Last night, I caught a sleeper train from Vienna to Hamburg. This time, I travelled in one of ÖBB NightJet’s new Mini Cabins: one-person compartments, similar in concept to a Japanese capsule hostel pod.

The #Starliner delays are so disappointing. I was so eager to see a no-weld pressure vessel in orbit and the manufacturing method of the crew #capsule was amazing and original.
It was disappointing when the #alcohol/#LOX RS-88 #thrusters w/ #hypergolic versions.
The #ServiceModule delays were even more outrageous.
And #flammable tape.
It feels like the only #innovation that happened was the pressure vessel. -

The mercat cross in Culross, on the north shore of the Firth of Forth in Fife. This is one of Scotland's best conserved and most beautiful villages and the nearest thing you'll find in the country to a 16th century time capsule. Al termine di una carriera durata oltre vent’anni, Megan McArthur lascia la NASA.
Con alle spalle due missioni spaziali che le hanno permesso di totalizzare 213 giorni nello spazio, Megan detiene anche due primati: è stata la prima donna a pilotare una capsula Dragon di SpaceX e l’ultima persona a “toccare”, seppur con il braccio robotico Canadarm dello Space Shuttle, il telescopio spaziale Hubble.
McArthur è stata il pilota della missione Crew-2 a bordo della Dragon Endeavour, che SpaceX ha lanciato per conto della NASA il 23 aprile 2021. Si è trattata della sua seconda (ed ultima) missione spaziale e della sua prima ed unica missione di lunga durata sulla Stazione Spaziale Internazionale. Nel corso di questa missione di 200 giorni, Megan è stata ingegnere del volo per Expedition 65, svolgendo una vasta quantità di esperimenti scientifici relativi alla salute, alle scienze dei materiali e alla robotica.

Megan McArthur nella sua carriera alla NASA, ha ricoperto anche diversi ruoli di responsabilità tecnica. Nel 2019, è stata nominata vice capo divisione dell’Ufficio Astronauti in supporto all’addestramento dei colleghi e allo sviluppo delle operazioni spaziali. Inoltre, a partire dal 2017 è stata anche assistente del direttore delle operazioni di volo per il programma della Stazione Spaziale Internazionale.

Katherine Megan McArthur è nata il 30 agosto 1971 ad Honolulu, Hawaii, ma è cresciuta in California dove ha frequentato la St. Francis High School di Mountain View. Nel 1993 si è laureata in ingegneria aerospaziale all’University of California di Los Angeles e nel 2002 ha ottenuto il dottorato in oceanografia dallo Scripps Institution of Oceanography dell’University of California di San Diego. Durante questi studi, McArthur ha partecipato a ricerche sulla propagazione acustica sottomarina e sull’elaborazione dei segnali digitali e ha svolto inoltre ricerche con attività subacquee.
McArthur è stata selezionata dalla NASA nel 2000 come specialista di missione e dopo i consueti due anni di addestramento è stata assegnata all’Astronaut Office Shuttle Operations Branch per lavorare su alcuni aspetti tecnici dei sistemi dello Space Shuttle presso lo Shuttle Avionics Integration Laboratory (SAIL). Di seguito è stata selezionata come astronauta di supporto a terra per l’equipaggio dell’Expedition 9 nel corso della missione di sei mesi nella stazione spaziale nel 2004. Megan McArthur è sposata con l’ex astronauta ed ex capo dell’Ufficio Astronauti della NASA Bob Behnken, dal quale ha avuto un figlio. Behnken ha volato anche a bordo della Dragon Endeavour per la missione SpaceX Demo-2 nel 2020. Proprio il seggiolino occupato da Behnken in Endeavour è stato usato poco tempo dopo anche da sua moglie Megan per la missione Crew-2 di SpaceX, che è stato anche il secondo volo della capsula.

Not Today!
Those of us who support libraries, freedom, and history may find this project as fascinating as I did: The Uncensored Library.
There are a lot of ways to preserve information now, and to send a message to the future. As I mentioned here a few years ago, you can write a letter to be delivered later with FutureMe. You could bury a time capsule and register it with the International Time Capsule Society. I even wrote a story about a woman facing down the end of humanity by preserving some of its most beautiful creations for the next intelligent race.
Reporters Without Borders took a different approach. They created a virtual library inside Minecraft. Before you laugh, it’s hard to think of a better place to store and disseminate uncensored information than the world’s best-selling video game.
Providing access to independent information to young people around the world through a medium they can playfully interact with.
Here’s to knowledge, and to our future.

I've been to Boots opticians this morning and been tested for Posterior Capsule Opacification, and yep tested positive.#PCO #cataracts
It means skin has been growing over the back of my replacement lenses and yep I need YAG laser treatment to remove it.
I'm being referred on a priority basis and hopefully will get an appointment in between 3-6 weeks. In the interim, I'm not allowed to drive :(
At least I'll get sorted out pretty quickly. Sigh.......

A small tag with an interesting location. I was shocked to see "Made in Ukraine". Something I would NOT have glanced at 20 years ago.
This suit carries the quiet marks of the 1990s & 100% polyester, built to last, wrinkle-resistant, and ready for everything. The tag tells its own journey: Made in Ukraine, part of the #global #textile shift of the late 20th century when #clothing production spread across the world. All but gone today.
Sometimes the smallest label is a little time capsule stitched into fabric. Who would have guessed that I clean out my closet to find a garment made in now war torn Ukraine.
