  1. Does anybody have an idea where I can get an easy to build DIY #mATX PC case kit made of #wood (plus acrylic, maybe)?

Once there was this #Cyberwood kit but it seems to be discontinued and out of stock everywhere :(

  2. #fedimind #fedisearch #climate #meme #mutualaid #posterdesign

For our newly established "Cafe Zapałka" (Cafe Matchstick) - a social center focused on climate justice - I found a perfect match for the main theme poster.

Unfortunately, I only have a small version, and.my search for original source and author yelds zero returns.

    Please, help us:
    - find the source or the author
    - find the picture in hi-res
    - or redraw/reinterpret it in hi-res, so we can use it.

This is strictly non-commercial request and all credits will be given.

  3. i'm hoping to find a wheeled cart i can put my computer tower on with an upper surface i can put, for instance, a monitor on. i've included an example of what i am seeking, because i can find things that fit the bill, but i don't know what brands are any good.

does anyone have one they'd recommend?

i don't need built-in outlets, though i would not be opposed. i just want something well-built and sturdy that will suit my needs, which are:

    • fits your average ATX tower
    • has an upper surface above the tower
    • has casters

  4. Probably well know to many but I thought I'd just link to this (again)
Fedi-Search is a great tool to search the fediverse!

  5. Hey #Fedisearch, gibt es hier jemanden der gelegentlich #HotHoney herstellt und mir mal 1-2 Gläser abgeben/verkaufen könnte?

  6. Okay, but we can also #federate this now with the #fediverse. Like, #ActivityPub can handle search queries just fine.

So, just running on microcomputers, everyone can put on their own index whatever they want.

A person can _easily_ index 50,000 pages on a rapsberry pi.

A #FediSearch can broadcast any query to known peers. Each peer returns top-k results. The originating node can then aggregate and rank.

So @alice queries their FediSearch, it searches its own index and queries subscribed peers, those peers do the same thing. Nodes can choose who they trust, cache, etc.

The number of indexes pages will be something along the lines of `pages_per_nod * log(number_nodes)`. So a thousand nodes may only cover a million pages, but if the trust network is good, those are probably the most important million pages.

Also, I would venture that you'd have some nodes specializing in having a lot of pages: tens of millions, others just for stuff they like, others specifically for non-commercial interests. Selecting who you federate your search with really affects the ranking.

  7. Put this in search field:

    has:video from:[email protected]

Hey fediverse, you got better ways to search for videos on the fediverse?(FediVideo)

I think this may even beat Sepia Search! (to some degree)

  9. As part of the explore/search dropdown, it might be a nice feature to have "from:me" and "in-library" as one of the top dropdown options, or default.

Or, a pop-up/link to a page like this:

    fedi.tips/how-do-i-search-for-

Or, perhaps I'll try to be less senile.

  10. to be clear, i oppose opt-out for stuff like fedi search tools.

    but i do have a genuine question/thoughts:

    - how useful can a search tool be unless enough people opt in?
    - i feel like there is like,
some degree of "it's publicly posted, anyone can see it" that makes me slightly confused at the level of hostility to search tools in general. obviously for most search engines no-indexing is a thing so i kinda get that but hm. i dunno i just wonder about this kind of thing. like people can still open your profile and read through your public posts so i'm just kinda torn?

    (boosts/thoughts/info very welcome :3)

  11. We should start a hashtag #fedisearch where you type your keywords in a post with the tag and people respond with whatever random bookmarks or facts they have about the topic.

  13. @rigo There was never a mention of it being a financial problem though. If the draconian data purging was introduced to spare resources on the DB, I'd understand and we could help tune it. If LQDN asked for money to afford a beefier DB, I'd be happy to contribute.

As for tootfinder, do you think someone could offer to sponsor/host it without being dragged into all the surrounding #FediSearch drama / #FediMeta?

  14. Any good alternatives* to #OneNote for handwritten notes? A recent update must have broken something, and now I'm frustrated enough to consider switching to something else :neofox_yeet:

    * for Windows or Linux and Android

  15. There's a solution to get beyond the invisible walls. Imperfect but here we go:

Type this into the search box (without spaces)

    @ tag-$tagname @ relay.fedi.buzz

E.g. using dnd as the tag name.
    @tag-dnd

    Works fine

    But it doesn't work for:
    @tag-a5e

Like gup.pe groups this is a discovery tool. It grabs info from "out of network" I.e. servers that no one is following.

  16. Mastodon knows @stepan as an opensource enthusiast and #fedisearch creator but he's also this super cool guy who's down for any adventure & smiles through any inconvenience & always makes me happy & is my favorite person in general. 😊❤️ Enjoy this view of him on #skybridge721.

  17. Re: #Mastodon #Fulltext #Fedisearch

It looks like most people want search now.

    Poll: social.tchncs.de/@krohne/11079

When I really started using Mastodon in Nov 2022 I was a bit mystified by the hostile attitudes towards the idea of #Search. I've since come around to appreciate the importance of informed consent.

Given that, it seems the next step should be to build per-toot, per-user, and per-instance consent into the software: github.com/mastodon/mastodon/p (thanks @vyr!)

    Can we get this?

  18. Reading more on search with #Mastodon. After reading about #Searchtodon and @anildash lastest piece I then read this one from @ben on his $0.02 and efforts to build a bot to detect scrapers.

I'm still forming my opinions (maybe more on that later) but Ben covers a few corners of the discussion I haven't seen brought up yet.
