  1. The tiny 400mAh in this cheap turned into a puffed up pillow. I've replaced it with a 350mAh one I salvaged from a single-use disposable device. In spite of the lower capacity, it is significantly larger than the original battery. Hope it can still fit in the available space.

Also fitted a JST connector to the speaker wires in case I need to disassemble again for a future .

It is getting more difficult to recognize what some of these single-use devices are. I nearly walked right by this one which was disguised as an opened drinks can with a plastic straw sticking out.

The 650mAh lithium battery is rechargeable via the USB-C port on the bottom but there is no way to easily refill the atomizer tank

  3. Before the current epidemic of disposable vape pens, Poundland used to sell these disposable phone chargers which had a 650mAh battery connected to a DC-DC boost converter. There was no straightforward way for owners to recharge them.

I've been distracted by e-cig battery harvesting, but finally got around to adding a TC4056A module with over-discharge protection to the few I bought back then

They are now just like USB powerbanks

  4. This is the most deformed lithium polymer battery I've found on the street that still had a significant charge (3.5V)

It used to be cylindrical but now has a 11mm x 14mm cross section

I won't bother trying to discharge the even more damaged one also found on the street today. I intend to dump both in the battery recycling bins at Asda tomorrow.

  5. Shortly before Poundworld closed down, they started selling more expensive items such as this Bluetooth keyboard.

I wonder if I can replace its puffy battery with one of the many I have now salvaged from discarded vape pens.

  6. I bought this indoor drone for £4 at a charity shop but discovered that the battery charger was missing. I'll need to jury rig a charger for its 300mAh battery in order to test whether it still works. It still had a voltage of 3.75V but the props wouldn't start and the LEDs just blinked.

One of the 3 AAA batteries in the tilt sensing remote control was also leaking. The other two batteries have expiry dates of 2014 and 2019

  7. And another 5 more batteries to add to my collection

Now approaching one year since I started collecting batteries littering the streets of England post-Lockdown

If I solder these in parallel and add a DC-DC boost converter will it be enough to power a Raspberry Pi? And for how long?

  8. I have salvaged so many lithium batteries from the streets around me that I need to make specially designed storage solutions for them

  9. I've salvaged so many unprotected Li-poly batteries from the street that I've run out of over-discharge protection PCBs. So I'm testing this rudimentary protection circuit which should shut off the TIP32a power transistor when the battery voltage drops below 3.2V = forward voltage of a white LED (2.6V) + base-emitter voltage drop (0.6V)

  10. The disposable vape pen litter problem is as bad, if not worse, in the streets around my brother's house (near Manchester) as it is in High Wycombe

This is what I was able to find just walking around between Christmas and New Years Day. I wonder how many of these 8 lithium polymer batteries are salvageable

  11. [Atomic 14] shows how to power lights with those free rechargeable Li-poly batteries you can find discarded on the street and along footpaths. Experiments with making them charge wirelesslessly did not turn out as planned.
