I'd heard some pretty poor reviews of The Electric State but decided to give it a watch this evening and thought it was reasonably good. Nothing surprising, nothing innovative, but an enjoyable couple of hours with nice imagery, okay set pieces, and emotional elements enough to make my wife sob a little, although that's an admittedly low bar.

Die beste Filmpromo seit langem die ich auf Youtube gesehen habe. Wollen wir hoffen das der Film ähnlich gut wird. Nach den ganzen Enttäuschungen der letzten Zeit mit #Schneewitchen #Minecraft #Section31 #Electricstate und dutzender anderer Schrottfilme hätten wir echt mal wieder gute Unterhaltung verdient. Hoffentlich kann #TheAmateur die liefern.

I created this #3D scene in my spare time three years ago, with open source software #blender and plug-ins for less than $100, inspired by a drawing from the amazing graphic novel The Electric State by Simon Stålenhag.
It really hurt to watch what #netflix did with this incredible source material and a production budget of $300 million(!). So much wasted potential.

Watched #ElectricState on Netflix. Not a fan.
It would been a decent book to read before the dot com days where the period is set. But in the ChatGPT era, it’s just not there. Same feel as the dragon fly copters in Dune.
Also, too many close up shots. Like way too close for way too much time. It was actually tiring and had to watch it over 2 days. -

Reviews aside, I enjoyed #TheElectricState. Nice to embed oneself in a unique world for a couple of hours with a plot that was predictable but with many enjoyable moments and beautiful views.
Besides, ever since Star Wars, I’ve been a sucker for old, rusty robots. I have a particularly soft spot for the Gonk robot on the Jawa Sandcrawler in New Hope!

I've just watched Electric State (2025.) Oh dear!
$320 million, a decent cast & THIS is what they come up with?
Taking elements of Ready Player One, Artificial Intelligence, Five Nights at Freddie's & another robot-based film that my brain is too numb from watching this to think of the title right now
This is paint-by-numbers blandness. Big budget slop that I should have known better about watching
I now have a tentative 1st place worst movie 2025

I was looking forward to Electric State on Netflix, but it has been a disappointment. Messy story, tonally all over the place (doesn't seem to know what it wants to be), and there's little real characterisation depth, so there's no emotional investment in them. Pity.

I just watched Electric State on Netflix and personally think it’s a fun, sci-fi, action romp. I will probably watch it again just for all the awesome robots! Of course the “deep” home movie critics are tearing it to shreds because it’s not a masterpiece. Why does it need to be? It’s the modern equivalent of a “straight to vhs” movie. If kids in the 80’s and 90’s had access to this it would have blown them away! Are modern movies goers just spoiled?

I stayed out of the #ElectricState #ttrpg Kickstarter because it felt like Tales From the Loop, but made to fit a conventional sci-fi adventure story.
Tales From the Loop is whimsical, warm and very human - it was well represented by the criminally underappreciated TV show. Meanwhile, Electric State movie trailer looks like generic adventure slop.
It is further hindered by having The Worst Chris and Millie Bobbie Brown, best known for being famous without starring in anything worth watching.

I'm a bit late to the party, but uhh, yeah. Electric State movie from Netflix.
It's only the trailer so far, but it's clearly depicting a world that's completely different from the Electric State world of Simon Stålenhag's art or the Free League TRPG.
People will undoubtedly discover the rule via the movie, and those people will have all sorts of wrong expectations for the rule.
