  12. Scrolling through my feed this morning and seeing everyone gush about how great #SotB run by @webstandards was this year. It fills me with joy. I'm so happy that a conference like this exists that brings people together. Keep your eyes out for the announcement for the 2027 edition and buy those tickets early.

Before @dletorey even asks I'll be back as a sponsor next year and will continue to work on getting my company to pony up some 💰. I WILL be back to attending in person next year!

  13. Nearly a year later, I find myself going back to this post and adding its settings to get a sane #scrollbar on #Firefox.

It's annoying that despite Mozilla dropping Motif for GTK+ in their browser back when they open-sourced their browser, they still didn't consider maybe using the native UI widgets that GTK+ provided?

My chosen GTK+ emulates a nice retro OS/2 theme, which is actually rather quite usable on a #tablet #touchscreen. It's not the classical Motif UI of historical Unix, but it's usable. Another good choice would be the classic MacOS UI… or maybe 90s era Windows. Make those a little beefier on a touchscreen and you'd have quite a usable UI for both desktops and touchscreens.

But… Firefox and Chromium UI devs know better apparently.

  21. → The EU moves to kill infinite #scrolling
    politico.eu/article/tiktok-met

“The fact that the #Commission said TikTok should change the basic design of its service is "ground-breaking for the #business model fueled by #surveillance and #advertising," said Katarzyna Szymielewicz, president of the @panoptykon Foundation, a Polish civil society group.”

“That doesn’t bode well for other platforms, particularly Meta’s #Facebook and #Instagram.”
