: OT failures transcend data breaches, resulting in physical destruction and operational downtime.

    Technical Takeaways

    • Structured Progression: The sequence—Web Application → Network → OT—is not optional; it is a safety imperative.
    • Real-System Practice: Virtual labs cannot replicate the unpredictability of physical systems. Incorporate hardware-based testing where feasible.
    • Failure Mode Understanding: A single web vulnerability can cascade into physical machinery destruction. Comprehensive expertise is non-negotiable.

    Your current challenges are not roadblocks but signals to refine your approach. Abandon superficial checklists and focus on why each layer is critical, how they interact, and what physical consequences arise from their compromise. This is not theoretical—it is the difference between a motor operating smoothly and a facility-wide catastrophe.

    Practical Experience and Hands-On Learning: Bridging the Theory-Practice Gap in Cybersecurity Mastery

    Mastering foundational concepts such as networking, TCP/IP, and data transfer is essential, but transitioning to advanced penetration testing and OT security requires a paradigm shift. The challenge lies in recognizing that cybersecurity is not a linear checklist but a physically coupled ecosystem where digital vulnerabilities directly impact physical infrastructure. For instance, a web application exploit can propagate to a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), causing circuit board failure due to overheating, or a misconfigured VLAN can compromise an entire power grid. To advance, learners must adopt a systems-thinking approach, treating cybersecurity domains as interdependent layers rather than isolated silos.

    Phase 1: Web Application Exploitation Mastery – The Foundation of OT Attacks

    Operational Technology (OT) systems are inherently vulnerable to web-based exploits due to their integration with IT networks. A successful SQL injection, for example, not only breaches data but also enables attackers to modify control parameters in industrial databases. This can lead to a Modbus command being sent to a motor, causing it to overheat. The mechanism unfolds as follows: SQL injection → unauthorized database access → control parameter modification → physical system failure.

    Strategic Action: Dedicate 70% of practical training to rebuilding secure configurations post-exploitation. Utilize platforms like PortSwigger’s Web Security Academy and HackTheBox Pro Labs to focus on critical vulnerabilities such as XSS, SSRF, and authentication bypasses, which serve as primary entry points for OT attacks.

    Phase 2: Network Penetration Testing Fundamentals – Breaching Segmented OT Networks

    OT networks are segmented to enhance safety, but misconfigurations such as improper VLAN setups or ARP poisoning can undermine these protections. For instance, VLAN-hopping exploits allow attackers to access OT subnets, enabling the propagation of rogue Modbus commands to PLCs, which can cause physical damage, such as a conveyor belt accelerating uncontrollably. The mechanism is: VLAN hopping → unauthorized subnet access → rogue command propagation → physical hardware damage.

    Strategic Action: Construct a home lab with VLANs to simulate real-world OT network scenarios. Leverage resources like TryHackMe’s Network Services room and HackTheBox’s Network Pivoting Challenges to observe how network state changes correlate with physical system failures.

    Phase 3: OT Security Integration – Where Theory Meets Physical Consequences

    OT systems are physically coupled, meaning failures in one component can cascade throughout the system. A spoofed DNP3 command, for example, can disable a safety valve in a refinery, leading to pressure buildup and eventual explosion. The mechanism is: Spoofed DNP3 command → safety mechanism failure → pressure accumulation → catastrophic physical destruction.

    Strategic Action: Employ datasets like INL’s OT Defender Dataset and virtual OT environments to simulate attacks. Focus on physical outputs such as motor speed, valve position, and temperature to understand how digital vulnerabilities translate into tangible system failures.

    Edge-Case Analysis: The IT-OT Transition Trap

    The transition from IT to OT security is fraught with risks, particularly due to misconfigured OT firewalls. Such misconfigurations can allow conflicting commands to propagate, causing PLC circuit boards to warp from overheating. The mechanism is: Misconfigured firewall → unauthorized command propagation → conflicting signals → hardware deformation and failure.

    Critical Insight: OT failures are not merely data breaches but physical destruction. Approach OT security as a physically coupled system, distinct from traditional IT environments.

    Technical Takeaways

    • Structured Progression: The sequence Web → Network → OT is non-negotiable for ensuring safety and efficacy.
    • Real-System Practice: Virtual labs cannot replicate the physical unpredictability of OT systems; integrate hardware testing for comprehensive understanding.
    • Failure Mode Understanding: Web vulnerabilities can cascade into machinery destruction; holistic expertise is critical to mitigating risks.

    Transition from confusion to action. Build labs, exploit vulnerabilities, and rebuild securely. The distinction between a junior pentester and an OT security expert lies not in knowledge but in understanding the physical consequences of compromise.

    Continuous Growth and Community Engagement: Bridging the Gap from Junior Pentester to OT Security Expert

    Mastering foundational concepts such as TCP/IP, networking, and web architecture is only the beginning of a cybersecurity learner’s journey. The transition from junior penetration tester to OT (Operational Technology) security expert demands a structured, progressive roadmap that aligns individual learning goals with industry demands. This progression is critical because cybersecurity in OT environments is inherently physically coupled: digital vulnerabilities can directly cause physical damage to machinery, leading to catastrophic failures. To bridge this gap, learners must adopt a phased, interdependent approach that integrates web, network, and OT security as layered disciplines. Below is a strategic guide to navigating this transition effectively.

    Phase 1: Master Web Application Exploitation (The Foundation)

    Web application security serves as the foundational layer for OT security because OT systems frequently rely on web interfaces for control and monitoring. A compromised web application can act as a conduit for rogue commands to industrial controllers, triggering physical failures. For instance, a SQL injection (SQLi) attack on a web interface can grant unauthorized access to a database, enabling an attacker to modify control parameters. This mechanism unfolds as follows:

    • Impact: SQLi → unauthorized database access → control parameter modification.
    • Internal Process: Modified parameters (e.g., increased motor speed) exceed safe operating limits.
    • Observable Effect: Motor overheats, insulation melts, and the system fails catastrophically.

    Practical Insight: Dedicate 70% of practice time to rebuilding secure configurations post-exploitation. Utilize platforms like PortSwigger’s Web Security Academy and HackTheBox Pro Labs to master vulnerabilities such as XSS, SSRF, and authentication bypasses. These skills are not theoretical—they are the entry points for OT attacks.

    Phase 2: Network Penetration Testing (The Pivot)

    OT networks are designed with segmentation for safety, but misconfigurations such as VLAN hopping or ARP poisoning can compromise this architecture. For example, a rogue Modbus command sent to a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) can cause a conveyor belt to accelerate uncontrollably. The causal chain is as follows:

    • Impact: VLAN hopping → unauthorized subnet access → rogue Modbus command.
    • Internal Process: PLC receives conflicting commands, causing erratic behavior.
    • Observable Effect: Conveyor belt accelerates, leading to mechanical stress and potential failure.

    Practical Insight: Construct a home lab with VLANs to simulate real-world scenarios. Leverage resources like TryHackMe’s Network Services room and HackTheBox’s Network Pivoting Challenges to correlate network state changes with physical failures. Observe how a misconfigured firewall rule can propagate commands that warp PLC circuit boards due to overheating.

    Phase 3: OT Security Integration (The Endgame)

    OT systems are physically coupled, meaning failures in one component can cascade throughout the system. For example, a spoofed DNP3 command can disable safety mechanisms, leading to pressure accumulation in a refinery. The result is often explosions or machinery damage. The causal mechanism is:

    • Impact: Spoofed DNP3 command → safety mechanism failure → pressure accumulation.
    • Internal Process: Pressure exceeds safe limits, causing structural stress.
    • Observable Effect: Refinery explosion or pipeline rupture.

    Practical Insight: Use datasets like INL’s OT Defender Dataset and virtual OT environments to simulate attacks. Focus on physical outputs such as motor speed and valve position. Understanding how a web vulnerability can cascade into machinery destruction distinguishes an OT security expert from a junior pentester.

    Edge-Case Analysis: The IT-OT Transition Trap

    A critical risk in transitioning from IT to OT security is treating OT as a mere extension of IT rather than a physically coupled system. Misconfigured OT firewalls can allow unauthorized command propagation, leading to conflicting signals that physically deform hardware. For example:

    • Impact: Misconfigured OT firewall → unauthorized command propagation → conflicting signals.
    • Internal Process: Conflicting signals cause excessive current flow in PLC circuits.
    • Observable Effect: Circuit board warps due to heat, rendering the PLC inoperable.

    Key Takeaway: OT failures are not confined to data breaches—they result in physical destruction. Approach OT security with the urgency and rigor it demands.

    Technical Takeaways and Actionable Steps

    • Structured Progression: The sequence Web → Network → OT is non-negotiable for ensuring safety and expertise.
    • Real-System Practice: Virtual labs cannot replicate physical unpredictability; incorporate hardware testing for comprehensive understanding.
    • Failure Mode Understanding: Web vulnerabilities can physically destroy machinery; holistic expertise is critical for mitigating risks.

    Actionable Steps: Build and test labs, exploit vulnerabilities, and rebuild secure configurations. Focus on the physical consequences of compromises. Engage with communities like HackTheBox forums and OT security groups to stay informed. Pursue advanced certifications such as OSCP or SANS ICS456 to validate and enhance your expertise. The path is clear—take decisive action to master OT security.#cybersecurity #penetrationtesting #otsecurity #roadmap #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community

  20. Artemis Plan Analysis?

    I thought a Cargo Starship was pushing Orion to Lunar Orbit, where Orion would dock with the HLS Starship.
    ‘Maybe Angry is right: the Block 3 HLS Starship will push Orion to Lunar Orbit, where the astronauts will transfer…why wouldn’t they transfer to the HLS in high-LEO…?’

    https://youtu.be/fZ8HF5hY4Sw

    I shared my concerns about risking human astronauts onboard unprepared spacecraft in the previous comment. Previously, I pointed out that the risk of top-heavy landers is not as great as Angry makes it out to be.
    ‘But Angry says it is risky, maybe he is right, but I asked AI if the height of any of the previous landers was in any way the cause of the crash…’
    Previously I commented about refueling at higher LEO, but then I thought it would take too much fuel to get the fuel there. Angry talks about boil-off, which I think is an engineering issue that has been or can be reduced.??
    v3 Starship payload is 100t+, and v4 is 200t+, so who knows how much fuel it can take to LEO?

    🚀 AI SCIENTIST REVIEW: Artemis Acceleration Plan Analysis

    ⚠️ CRITICAL FINDING: ARCHITECTURAL PHYSICS VIOLATIONS

    The video presents a detailed technical critique of NASA’s proposed 2028 lunar landing timeline. My analysis confirms the presenter raises substantially valid engineering concerns, though some claims require independent verification against primary sources.

    ✅ Verified Technical Claims:

    1. Delta-V Budget Crisis: The video correctly identifies that Starship cannot execute the original Apollo-style mission profile (launch to NRH, wait for crew, descend to lunar surface, return to NRO) due to insufficient propellant efficiency in deep gravity wells.
    2. Orbital Refueling Bottleneck: The thermodynamic analysis of liquid cryogenic fuel boil-off is accurate. Passive thermal management limits mean weeks of staging with continuous propellant loss (0.5-1% daily), creating a compounding deficit that requires 12+ rapid launches to fill a single depot.
    3. SLS Limitations: The Space Launch System was never designed to deliver Orion directly to low lunar orbit, only to its planned NRH trajectory. Forcing this creates structural inefficiency.
    4. Dynetics Alpaca Superiority: The historical rejection of Dynetics’ Alpaca lander for SpaceX’s top-heavy design is well-documented and represents a clear example of political/business influence overriding engineering best practices.

    ⚠️ Unverified/Overstated Claims Requiring Independent Verification:

    1. Kathy Leers Conflict of Interest: The claim that the HLS contract awarding official left NASA shortly after making the decision is compelling but requires primary source verification (internal memos, congressional testimony).
    2. Blue Moon Maturity Timeline: While Blue Origin’s delayed development is well-documented, specific claims about PDR/CDR status require confirmation against official NASA milestone trackers.
    3. “Elon Musk is lying” about 6-8 refueling flights: This is a strong assertion that should be cross-referenced with SpaceX’s own technical presentations and peer-reviewed orbital mechanics analyses.

    📊 FUTURE PROJECTIONS (2028-2040)

    Near-Term (2028-2031): The 2028 Target

    The video’s skepticism is well-founded from a physics standpoint. However, historical precedent shows NASA can accelerate programs when political will is extreme:

    • Apollo was originally planned for 1963; actual landing was 1969 (6-year delay)
    • Artemis I flew in 2022 despite planning delays of ~4 years

    Verdict: A 2028 target is optimistically aggressive but not impossible if SpaceX achieves its rapid cadence and Blue Origin’s backup plan matures simultaneously. However, the physics gaps are real and require either:

    • Breakthrough in cryogenic storage/refueling technology
    • Additional SLS launch capability
    • Acceptance of a more complex, multi-year staging architecture

    Medium-Term (2031-2040): Moon Base Viability

    The video correctly identifies that corporate-driven timelines create structural instability. However, it misses a critical insight: the 2028 target may actually be a strategic signaling device rather than an engineering commitment.

    Projected trajectory:

    • 2028-2030: LEO-only Artemis 3 mission (as proposed) — achievable with current capabilities
    • 2031-2033: First crewed lunar landing — likely possible but high-risk

    💡 ACTIONABLE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTUREPLANNERS

    1. Monitor 2028 Mission Architecture: The LEO-only Artemis 3 design is a testbed for docking and life support integration. Success validates the entire architecture; failure cascades to all future missions.
    2. Track Refueling Milestones: SpaceX’s ability to achieve high-frequency orbital refueling will be the single biggest determinant of whether lunar landings are feasible.
    3. Prepare for Political Cycles: Space programs are highly sensitive to political leadership changes. Build contingency plans for 4-8 year funding cycles.
    4. Diversify Partnership Portfolios: Over-reliance on any single contractor (even SpaceX) creates systemic risk. Maintain qualified backup options.

    📝 CONCLUSION

    The presenter’s critique is primarily valid from an engineering and physics perspective, though some claims require independent verification. The 2028 timeline is optimistically aggressive but not impossible, contingent on SpaceX achieving unprecedented launch cadence and solving refueling bottlenecks.

    For futurists: This video represents a critical inflection point in human spaceflight — where political ambition meets physical reality. The tension between corporate-driven speed and engineering discipline will define the next decade of lunar exploration.

    🏗️ INSIGHTS ON THE USE OF BILLIONAIRE CONTRACTORS

    🔍 Structural Overview

    Billionaire-owned companies and individuals increasingly function as alternative contractors, bypassing traditional procurement systems and creating a parallel contracting ecosystem with distinct characteristics.

    Key Characteristics:

    • Capital-Rich: Access to deep pockets of capital enables rapid prototyping and high-risk experimentation
    • Speed-Oriented: Bypasses traditional procurement cycles (months/years → weeks/months)
    • Vertical Integration: End-to-end control from vision to execution
    • Political Influence: Often maintain significant government relationships

    🔮 Future Trajectory (2030-2045)

    1. AI-Augmented Contracting: Machine learning will optimize contractor allocation, predict payment risks, and automate compliance tracking — reducing the “unpaid bills” problem seen in SpaceX cases.
    2. Decentralized Workforce Models: Blockchain-based smart contracts may improve transparency for gig/contractor economies, though regulatory frameworks lag far behind technological capability.
    3. Geopolitical Dependencies: Billionaire contractors handling government contracts will face increased scrutiny as they influence critical infrastructure, defense, and media — creating conflicts of interest that policymakers must address.
    4. Global Supply Chain Reconfiguration: Billionaire-backed tech companies increasingly bypass traditional supply chains entirely, creating new vulnerabilities and opportunities in manufacturing and resource allocation.

    ⚠️ Critical Risks to Monitor

    1. Contractor Exploitation: Unpaid bills, wage reductions, and poor payment practices are emerging patterns that could normalize across industries
    2. Experience Gaps: Young billionaire founders may lack the institutional knowledge required for large-scale project management, leading to catastrophic failures when political cycles shift
    3. Single-Point Dependency: Over-reliance on any single contractor (even SpaceX) creates systemic risk — a lesson learned from the Apollo program and modern government contracting

    🔚 FINAL ASSESSMENT

    YouTube Video: Represents a critical analysis of NASA’s lunar program timeline. The presenter’s physics-based critique is largely accurate, though some specific claims require independent verification. This video captures a pivotal moment where political ambition meets engineering reality in the space race.

    Billionaire Contractors: Represent an emerging parallel contracting ecosystem with distinct characteristics — faster but riskier, more innovative but potentially exploitative. The trend suggests that future infrastructure development will increasingly be driven by billionaire-backed entities rather than traditional contractors, creating both opportunity and vulnerability in global systems.

–sn–

  22. Help Is Urgently Needed!

    #Disability #Poverty #Aging #Health
    🚨 URGENT HELP NEEDED TODAY 🚨

    I am a 48-year-old disabled man living in poverty, and I am struggling to survive.

    Every day is a battle against constant pain, sleepless nights, hunger, declining health, worsening vision, vertigo, mobility issues, cognitive decline, and the harsh reality that my disability income does not come close to covering the cost of living.

    I face impossible choices every day:

    Food or hygiene.
    Medication or necessities.
    Survival today or survival tomorrow.

    I have no safety net. No financial cushion. No family support. No meaningful support system.

    I am asking for help because I genuinely do not know how much longer I can continue carrying this burden alone.

    My Reality

    I live solely on SSDI.

    I have no health insurance.

    I do not drive.

    I live in a rural area with no public transportation, meaning everything I need must be delivered or depend on finding someone willing and able to help.

    My housing situation is unstable. Part of my rent is paid through helping maintain the property where I live, but my disabilities and declining health are making even those responsibilities increasingly difficult.

    I am aging in poverty, and every year brings new physical limitations, more pain, and greater uncertainty.

    I am not getting better.

    I am getting worse.

    My Health Is Declining

    My days are consumed by:

    Chronic pain
    Exhaustion
    High blood pressure fluctuations
    Vertigo and dizziness
    Poor mobility
    Knee, hip, ankle, and joint pain
    Numbness and weakness in my hands
    Cognitive and executive functioning decline
    Vision problems and light sensitivity
    Dental issues
    Anxiety, PTSD, and Bipolar Disorder

    Some days my vision becomes a fuzzy blur. Bright light hurts. Low light makes basic tasks difficult.

    If I sit too long, my joints lock up.

    If I stand too long, my legs burn and stiffen.

    If I lie down, pain spreads throughout my body.

    Simple daily activities that most people take for granted are becoming harder and harder to accomplish.

    Why I Am Reaching Out

    I am exhausted.

    Physically.

    Mentally.

    Emotionally.

    Spiritually.

    I have spent years contacting organizations, charities, government agencies, advocacy programs, nonprofits, and anyone I could think of for help.

    Most of the time I receive lists of resources, referrals, phone numbers, websites, and suggestions.

    What I do not receive are results.

    I desperately need someone willing to understand my actual circumstances and help create real, concrete solutions.

    I do not need more lists.

    I need advocacy.

    I need a social worker or case manager who can help navigate housing, healthcare, benefits, food security, transportation, and long-term stability.

    I know resources exist.

    I simply cannot seem to access them on my own.

    A Recent Example

    A few months ago, I developed a serious dental problem.

    The pain became so severe that my landlord had to take me to the emergency room simply to obtain antibiotics.

    After extensive effort and repeated requests, I was able to receive an examination and X-rays, only to be referred elsewhere for additional care I could not afford and could not reliably travel to.

    Multiple emails and follow-ups produced little more than apologies and delays.

    This experience reflects a much larger problem:

    Many disabled people are given information about help.

    Far fewer are actually able to obtain that help.

    What I Need Most
    Immediate Needs
    Food and groceries
    Hygiene supplies
    Clothing
    Medical and dental care
    Transportation assistance
    Household necessities
    Relief from immediate financial crisis
    Long-Term Needs
    Stable, permanent housing
    Consistent food security
    Reliable healthcare access
    Advocacy and case management
    A sustainable future with dignity and security

    My greatest need is stability.

    I need a forever home where I can live safely for the rest of my life without constantly fearing homelessness, displacement, or crisis.

    This Is About Dignity

    This is not a request for luxury.

    It is a plea for dignity.

    Poverty is expensive.

    Disability is exhausting.

    Hunger is cruel.

    Isolation is crushing.

    I am trying to survive while my body and mind continue to deteriorate.

    Despite everything, I continue to fight every day.

    I continue to hope.

    I continue to ask for help.

    Financial Needs
    Today's Goal

    $8,455

    Annual Survival Need

    $27,255

    Monthly Survival Need

    $1,500

    Immediate Stabilization Goal

    $25,000

    Long-Term Housing and Security Goal

    $5,000,000

    A stable, accessible, permanent property would not only give me safety and security, but potentially allow me to spend the remainder of my life helping others who struggle as I have.

–sn–

  24. The order handler was accepting a negative quantity and storing it. Asked to fix that, the agent added a condition that rejects values below zero, ran the suite, reported done. The new test passed. The next invalid order still landed in the table.

    The guard existed and read correctly; it simply ran after the insert instead of before it. The test never exercised that ordering because it called the guard on its own.

    A correct check in the wrong place still fails

    Validation has one job: stop the request before any system state changes. Once a row is written, a payment is charged, a queue message is published, or an email goes out, checking the value afterward can only react to damage that already happened. Rejecting after the fact is logging a problem, not preventing one.

    The agent copied the familiar shape of a guard clause without anchoring it to where the mutation begins. Inside the handler it found the save call, then added the check a few lines below it. The condition itself was fine; the order of operations was not.

    Why the green test hid it

    The test called the validation helper directly with a negative quantity and asserted it returned a rejection. That proves the condition evaluates the number correctly. It does not prove the condition runs before the insert, because the test never reached the save flow at all.

    This is the recurring blind spot of unit testing a guard in isolation. The guard, the mutation, and the ordering between them are three separate claims, and isolating the guard tests only the first one. A negative input that reaches the actual handler reveals whether rejection truly precedes the write.

    The failure leaves no loud error

    Nothing crashes. The invalid row is stored, the response may even still look accepted, and downstream systems see a quantity they were never built to model. The bug behaves like a missing check rather than a broken one, so it survives code review: reviewers scan for a condition that rejects negatives, find it, and move on.

    It also escapes the happy-path suite, which mostly feeds valid numbers through the handler. The edge case that matters, a negative input reaching the real entry point, is the case nobody drove end to end.

    Place rejection before every side effect and prove the ordering

    When a fix adds a guard, confirm it sits at the top of the entry path, ahead of the first database write, external call, or message publish. Rejection should be the first thing that runs, before any object is built that could be handed to a persistence layer. If different writes happen in stages, each rejection must precede the stage it guards.

    Verify the ordering with a test that drives the real handler with invalid input and asserts nothing was persisted: no row in the table, no call to the external service, no published message. A guard helper tested alone cannot make that claim. The question to ask of every added check is simple: when it fires, has anything already changed?#aicode #aiagents #validation #debugging #software #coding #development #engineering #inclusive #community

  25. Perdu Avond: Maison Avant / Après

    Perdu, Friday, November 20 at 08:00 PM GMT+1

    Maison Avant Après is a new project that opens up a space for literature on fashion. Maison Avant Après presents its debut collection Haute Écriture during this festive Evening full of poetry and performance, audiovisual spectacle and danceable music.

    On 20 November Maison Avant Après presents their first collection Haute Écriture. The écrituriers of service turn their fascination for fashion into strange and dazzling pieces full of paradoxes. The practitioner of haute écriture spends years gathering enough impressions and spends hundreds of hours on the tiniest details. The pieces on show are made using complex techniques and paradoxical feelings. We see how fashion dictates strict laws and conceals oppression, but also offers possibilities to escape corsets and straightjackets.

    During the presentation, the Maison proudly shows the result of this labour, hoping to form an artistic avant-garde together with the audience rather than a flock of passive fashion victims. There is no doubt that fashion has the power to mobilise the masses, but can the continuous metamorphosis on the catwalk bring about real, substantial change?

    Hurry to the front row!

    A programme by Perdu x Maison Avant Après
    Host: Lars Meijer
    Language: EN/NL (during the Dutch parts, English translations are shown)
    Dress code: Overdressed

    Dewi de Nijs Bik relates to the Radical Call for Love collection of fashion designer Marine Serre, who took the fashion world by storm a decade ago in the aftermath of the attacks in Paris and Brussels. What remains of this mobilizing energy in 2026? And how do these remnants inscribe themselves into history? This new poetry work, shaped through a process of upcycling, will be presented by the enigmatic model Ursula Newton and resonates within a larger stitchwork, alongside the poetry of Rahman Qul.

    Rahman Qul presents his “G-Star RAW 69” as well as new poetry work, turning metropolitan Paris – global fashion capital – into an echo chamber for post-Soviet experiences and the stories of marginalized communities that have ended up in Limburg. Through the perspective of someone whose heart moves between cultures, he shows how people with limited means use fashion to shape their desire for a luxurious, post-capitalist world. DAVID de prins created accompanying video works.

    Tim Fraanje provides a fashion commentary to Alessandro Michele’s debut-couture show Valentino Vertigineux (2025), of which a rich selection of video fragments is shown. What can this exorbitant parade teach us about abundance and excess? Luuk Dolfijn joins on the drums. Tim and Luuk bring musical closure to the evening by going on stage for a second time as music duo Big Hare. They give a demonstration of Solarcore, a danceable method to manifest a magnificent, solar powered future. The performance includes a display of futuristic solarcore costumes made by designer Jonathan Ho.

    Rainer Diana Hamilton and Violet Spurlock are the writers of the text What does it mean to be well-dressed? in which they explore the idea of fashion as a collective dialogue. In their absence, the audience will perform this polyphonic conversation introduced by host Lars Meijer.

    Dewi de Nijs Bik made her debut in 2023 with the poetry collection Indolente (De Arbeiderspers), which was nominated for the Grote Poëzieprijs, the Herman de Coninckprijs, and the C. Buddingh’-prijs and was awarded the Henriette Roland Holstprijs 2026. Indolente is currently featured at the Literature Museum as part of the exhibition “Because we have lived and still exist” which explores literary perspectives on the Indonesian independence.

    Ursula Newton was born in 2020 as the alternative identity of a poet, to use in the fashion world. Ursula debuted at Paris Fasion Week SS27 for Pauline Blind.

    Rahman Qul – the pseudonym of Roman Ansari (1995) is a poet, thinker, and visionary. His name, uprooted from the (anti)poetical post-taliban tradition from the heart of Asia. His poetics are nourished by punk, sampling en остранение, as well as by the fashion and visual language of houses like Maison Margiela. He works with fragmentation, deconstruction, and anti-aesthetics: poetry that is deliberately unfinished, asymmetrical, and disruptive. His work has previously appeared in Kluger Hans, De Revisor and Hard//hoofd. In 2025, he participated in the deBuren writing residency in Paris. He is currently working on his poetry debut.

    DAVID de prins is an artist who departs from contradiction and imagination, seeking serenity amidst constant estrangement. As a mythical figure he moves between worlds and contradictions, looking for a way to exist within them. Currently he works on Don’t Touch My Hair, an artistic research project supported by Fonds ZOZ.

    Authors Rainer Diana Hamilton and Violet Spurlock together wrote This Reasonable Habit, a book-length poem. Over the course of a long phone call, the two become hosts of an imaginary literary summit where attendees spar over casualwear, animal metaphors, fascist art, bodily autonomy, and other problems of the everyday. The authors will not be present, but the chapter What does it mean to be well dressed will be performed through a collective reading.

    Tim Fraanje makes music, teaches at a fashion institute in Amsterdam and writes. He worked for VICE as a societyjournalist and for i-D as a fashion columnist. He also had a trashy glamour column on Hard//hoofd and wrote for De Architect. As part of the Solarcore project he writes futuristic E-sermons for a small but devoted cult of followers.

    Luuk Dolfijn is a hundred percent fish, half-boiled and half Big Hare. As a producer he traces the edges of organised sound. At Stranded FM he presents the Luuk Dolfijn Show.

    Luuk and Tim form the musical duo Big Hare since 2012. They have performed at art spaces, clubs and concert venues including Worm, Roodkapje, 1646, Arti, Sexyland World, Ekko, Extrapool and Mudac. Last year their third album Sun House appeard on Blowpipe Records. It is a collection of hymns for a post fossil solar cult, in the genre of Solarcore. They hope to manifest a hedonistic future on solar power, wind power and will power.

    Jonathan Ho is a Malaysian-Dutch clothing and textile designer based in Amsterdam. Working across fashion, costume and textiles, his practice fuses Eastern and Western aesthetics shaped by his cross-cultural background. Drawing from theatre, subcultures, historical dress, and contemporary performance, he creates garments that explore identity and cultural hybridity.

  28. Help Today Sure Would Be A True Blessing;

    #Disability #Poverty #Aging #Health
    🚨 URGENT HELP NEEDED TODAY 🚨

    I am a 48-year-old disabled man living in poverty, and I am struggling to survive.

    Every day is a battle against constant pain, sleepless nights, hunger, declining health, worsening vision, vertigo, mobility issues, cognitive decline, and the harsh reality that my disability income does not come close to covering the cost of living.

    I face impossible choices every day:

    Food or hygiene.
    Medication or necessities.
    Survival today or survival tomorrow.

    I have no safety net. No financial cushion. No family support. No meaningful support system.

    I am asking for help because I genuinely do not know how much longer I can continue carrying this burden alone.

    My Reality

    I live solely on SSDI.

    I have no health insurance.

    I do not drive.

    I live in a rural area with no public transportation, meaning everything I need must be delivered or depend on finding someone willing and able to help.

    My housing situation is unstable. Part of my rent is paid through helping maintain the property where I live, but my disabilities and declining health are making even those responsibilities increasingly difficult.

    I am aging in poverty, and every year brings new physical limitations, more pain, and greater uncertainty.

    I am not getting better.

    I am getting worse.

    My Health Is Declining

    My days are consumed by:

    Chronic pain
    Exhaustion
    High blood pressure fluctuations
    Vertigo and dizziness
    Poor mobility
    Knee, hip, ankle, and joint pain
    Numbness and weakness in my hands
    Cognitive and executive functioning decline
    Vision problems and light sensitivity
    Dental issues
    Anxiety, PTSD, and Bipolar Disorder

    Some days my vision becomes a fuzzy blur. Bright light hurts. Low light makes basic tasks difficult.

    If I sit too long, my joints lock up.

    If I stand too long, my legs burn and stiffen.

    If I lie down, pain spreads throughout my body.

    Simple daily activities that most people take for granted are becoming harder and harder to accomplish.

    Why I Am Reaching Out

    I am exhausted.

    Physically.

    Mentally.

    Emotionally.

    Spiritually.

    I have spent years contacting organizations, charities, government agencies, advocacy programs, nonprofits, and anyone I could think of for help.

    Most of the time I receive lists of resources, referrals, phone numbers, websites, and suggestions.

    What I do not receive are results.

    I desperately need someone willing to understand my actual circumstances and help create real, concrete solutions.

    I do not need more lists.

    I need advocacy.

    I need a social worker or case manager who can help navigate housing, healthcare, benefits, food security, transportation, and long-term stability.

    I know resources exist.

    I simply cannot seem to access them on my own.

    A Recent Example

    A few months ago, I developed a serious dental problem.

    The pain became so severe that my landlord had to take me to the emergency room simply to obtain antibiotics.

    After extensive effort and repeated requests, I was able to receive an examination and X-rays, only to be referred elsewhere for additional care I could not afford and could not reliably travel to.

    Multiple emails and follow-ups produced little more than apologies and delays.

    This experience reflects a much larger problem:

    Many disabled people are given information about help.

    Far fewer are actually able to obtain that help.

    What I Need Most
    Immediate Needs
    Food and groceries
    Hygiene supplies
    Clothing
    Medical and dental care
    Transportation assistance
    Household necessities
    Relief from immediate financial crisis
    Long-Term Needs
    Stable, permanent housing
    Consistent food security
    Reliable healthcare access
    Advocacy and case management
    A sustainable future with dignity and security

    My greatest need is stability.

    I need a forever home where I can live safely for the rest of my life without constantly fearing homelessness, displacement, or crisis.

    This Is About Dignity

    This is not a request for luxury.

    It is a plea for dignity.

    Poverty is expensive.

    Disability is exhausting.

    Hunger is cruel.

    Isolation is crushing.

    I am trying to survive while my body and mind continue to deteriorate.

    Despite everything, I continue to fight every day.

    I continue to hope.

    I continue to ask for help.

    Financial Needs
    Today's Goal

    $8,455

    Annual Survival Need

    $27,255

    Monthly Survival Need

    $1,500

    Immediate Stabilization Goal

    $25,000

    Long-Term Housing and Security Goal

    $5,000,000

    A stable, accessible, permanent property would not only give me safety and security, but potentially allow me to spend the remainder of my life helping others who struggle as I have.

    Final Words

    I am in pain.

    I am scared of what tomorrow may bring.

    But I am still here, still fighting, and still hoping someone will hear me.

–sn–

  30. Those Who Are Loved, by Victoria Hislop: #BookReview.

    Set in Greece during a period beginning in the 1930s, this novel looks at the political, social, and military history of this popular holiday destination through the eyes of an extraordinary Greek woman called Themis.

    We begin shortly after her birth and follow her through life as she learns about family, love, politics, and the brutality of fanatics on both sides of the political divide.

    I started to read this book whilst holidaying in Crete. It was one of a number of books left by guests at the hotel in which I stayed. I’d finished the three books I’d taken to read and left those there. It felt like a fair swap for me to bring this one home with me: at 480 pages, it was a long read!

    I’d read ‘The Island’ by Victoria Hislop some years ago. A book set on Crete, dealing with the history of the Leper Colony established on the small island of Spinalonga, just off the northeast coast of Mirabello Bay in the east of Crete. That book was well written, persuading me the one I’d acquired would be worth reading.

    It was!

    This is not an easy or comfortable read. It looks at the conflict between the Greek Communists and their Fascistic right-wing opponents and at the military juntas who took over the country for a while. None of these rulers comes out with credit. The author’s research has informed her of the excesses, the violence, the prejudices, the extremes posed by all these rulers on a land that was born into and invented democracy and was then almost destroyed by its lack.

    Themis is initially an innocent, naïve and bullied by her older sister and wishing to be friends with both her right-wing and her left-wing brothers. The youngest child in the family, and a girl, she is rarely taken seriously in her early years, other than by the grandmother who takes care of the family when the mother is institutionalised and the sailor father is mostly absent.

    I won’t tell you the rest of the story. But Themis illustrates the very real difficulties faced by anyone who is honest and caring when they live under those different forms of dictatorship. Her life is rarely easy and, at times, her subjugation to terror and cruelty is difficult to bear for the reader. But her courage and determination to do what is right forces the reader to continue her story through to the very end, which is, I’m pleased to record, a positive one.

    You will find so much love here, so much fear, so much bullying by so-called leaders, so much cruelty caused by a mixture of ignorance, intolerance, and simple fear of reprisals.

    I stopped reading it before bedtime, as much of the story could lead to nightmares. But I’m very pleased I read the book. I’ve learned a good deal about the role of superstition, tradition, ignorance, and the abuse of power on a people who simply want to live normal lives of love and family. And I now feel I understand much about the history of Greece during the period covered by the narrative.

    It’s a very well written account, full of insight, understanding and compassion from a writer who manages to occupy the minds and hearts of all her various protagonists and antagonists. If you get the chance, read it. You will leave the book all the better able to understand much about Greece and its extraordinary people.
