I also watched a few episodes of DS9 with a friend in celebration, and came upon this brilliant episode with angry critique towards Section 31, and some amazing romulans (❤️) I’m so happy they used to clearly state how bad and unethical of an idea a secret service is inside an open democratic society, and just straight up yell at those defending it or allowing it to exist. (Spoilers for season 7!)

The official region-free Star Trek Section 31 trailer and poster are out. This trailer looking much more polished (unsurprisingly) than the teaser released previously.
Georgiou’s space station looks marvellous! Not at all in the classic Starfleet mushroom style. Original, not just another ring or cylinder. Like the DS9 design, something to give station model lovers something to dream of adding to their collections for the next few decades.
@virtualbri assuming you and your team were on this project too. It looks incredible! Sets a high bar for Star Trek streaming original movies.

So glad they never released the “Very Short Treks” on home video, so my #StarTrek completionist urges don’t have to be at war with the “but they were absolute crap” reality.

So, nun habe ich mir #startrek #section31 angesehen. Ehrlich - ich wollte nix sagen aber das muss raus:
Ich hatte wirklich keine großen Erwartungen, aber dieses Werk hat sie noch mal deutlich unterboten. Wow - langweilig. Mission-Impossible im Weltall, Priorität auf „hey wir sind so cool“ mit viel zu langen „ach wie witzige Sprüche“-Austausch a la Guardians of the Galaxy oder so. Aber sonst? Wackeln, prügeln, Gewalt und etwa 30 Sekunden Story um alte Freundschaften und späte Erkenntnisse. Puh -
If there's a #Section31 sequel, they should see if Jaqueline Kim is interested in reprising her role as Demora Sulu.
At 55, she'd be a good age to portray a now Captain Sulu aboard Enterprise B. Novels have that ship go missing after a report of an unknown contagion, perhaps they could tell that story on screen?
And if Legacy happens, an elderly Captain Sulu could limp her ship back home and join with Enterprise G to fully resolve the situation that Section 31 and Enterprise B could only delay. -

Die beste Filmpromo seit langem die ich auf Youtube gesehen habe. Wollen wir hoffen das der Film ähnlich gut wird. Nach den ganzen Enttäuschungen der letzten Zeit mit #Schneewitchen #Minecraft #Section31 #Electricstate und dutzender anderer Schrottfilme hätten wir echt mal wieder gute Unterhaltung verdient. Example: the #StarTrek #Section31 movie (yes, I know, but I’m a sucker) is available for pre-order. But if I go to startrek.com, the Section 31 page doesn’t mention the home media release, and the “shop” in the menu is just stuff, not home media.

What the heck is that? I watched Section 31 today and still don't know whether to laugh or cry. What happened to the Star Trek feeling? This is pure trash. I think it's bringing tears to @georgetakei 's eyes. I'm just still in shock. Really unbelievably bad from my point of view, not just from a Trekie point of view.

TV movie review: Star Trek: Section 31
★★☆☆☆As a Star Trek pilot it's merely OK. As a stand-alone movie, it's a mess. It could have been retooled as a good heist film, but wasn't.
But I was going to watch this anyway, because Michelle Yeoh is always compelling. As awful a person as Mirror Georgiou is, the character is fascinating to watch - particularly when she's navigating the different rules of the Prime universe.
Plus some thoughts on the premise of the organization itself, Captain Sisko's actions in "In the Pale Moonlight," and Discovery's portrayal of the Federation/Klingon war.

Just finished #StarTrek #Section31 and while not exactly high brow it was OK afternoon entertainment. I’ve seen many worse things and some of the comments about it really are a bit overblown. I mean at least it wasn’t a musical and it was better than most of Discovery and shorter than Picard S2.

So, amidst everything else flooding the zone, I missed this report earlier in the week.
The Star Trek Section 31 movie broke the Nielsen top ten streaming movie chart for the week of January 20-26, 2025.
Despite the brigading, despite the dire predictions and fan complaints, it performed well enough in its first week - especially keeping in mind that Paramount+ has a smaller subscription base.
As my partner and I seem to be among the few willing to say we found it a lot of fun, even better on rewatch, I’m glad to see that it has other unvoiced supporters.

I'm watching "Section 31" and I hate it. I'm normally pretty relaxed about films, but this one is so over the top on the melodrama. The script sounds like a teen fanfic.
My spouse is laughing hysterically at how bad it is.

L'idea poteva essere interessante, tuttavia alla fine si è trasformato in una sorta di #suicidesquad ma con un cast assolutamente non all'altezza e personaggi di cartapesta scritti in maniera mediocre, su tutti la sopravvalutatissima #MichelleYeoh che a me non era piaciuta neanche in #Discovery (e infatti ero felice fosse stata silurata)
Rimane un tentativo cmq interessante di svecchiare la franchise, speriamo meglio la prossima volta (se ci sarà)

@renice #Discovery is red team. #DS9 is the beleaguered #neteng that keeps getting told there's no funding for a dedicated blue team. Except sometimes #section31 comes along claiming to be blue team, but they're really a bunch of self-motivated charcoal-hat cowboy coders on shadow projects. You're pretty sure most of them couldn't pass the company code of conduct policy tests. There's a persistent rumor they're going to get formally recognized as a skill team any quarter now.
#Voyager is that startup that never quite lands their IPO, and keeps having to seek new sources of VC funding along the way. They keep picking up new people, and the old hands can barely remember what it was like before seven years of 24/7 crunch time.
#Prodigy is that code #bootcamp that gets away with not charging for their services because the parent company accidentally bundled them with a datacenter's electric bill, where they're just noise in the budget.
#Picard is the local #Solaris users group that's all gung-ho about #Illumos. They've got some good points and originated some iconic features, but they're principally about nostalgia these days.
#tos is the retrocomputing club. Spectrum Sinclairs and Altairs line the walls, but are mostly for show. Someone converted an old IBM POWER workstation into a #Hackintosh so they could show Kid Pix to the kids. Everybody else spends their time showing off their DOS savegame files on the club's file server. One guy is playing DOOM in the corner with the music coming from an external Roland MIDI keyboard. Another guy figured out how to launch old DOS door games under containerized #dosemu instances via inetd, but people stopped talking to him once he solved the sandbox escape problem by having systemd launch the containers on-demand in a deprivileged chroot.
#StrangeNewWorlds is the club founded by that guy from the retrocomputing club that got DOS door games running via systemd; Now he's porting his door game collection to run in #webassembly, and has managed to reach a new generation of people respinning the classics.
#Enterprise is the #beos users group. Really a subgroup of the local retrocomputing club. They hate it, because people keep confusing their interests with Mac OS Classic and Linux.
