Look, I don't want to tell other people how to do the fediverse, but here's a tip some of you may find useful: you really don't need to boost every single post in a long thread. If you do, then anyone who doesn't care about the thread is going to be really annoyed, and they may decide to hide all your boosts or unfollow you completely. Be considerate.
Similarly, if you're posting a long thread it's good #fediquette to make posts after the first "quiet" visibility.

There's a solution to get beyond the invisible walls. Imperfect but here we go:
Type this into the search box (without spaces)
@ tag-$tagname @ relay.fedi.buzz
E.g. using dnd as the tag name.
@tag-dndWorks fine
But it doesn't work for:
@tag-a5eLike gup.pe groups this is a discovery tool. It grabs info from "out of network" I.e. servers that no one is following.

@pkreissel made an algorithm for mastodon to free us from the tyranny of reverse chronological order and it's totally awesome.
IMHO a customizable algorithm is the only thing mastodon needs to really take things to the next level.

How long does account migration take to propagate across the Fediverse?
How long does the domain the account was migrated from need to remain active to prevent annoying other servers?
Hypothetically, if 1.domain.tld was running fedi server A and 2.domain.tld was running fedi server A, could 1.domain.tld be taken offline 30 days or so after all (one) users had migrated over? What if someone then set up fedi server B on 1.domain.tld 30 days or so after that? Would that still make the server log gods angry about the changed keys and different locations of resources?

For anyone new here (probably on Mastodon) who's still working out how the fediverse works, @[email protected] is a PeerTube account. But you can follow it the same way you follow any account here, and each video posted to the channel will turn up as a post in your home feed.
Depending on your app, and your settings, it might appear as a title and a link, or as a page preview with an image and a link. Or, as an embedded video you can watch right there in your app!

Good experience on the #fediverse. For anyone nervous about running their own personal instance, I have been running mine for about a month. I follow a few people that are interesting (41) and am followed by a few as well (11) so I'm in a fairly tiny corner of the 'verse.
I posted a bit of an obscure question (with relevant hashtags) and within a few hours, had a couple of great answers in response (and not from any of my followers).
Engagement is very possible no matter how small an instance you have because of the default loveliness of people out there:
- Boost interesting posts and questions. If you don't have anything to say, maybe one of your followers or someone on you instance does
- Use hashtags as much as you can. They boost visibility of your posts to like-minded people
- Chat frequently. Other social media platforms have forgotten about the social part. If your in a crowd, you won't interact with anyone unless you... chat (crazy, right?)
- Don't be afraid of muting or blocking. Your instance is "your house" so invite only who you want in

Almost every kind of view you can create in your Mastodon app is available as an RSS feed. RSS? A free information sharing protocol that talks well to other tech.
That means I can create a hashtag as a search filter for my own posts to feed to LinkedIn. Why? Because I want to selectively share only things relevant to both platforms.

hey anyone following my account here! I'm sure I am wayy down in people's feeds bc who even am I, but I will need to move my acct soon as my server is shutting down. Looking for new server suggestions -
I am based in eastern Massachusetts and looking for transit/ environmental/ neighborhood news if possible. The current server is based in Europe and it was a great jam while it lasted.
So far - as other m'don newbs have complained - the servers are overly specific to *one topic* and it's been tough to connect to a bunch of topics - EVEN WITH HASHTAGS, because the hashtags dont always show up.
