@ikluft Really interesting! My friend in rural Arizona up in the mountains found a small manmade pond with some sort of “liner” originally that disintegrated. They lined it with a heavy black mat for this purpose and dug a bit more debris out of it. It’s about 15’ long and narrow oval. Frogs live in it and dragonflies hang out. It’s under a tree canopy but I just don’t know if it is fed by the irrigation up there or well or if they just get more water in by garden hose or rain.
Perhaps you may know more by looking at this photo. Meanwhile I’m a rock collector and a fascinated by one large chunk of mineral deposits they pulled out and kept. Any ideas on the minerals? And, does a look at the video and “rock” give clues? There must be a way they keep it from just being a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Guard it well.
Story time.
Don't Gatekeep the Library, by me.
My family transferred me from the state #school for the #blind (I think it was actually "visually handicapped" at that particular moment) to a #Catholic school for third grade. Our first class trip to the #library, we were told we could pick any #book we wanted to #borrow for a week.
In a back corner on the bottom shelf, I found a book with #math-type #questions and #experiments to help #understand the answers. The first one was, "Why are bubbles round?" and there were #instructions to make a frame, and tie a string with a loop in it, dip it in bubble mix, and break the film in the loop. The remaining film will open the loop to a circle.
When I brought this marvel to the librarian's desk to check it out, my #teacher said that book was for eighth-graders, and suggested a book about #rocks and #minerals that had larger print.
For values of "suggest" that evaluate to "force."
I later, (as a fifth-grader, I think) relieved the library of the need to shelve this particular volume, along with the catalog cards that affirmed its existence in the collection.
Yes, that was wrong, and I don't recommend this course of action. At the time, though, it seemed fair.
The book was later lost when the Red River of the North flooded my mother's basement.

Two of Neptune’s tiny inner moons contain clay minerals that could not have formed on worlds so small and cold — suggesting they’re built from the exposed interiors of much larger moons shattered when the captured Kuiper Belt world Triton tore through Neptune’s original satellite system billions of years ago.
