#Remorse Is Holding You Back
https://www.buddhistdoor.net/features/remorse-is-holding-you-back/#Regret often stems from a desire to escape future punishment or #negative consequences. It is rooted in #selfpreservation; an instinctive reaction to the fear of #repercussions that might arise from our #past actions. Remorse centers on acknowledging the hurtful impact that our actions may have had on others. It is a more profound, empathetic response that arises from a place of compassion and understanding.

I just rediscovered two old posts/threads of mine, that explain pretty well, why I want to go into pedagogy now (I didn't know it back then - too busy working on my depression and hating school):
Content warning: Childhood trauma

I want to protect children.
I want to provide them a save environment to thrive and talk about their troubles.
In a perfect school system kids would learn mental hygiene and get therapy before they learn integrals and the uncritical history of wars and power abuse. That would prevent so much domestic abuse, because it would be caught early.
And teaching kids emotional and social competence before teaching them applied capitalism will prevent abuse, division, exploitation and hate in the future.I want to teach children to be happier than me, less abusive than my stepdad, more empathetic than my mom and more protective of future generations than my teachers were.
That's why I'm studying animal assisted pedagogy and will start studying social pedagogy, trauma pedagogy and environmental pedagogy this fall.

CW: Amanda Knox and recovery from trauma
A long-form interview of Amanda Kox by Simon Hattenstone.
I never followed the case much in any detail, and I must admit that I probably thought her guilty at the time. Amanda Knox as a very young woman got falsely convicted of murder, much later that judgement was overturmed, then she got re-convicted, and only in one further twist was she finally cleared. Due to the circumstances of the murder, her person became a canvas for all sorts of projections, telling us much about prevalent fantasies and nothing about her. She is now 37, a justice campaigner, and she writes books and makes programmes on her experiences.
Simon Hattenstone has known her for much of this time. This is a thoughtful and empathetic piece about injustice, prison, the painful struggle to reclaim oneself, the slow and ever incomplete recovery from trauma. Worth reading.

CW: Musk's use of a neo-nazi talking point re: empathy
There's been so much evidence over the course of at least a few years that Elon Musk has gone down a giant neo-nazi rabbit hole, but nothing -- not boosting antisemitic conspiracy theorists, not the Nazi salutes, not his embrace of the "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory -- really leaped out at me as much as when he recently started talking about Western civilization having "too much empathy".
The idea that "white people are highly empathetic and others regularly take advantage of that" is, in my experience, not something you see every day when you monitor white nationalist/neo-nazi spaces, but if you stick with it for a while, it does come out fairly regularly.
The point here is that, while it's not news to say that fascists are generally convinced (or at least pretend to be) of their own victimhood and use that to justify what you could call "hitting back in advance", the "too much empathy" thing is sort of a niche way of framing that. In my experience, you would have to be around pretty consistently over a fairly extensive period of time for that one to really sink in. So when someone spits that line out, it kind of instantly sounds to me like they've been hanging out with actual nazis. And I know it's also not news to point out that Elon Musk has overt fascists and even neo-nazis in his orbit, I do nonetheless think this level of closeness is worth documenting.
And if you want evidence of that particular rhetorical bit, all of the quotes below come to you directly from overtly Nazi/white nationalist social media accounts. They span a couple of years, and while it's not hard to find posts that use the words "white" and "empathetic", they're not all *that* common (whereas if you search for "great replacement" you'll get piles of hits just from today).
You could call this circumstantial evidence, and you'd be right. But a) I'm not actually trying to convict anyone, and b) in conjunction with every other indication that Musk believes in actual Nazi shit, I think this is a pretty strong indicator. It's *possible* that he just magically came up with this particular Nazi talking point all on his own, but the odds aren't that great.
I don't really want to post screenshots, and I sure as hell don't want to post links, so these are all copied and pasted. It's generally best not to share Nazi propaganda, but I think this is a point worth making, and I think there's enough context here to justify doing it. All spelling and grammatical errors are theirs.
- "Non-Whites all gas light you and blame you for their own actions and behavior! Because your too empathetic and gullible enough to listen to their lies, bellyaching and moaning of how their so put upon and its all our fault for their predicaments? It is our faults for being so naïve and short sighted to listen them and for simply having any discourse with them at all now we give them everything we have and they want more and more yet they want to kill us at the same time!!"
- [In reference to the "white genocide" conspiracy theory:] "These genocide merchants are selling the idea that there will be a utopia once we're gone. The saddest, most surreal part of it all is that White people are currently altruistic and empathetic enough to go along with it."
- "The left thinks only Whites enjoy nature. Maybe they're correct, admitting this. Most Whites just assume every race loves nature as much as they do. That sort of empathetic projection is common with Whites. We get exploited for it often."
- "White people are uniquely empathetic/low-in-group preference that way, so this deracinating Jewish propaganda works especially well on them."
You get the picture. Make of it what you will.

I've been trying to finish the movie #electricstate for three days, just to see if @simonstalenhag 's mind-blowing art is reflected anywhere, and it's been a struggle. How is it possible to have such a rich and mind-blowing source material, 320 millions, and end up making a weak techno-toystory? How many times are they going to tell us the story of the empathetic robot?

#BookBans jouez avec les #bibliothécaires
https://littlefreelibrary.org/about/book-bans
Expanding access to #books is at the heart of our mission. The rise of book bans in America goes against our organization’s core values — especially when the bans overwhelmingly target #BIPOC and #LGBTQ+ authors. When these voices and perspectives are erased through book bans, our world becomes a less informed, less empathetic, and less inclusive place. #trump -
The term #PoliticalCorrectness is an unfortunate misnomer. It has no political purpose; its significance, its raison d'état is comity towards fellow men. So, that all-too-frequent PC v nPC debate is really about whether one is genuinely empathetic or merely pathetic.

Everyone feeling indignant when people park and unfairly occupy a dedicated #disable #parking place.
Then, not everyone cares when organisations build #inaccessible website/apps that people with special needs or #disabilities cannot use (eg, applying for a job online, checking bank movements, reading news, etc...).
Let's not build #digital #barriers 💪
Let's be more #empathetic ❤️ -
CW: *The Colors Within* / *Kimi no Iro* spoilers
Apologies for the stream of consciousness approach here; but here goes!
Pacing was brisk; few spots where it felt like too fast but didn't completely outrun me, good overall
The production itself felt really good at least on first glance, loved the lighting and shadows used in scenes, the subtle expressions were great; someone remind me to look at Sakugabooru later... :TamakoPray:Character development of our trio was great, although not perfect - mainly that Kimi's (implied) crush for Rui didn't get explored as much as I would've thought at the start, and Rui didn't feel as fleshed out as Kimi and Totsuko; but I still love all three (plus Rui kinda me AND kinda cute ngl)
Sister Hiyoshiko's backstory came out of left field, but I thought her involvement was genuinely pretty good; the Catholic school element (including through Sister Hiyoshiko) felt.....MUCH more welcoming and empathetic. Legit kinda wished my own school was like that 🥲
I liked the soundtrack, both the incidental and the diegetic music; you can tell Kensuke Ushio is really getting into his element, with Rui getting good second-hand instruments including the Theremin and utilizing electronic elements.
Coincidentally, I watched the dub; it's pretty good, were a few times where Totsuko's dubbing felt a little awkward (maybe ADR?), but other than that everyone felt really good, I felt like all the VAs conveyed the characters nicely - works well enough if you (or your friends) prefer dubs over subs.

Concubine Android: These pleasure focused androids were among the most common varieties ever made.
Concubine androids survived into the new era in greater numbers than expected because so many passed as humans, or else belonged to a human who concealed and protected the unit out of either financial considerations, lust, or emotional reasons. In short, concubine androids of old were nearly always the property of an individual, not a government or corporation, and so hidden away and cared for, often because their owner had developed a relationship with the sexy, always attentive and empathetic machine.
