Okay, a bit miffed now.

Was going through the list of accounts that I follow to see if there were any inactive ones or any that I don't wish to follow anymore & I was finding that when I went to several profiles (on different servers) that most of them displayed as if I was not following them.
The button that should say Unfollow showed up as the Follow button.
On a couple I clicked the Follow button to see what would happen & it brought up a dialogue box asking me to sign in, offering a field to enter my full handle in. This makes no sense as I'm already logged in on my instance & I doubt me logging in to their instance would work as I do not have an account there.

Could someone explain what that's about as it's a little disturbing to a non-tech head?

This image appears to be in violation of instance rules.

That the aparently AI image is in a link might not exempt the Post as displayed from having to stay inside the boundaries of instance rules.

Pour ma part, j'en utilise trois sur mon smartphone : l'app "officielle" Mastodon pour mon compte perso, l'app @moshidon pour gérer les autres comptes que j'administre (ça m'évite de me tromper de compte quand je poste), et l'app @trunksapp parce que l'ergonomie est très sympa et assez originale.

Ich nutze sehr gerne für Mastodon die Browser-Deck-Ansicht.
Da vermisse ich jedoch die Möglichkeit mir Beiträge übersetzen zu lassen.
Schade ist auch, dass ich in den Einstellungen keine Möglichkeit finde, dass ich mir die Ansicht individuell einstellen kann - in Schriftgröße und Farben.

Hat da jemand eine Lösung oder vielleicht sogar eine Alternative?

I'm finding Mastodon a bit confusing. So far, I have managed to get my feed filled up with pictures of cats, which, of course, must be considered a good start. Now, if I can only figure out how to navigate the servers and multiple accounts, this might be a nice place to be.

Can any Mastodon specialist please explain to me why in the last week I have seen notifications for several boosts of toots that I have written one year go when I joined, for which it is indicated that they themselves date from one year ago ("1y") ?

At first, I actually approved loads of Romance languages (even ones I don't know like Aragonese & Galician) just for the hell of it 😆 Even latine, lingua franca nova & Interlingua (my favourite "if only everyone would just use this!" auxlang).

But as my timeline got more & more full, I trimmed them back so I might stand a chance at getting through it.

Yes, I've set the "Filter" languages, not just "Interface" language.
(Preferences > Other > Public Timelines > Filter languages)

And many of the posts in undesired languages (in my case, 95% German) have been quite long, hundreds of characters.

I wonder if following a hashtag trumps/bypasses the language filter.

I'd like to be able to follow hashtags without seeing posts in languages I don't understand that also use those hashtags.

#Mastodon language settings don't help with that & after having a timeline 30-35% in languages I don't know, I've ended up muting hundreds (maybe thousands now) of accounts.

In fact, I've started looking at my alt account's timeline (exquisite.social) first because Mastodon's lack of hashtag migration means my timeline there is only people I follow, & only afterwards going to my original account (ohai.social) that includes followed hashtag posts.

I just started my first poll, I can see the percentages, but I don't see the number of people that have voted. I have searched the web, but only found complicated python programming API methods. Is there not an easy way to get the numbers of voters ? Or does this only appear at the end of the poll ?

Just a quick shout out to @tapbots for making the @ivory app for #Mastodon. It's every bit as good as Tweetbot was back when Twitter was Twitter and the world was a bit nicer.

Anyway, cheers to Tapbots for making the #Fediverse a nice place to be and engage with. I highly recommend this app for people new to Mastodon.
